Karaoke at a reasonable price! A friend recommended this place, so I decided to give it a try...what a find and great recommendation! It looked a bit sketchy, K-barish look on the outside, but on the inside, a nice open bar and seating area with karaoke. Then along the side, there are private rooms to rent. The fee is based on how much food and drinks you order. So for a small room that can fit 8-10 people, all you gotta do is to spend more than $40 / hour on food and/or drinks. For a large room than can fit about 15 people, you order $60/ hour on food and/or drinks. There is a happy hour menu from the 500pm opening to 700 pm, with pretty reasonable prices! Food was pretty good too! Bar type and korean food on the menu. Parking can be a bit limited ...about 8 to 10 stalls in the front that gets filled up by 600 -615 pm ish. Attentive service - the friendly staff checks in often, and the drinks and food came pretty quick. So yup, I think this place will be one of the higher karaoke bar on my list for future get togethers! read more

Recently stopped in fir the first time on a Thursday night, it was pretty full. They have approximately 12 parking spaces in front and there's street parking on king street. In the main area it's open mic so anyone can sing Karaoke, they also have a few private rooms that charge 1$ per song. Its still the older style that you need to loom in a gigantic binder for your song then key it in the remote. The service was great and the good was good. We had a huge plate of nachos, calamari and fries. Great selection of drinks including soju to share. Overall fun place to hang with friends or on a date. read more

Happy Hour in Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend, Irene, was going to a birthday party at Blue Ribbon. I told her that the name sounded familiar... I looked it up on my Yelp app... Gosh - I had photos from when I was here over five years ago! It looks like my friends and I had a private room and we ordered Soju in a large watermelon-shaped bowl and lots of different types of food! Haha! Well... This time, Irene and I went for Happy Hour from 5pm to 7pm because her party didn't start until 7pm. She ordered the Gin Ger Berry drink and I got the Watermelon Sugar-Hi. Both drinks were creative and strong. We shared the Kalua Pig Quesadillas, Onion Mushroom Cheeseburger with Fries, and Agedashi Tofu (with Furikake). Surprisingly, everything was delicious - we ate EVERYTHING! The tortillas of the quesadillas had a slight crisp from being toasted just right and the burger was nicely grilled! The fries were crisp and had the perfect touch of salt! We told the bartender how pleased we were with the food. I confessed to the friendly bartender that I was here at Blue Ribbon about 5 years ago and I don't remember the food being so good. The bartender explained that they had a new cook. She introduced us to the cook who was a petite, older, Asian woman. The cook was so happy with our compliments about her cooking skills! I think we made her day! I wouldn't mind returning! The place was clean with little festive blue lights up above and a cool aquarium in the back. PARKING: There were about twelve free parking stalls in the front. They do open at 5 so I came earlier to check the place out with Nadine C and decided to get an early start on the happy hour and we had the Agedashi Tofu, Kalua Pig Quesadillas, and Onion Mushroom Cheeseburger with fries (On the specials menu), we loved it so much we had to thank the lovely lady who prepared it and made sure she knew it was delicious! Along with our meal we had some cocktail Watermelon Sugar Hi for her and Gin-Ger Berry for me...omg super strong as it took me all night to finish it, we both didn't care for our drinks though later in the night several of my groupies all enjoyed the Ume Chu-Hi...and drank it way too easy, we also tried several soju including POG and Guava super yummy! This places certainly doesn't give you the blues as it can cater to all right in the heart of McCully having basically the lot to it's own at night makes it a great place to gather to celebrate an occasion like what I was there for with a group of 20+ easily as we did reserve one of three private karaoke rooms available though it didn't fit all of us the introverts made themselves comfortable on one of many booths and tables in the main dining room. They do have happy hour from 5pm to 7pm but everything we tried was yummy and reasonably priced including the karaoke is $1 a song the singer in our group sang their hearts out joyfully all night long. Participated in several Happy Hour Karaoke UYEs at Blue Ribbon Bar & Grill in McCully, so it's about time for a review! Located on makai side of King Street past Hau'oli Street, if you get to Pumehana Street, you went to far. There are a small amount of stalls in front of BRBG, watch out for the reserved stalls. If the business