I have been here a couple of times and the seafood are consistently fresh. Was here with friends last Friday. We brought Vines Sauvignon Blanc and Annabella Pinot Noir. The waitress gave us a big bucket to put our wines to be cold. We started with mussels with a wine sauce. The sauce was little too salty for me. Then the cold and delicious raw oysters came out. My favorites were Kumamoto from California and Saint Simon from Nova Scotia. You can choose 18 different kinds from the menu. Then came the grilled portuguese octopus. It was so tender and yummy. Mini tacos were so cute. I liked the snapper mini taco better than the oyster. We were sitting near the kitchen so all the dishes came out very hot. We ordered Cape May fried oyster entree with french fries and grilled whole local black sea bass with sweet potato fries. The fish was little bit overcooked and was too bland for me. But sweet potato fries were an absolute delight. Overall we really enjoyed the dinner and headed out for desserts. We will be coming back soon! read more

Great seafood restaurant - you can really tell that they use simple, fresh ingredients and then just let that do the talking. No overcrowding the amazing natural tastes with over-preparation or crazy sauces. We all got different items - Bay Scallops for me, mixed grills with Swordfish, Arctic Char, etc. for others and everyone was totally satisfied and I don't think said a single word during dinner! Decided to take my girlfriend out for some fine seafood dining and we were not disappointed. Blue Point Grille was as delectable as everyone says the establishment is. The mussels marinara were cooked perfectly and the marinara accented the mussel very well. It's rare that you walk into a seafood place and you don't smell anything fishy. This place is just that. It's clean and quick. People forget that fish isn't supposed to smell fishy. You'll never smell anything fishy in this place. They pride themselves on fresh rare to find fish. Plus they serve it simple and done perfectly. The oysters are excellent. They shuck them quick and properly. Sit at the oyster bar and watch their magic. Plates can get a bit pricey but given that Chilean Sea Bass comes from over 10,000 miles away and onto my plate fresh...I'll pay it. read more

Went here for a birthday dinner with my boyfriend. Atmosphere and service are great. We were seated outside. The food was fresh but not up to our expectations given the reviews. The grilled octopus was a disappointment. There was no flavor and it was just greasy tasting. I am not even sure if they used the proper olive oil since it was lacking in all flavors. If you want to know what good grilled octopus is supposed to taste like..go to Varka restaurant in Ramsey. I suggest the chefs in Princeton make a reservation. Also, authentic calamari is floured not breaded. Overall it was a nice night but I wouldn't go here again. read more

If you enjoy seafood, you will love Blue Point Grill! They always have a huge list of super fresh options. My go-to at Blue Point is one of the fresh fish grilled with the coleslaw and mashed sweet potato side (they call it sweet smash). The most important thing about this restaurant is their consistency. Everything always comes out of the kitchen piping hot and cooked to perfection. The restaurant is BYO so don't forget to stop at one of the two liquor stores within a block for a bottle or two. Amazing. Good prices. Great service. Went here on Valentines Day and it was packed and I didn't think we were going to be seated but the friendly people at the front let us sit at the bar. The waiter was so friendly and helpful. The fish tacos as an appetizer leaves you ready for your dinner. They are rather small but absolutely amazing. No reservations -- we came at 5 pm on Saturday, and IT WAS CROWDED; we walked by at 10 pm and there was room -- in between 5 pm and 10 pm it was hell if you did not have a seat already (we did). I will keep this short and to the point. I grew up in the area and I honestly believe this is one of the better places to get a good, fresh piece of fish and have it prepared how you like. There is almost always a wait if you go on a nice night, but they will open your wine/liquor and have live music on certain nights. Really terrific spot in the middle of rustic Princeton. Started with the crab and avocado martini. If you like guacamole you will like this. Then went on to the mixed grill of Arctic Char and Baramundi, done without drying out the fish. Cod fish and chips was also delicious with a batter somewhere between New England style and English style. Even the kid's chicken tenders were excellent. The service was friendly and the vibe was youthful and casual, with just the right amount of conversational noise. It is BYOB, no liquor license. Can't go wrong with this spot. read more