tied to the reserved stalls is closed for the day, you can use them. There is street parking available on King St after 6:30 pm. BRBG is an older small neighborhood bar. Walking in, you go directly into the main area with a good amount of tables. The first time we went, we were nearly the only ones in the bar. The second time we went (on the same night a week later), there were several other groups and it felt relatively crowded. There are also several private rooms for about 8-10 people that are available. Happy Hour is 5-7 pm everyday. There are 9 HH food items, $.50 off select bottled beers, and $5 beers & well drinks. We started with HH food and added one or two food special or regular food items. Impressions: HH Agedashi Tofu. Light breaded, deep fried, and served with a soy dashi sauce and daikon- very good, will repeat! HH Cold Tofu. A generous amount of tofu with a soy sesame oil drizzle, with ginger & green onions. More neutral tasting than the agedashi. HH Edamame. Nothing fantastic, but a good item to start. HH Tater Tots. Nothing fantastic but good, will repeat. HH French Fries. Crinkle cut, Nothing fantastic. HH Kalua Pork Quesadilla. A decent sized quesadilla layered with kalua pork, very good, will repeat! HH Karaage Chicken. Probably my favorite! Aunty Nadine C & Peter Y's buddy Ben fell somewhere between those two extremes. With tax and tips, total came up between $35-48, not bad. My first time trying a seafood pancake was successful because it was filled with veggies and seafood perfectly. I always get nervous trying a restaurants kim chee fried rice because I cannot handle the heat... buuut, the best kim chee fried rice in town because... though it was a bit spicy, it just bursts with umami flavors!!! There is a different between unbearably hot and flavorful! This was the perfect balance, had a kick, but very flavorful and not just HOT! Lastly, you can't forget about the soju! Came here for the first time with some friends. Ordered a variety of beers and shots that you'd find at other bars, but they had multiple flavors for soju. We ordered the grilled pork chops (kinda dry), NY steak (delicious), kalbi (amazingly delicious), fries (nothing special), kimchee fried rice (delicious), pan fried mandoo (super delicious), and kimchee pancake (flavorful, but it didn't come with any sauce). Overall the prices were typical bar prices, but a lot of the food were very flavorful and delicious. Our waitresses whom I've forgotten their names because this review is a week old, were both awesome. They were fast and very friendly. They have an old karaoke system, but it was enough for my drunk friends to mentally think they were doing a concert lol. I liked this place before the service got bad. Food was always good, so that's where the 1 star comes from, but I had a really bad experience with one of the waitresses. First of all she kept getting our orders wrong, giving orders to the wrong person. At first, no big deal. We continue with our night. I order my usual glass of wine. The waitress takes my $20 and I wait for my wine. Took a little long, but she finally brings it. But I notice she didnt give me change. I give them the benefit of a doubt and wait. I waited a while. I kept waiting and watch the waitress just go do other things, so I am wondering if she forgot. Mind you, at this point, I am not mad at all. I just get up and go politely ask another waitress for my change. She checks on it with the waitress that was helping me and that waitress walks over to me, gives me my change, but then starts giving me attitude and tells me, "what you thought I wasn't gonna give you your change" while rolling her eyes at me! Ohh that pissed me off! I hate when people give me attitude, it puts me in a fighting mood! I responded, well, you should give change back to people right away! (I was thinking, if you can't do that then at least let the customer know your change is coming) She didn't tell me anything, so it seemed like she forgot. I even tipped her after! I felt stupid tipping someone who gave me bad service! I was pissed off! Not only that, but I recall now, the during my first order, she forgot to give me change too! That was actually the second time! I ended up storming out, complaining to a worker as I left! I found out later that the waitresses did not return change to my friends either. Does that mean, the bar just took their money?? Idk..but I will never go back and my friends and I go Kataoke at least once a month, if not 2x a month. It's sad because I really liked that place before this happened. We sometimes come with a large group, but I will never recommend we go back. These waitresses need better customer service training. If anyone wants to go to a good kataoke bar, Chiko's is a couple of blocks down on McCully. The food is good and cheaper. They fill your wine up to the rim! The service is so excellent. This hidden gem is great! I've been here a few times late at night and it's always packed. The one time I did come early, literally right when they opened, it was nice to grab a room with friends. The food is bar food but very affordable yet tasty. The workers are very attentive and make sure to monitor when you need something. As more of my friends trickled in, we moved to the main room to sing karaoke. The ambiance was nice and comforting. Everyone took turns singing and the shared atmosphere was great. Favoritism I'n karaoke. Supposed to have 3 songs per table. We waited 3 hrs to sing 7 songs and didn't even sing the last two. The waitress cut us off 3 times. A white waitress who can't even hold a tune cut infront of our set of 3 songs. Sound system used to be good but now mics are muffled and soft. Worse place to sing karaoke if your a singer. I had to get a refund for my 2 songs . Terrible Terrible Terrible experience. I had guess from out of town who couldn't even sing their song. The auntie/ajumma cooking in the back briefly spoke with us and she absolutely runs a masterclass in cooking delicious local bar food. Ordered the kalua pig nachos, meat jun, Kim Chee pancake, Mando and fried noodles. All 10/10 solid. Rainbow soju was $$ and dangerous! Songs are $1...can't go wrong here. I used to go to this place pre-COVID. It was an awesome karaoke bar, happy people, awesome vibes, great staff. NOW? Some of the same staff, same bartender that first introduced watermelon shoju to me years ago... and what was cute was it was served in an actual watermelon ceramic dish, which just made it cute and delicious and enjoyable for me. TODAY? Idk what was bugging the bartender but the watermelon soju was warm, no ice, and less than the normal amount in the watermelon serving dish that it comes in.. then she insists on a card because I wasn't sure yet if I was going to pay cash or card - I was waiting on a friend. I know- I get it, that's the standard. Cash or card yada yada, but we've been there so many other times that they never insisted on the card before so to not make a scene, I gave a card. It wasn't the card to charge, but I gave a card. They usually don't charge a card right away without permission anyway. But she went ahead and charged my card without even giving me a receipt to make sure I'm getting charged appropriately.. comes and says real loud, YOUR CARD GOT DECLINED. So now my friend is mad and upset, and embarrassed LOL me? I could care less, wanna play dumb games? i'll play. So I gave her another card that I really wanted to pay on - AFTER I got a receipt to make sure I'm getting charged appropriately first.. and she looked surprised. Now mind you, the whole time there, she's opening beer bottles and slamming the beer bottle opener on the counter in the front of us.. Got the WHOLE bar with several other empty seats that she can do that too, but no, she wants to do that in front of us.. And as for food service?? Two of us, ordered pupus. We usually order a whole lot of pupus, but they gave us NO little plates to eat off of.. so dropping bits and pieces of our tofu and shoyu all over the counter was expected. NOTHiNG. Great service, very good food and very comfortable facility. Six of us went there on a Thursday evening. The place was not busy so they graciously let us have the big room. The room itself was clean and comfortable. Big enough for a group of 10-12. This place has been around for a long while and the owners and staff are super friendly. The song books are categorized by song names. There's also a Korean song book which apparently also contains Japanese songs. At least that was my understanding from my Japanese friend. It's $1/song. Along with the great service, we were really impressed with the food. The kimchi and seafood jun were were big hits along with the crispy tator tots. There are only 8 official parking spots but they'll let you double park as long as you let them know where to find you when the person that you're blocking needs to leave. So first of all, let me preface this with you have to love karaoke and people singing it good and sometimes bad. This bar has TVs, amazing food and probably the coldest bud light I have ever had. That's why I come here. The wait staff is pretty and some nicely tattooed. Everyone is nice and it's a nice place to hang out. They make their own kimchee which is amazing. Not too sour and full of flavor. Crunchy cabbage and it pairs nicely with the seafood pancake (see pictures). Tuesdays the bud light is $2.50 per freezing cold bottle, not sure if it's all night. This place is close to work for me and I enjoy coming here. The prices for the food is reasonable. Downside is that they open at 5pm. Check them out but don't come Tuesdays, that's my day. read more