Great Seafood, great location, and a friendly staff. Been here many times and the quality of food and service has always been very good. It's not cheap although it's a good value for what you get. These people know fish. The fish market next door is associated with the restaurant so what more can you ask for. It all adds up to high quality, fresh fish cooked to perfection. I like my fish plain with out a bunch of other stuff piled on top and that's what they do best. You may see types of fish on the menu that don't recognize, it's a good idea to ask a lot of questions. The fish they offer changes every day. It's a fun place to try new types of fish that other places don't offer. If the server can't answer your fish questions ask for the manager, this guy is a seafood know it all and has been there since the restaurant first opened. The Blue Point is a great place to go for fresh oysters or seafood on any night. If you want a bottle of wine, simply go to the wine shop next door and pair it up with whatever you've ordered. Perfectly delicious, perfect for alfresco dining during summer months. The seafood dishes are absolutely sumptuous. Last time I had the Grilled Seabass, and it was so tender and aromatic, it felt like the fish was melting in my mouth. The chefs really do know what they're doing, and spices are kept at a minimum to maximize the flavor of the fish itself. Hence you can trust that they use only the freshest fish. The side dish of sweet potatoes was also made minimalistically, no added cream or sugar. The combination of tastes was fantastic. I am amazed by how much flavor can be brought out from the food itself rather than applying seasoning. This is the place to go for a perfect seafood experience, but be prepared to unleash some major damage to the bank. Bottom Line: Perfect seafood alfresco experience, prepare to pay $$$$ read more

Went for a family dinner here with our 2 and 5 year old for our anniversary. The experience was amazing. Picked up wine a liquor store few stores down. (BYOB) food was amazing!!!! Kids loved it also which is not easy to do. Octopus appetizer was brilliant. My wife who is as picky as ca be when it come to seafood, loved the place. And the wait staff take the time explain the menu if needed, and are chef adjusts where possible to accommodate. By my take one of the best seafood place I have been too, in Central NJ I wold rank on top of my list. A must go. Highly recommended. read more

The fish is always fresh here. Prices always high, and the restaurant always crowded. I have been here for dinner many times and also buy fish from their retail fish store next door (another review). They stick to the basics and get them right. Grilled fish is always tasty, and the fried clams are really good, too. Sides of baked potato and creamed spinach are great add-one but bump the bill up as everything is a la carte. We came here with a group of six a few years ago (pre-recession) and they added on an extra percentage to the tip because of our group size. Isn't it easier to serve a group of six at one table rather than serving three tables of two?? This is a difficult and off putting policy to understand. They need to change their reservation policy, too. Only larger groups can make reservations, leaving smaller groups or couples to wait for one to two houses on busy nights and even not-so-bust nights like mid-week. Despite all the negatives, my husband and I do return occasionally to this restaurant because of the uniqueness to this area and the quality of the fish. read more

Now that Mediterra seems to have gone down in quality, we decided to try Blue Point on our way back from the mountains. Wonderful seafood and very good service, and BYO. The shrimp cocktail and fried oysters were very fresh and good sized portions. The server said the Mako shark blackened was one of her favorites and my wife agreed. I had the soft shell crabs with extra garlic and they were perfect. For dessert we split the tart Key Lime Pie which was a hard choice among some other very good sounding items. Next time we're coming thru Jersey we will absolutely stop here again. read more

Even better than the best we have had at the cape. I love the Blue Point Grill. I've lived in Princeton for 17 years and this place is definitely in my top 3 in-town restaurants, best seafood in Princeton. This isn't a place you want to come if you're looking for an intimate meal, but rather a great place for socializing with friends and/or family. First of, this place is BYOB, so bring a nice bottle of white wine and then expect to wait at least 20 minutes to over an hour depending on the night and size of your party. You can call in and get your name on the list the night of to minimize the wait, but of course they don't take reservations. My last visit was especially nice; dinner with a good friend. We only waited about 20 minutes for a table inside (it was very humid outside). Our waitress was very pleasant, opened our bottle of Riesling and brought bread to the table very promptly. We ordered the crab and guacomole margherita as an appetizer, which came with corn chips for dipping. Delicious. After the bread and appetizer, I was actually quite full, but still thoroughly enjoyed half of my hazelnut-encrusted tilapia with cherry glaze, garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies (yes, as delicious as it sounds). Packed on evenings and weekends, of course - it's Princeton, but now that they take reservations you have no excuse not to give this place a try. It doesn't try to be over the top fancy which is important for a seafood gem so the flavors of the fresh ingredients aren't masked.