This was my first time going to Blue Ribbon's for a friends birthday. I didn't realize that they were that busy. The place isn't that big but it was standing room only. If you want to sing you have to put money in the karaoke machines. When we first arrived,we sat in the main lounge and the songs were $1 each but the wait was an hour and a half so we decided to go into a private room when one opened up. Songs were $2 in the private rooms. For some odd reason, the workers came to check on us and asked if we needed to order anything every 10 minutes. It got kind of annoying. The food and drinks here were kind of pricey. I ordered a cranberry and orange juice mix (2 glasses) and a can of diet coke. They were $4 a piece, so $12 for two juices and a can of diet coke. For pupus, we got the calamari and fried chicken wings. They were $10 a plate and there wasn't much food on there. The food was good but for the price they should give a little more. read more

If karaoke, beer, and mediocre food is all you want, then this place is right up your alley. The bar is located near the intersection of McCully and S. King St. with a small parking lot in the front. The stalls are marked with either "reserved" or "30 minutes" which was a little confusing at first, but we later learned that they begin valet parking cars from about 6pm. This place is definitely dive and could stand a makeover. Fortunately, it didn't have any weird lingering odors on top of that. They have some karaoke rooms that you can reserve in advance but we lucked out and got one that wasn't. All songs are $1 each in both English and Korean. The food here is just "ok". Prices were in line with other local bars but the quality doesn't compare. To me, it was just food that helped to absorb some of the alcohol. We got a refreshing thing of Watermelon Soju to start with and it wasn't so bad. But after we polished that off, a few of us moved on to other drinks for the remainder of the night. Another set back we encountered aside from the food, was that they ran out of SKYY vodka for my friend. We were told it was because one of the regulars in the next room also favors the brand. Whaat?? When we left, the bar was pretty crowded, and although I don't fully understand why people like it here, they do have an overall 4 star rating. Go figure that one out. I came here a few times about 10 years ago since my friend's friend worked here and was not impressed at all. For the record, my friend's friend stopped working here 8 years ago so I don't have any affiliation to anyone who owns or works at BRB&G now. Fast forward to 2017... NOTHING HAS REALLY CHANGED AT BRB&G!! A group of my friends met here to sing karaoke and order some food. The karaoke was surprisingly the hit of the night because there were songs that BRB&G had that we couldn't find at other karaoke bars!! The food and drinks on the other hand were a downright slap in the face to any K-Bar!! We ordered the following: -Tater Tot Nachos -Grilled Pork Chops -Fried Noodles -Kalbi -Chicken Karaage -Pan Fried Mandoo -Steamed Fish -Watermelon Soju -AMF Tater Tot Nachos. (2 stars). Nothing exciting. Something very odd! Who would have thought that cheese would be melted on the BOTTOM of the tater tots thus creating a cheesy glue between the parchment paper and the tot itself...?? The toppings were not fresh! Why can't I just get FRESH JALAPEÑOS??!! Grilled Pork Chops. (1 star). Hard as rock. Chewy. Onions everywhere. There was not one thing positive I could say about this dish!!?? I heart pork but this was a sad excuse. I couldn't even swallow more than one bite because it was so dry!! Fried Noodles. (1.5 stars). Me: What do you put in your Fried Noodles? Server: Well we put broccoli... Me: WHAT?! I should have known this dish was going to be tasteless when the highlight of the dish is broccoli?! There were probably about 6 broccoli florets in the entire dish and aside from a hint of Soy sauce I could taste nothing else. The Noodles were dry and limp. Kalbi. (2 stars). The ribs were very fatty and oily but compared to the dry limp food I had just eaten, the Kalbi wasn't that bad!! The meat was somewhat tender although there was a lot of gristle. Chicken Karaage. (1.5 stars). Most of our group seemed to like this dish. For me, after eating the juicy moist heavenly bite of chicken karaage from Umami Teppan Kingyo... I have been ruined. LOL. Kingyo's karaage is much better than this version of chicken karaage. I'm just keeping it real folks!! Pan Fried Mandoo. (2.5 stars). Probably the only thing I would actually order again. Decent size dumplings and the sauce helped with the overall flavor of the dish. I appreciated the fact that it was homemade. A little mushy filling but nonetheless better than any other dish I tried here. Steamed Fish. (2 stars). Decent flavors. Cilantro. Soy sauce. Sesame oil. Fish had some chewier parts but the flavor was there. Watermelon Soju. (1.5 stars). I love watermelon as it is so refreshing and sweet!! This ALCOHOLIC DRINK on the other hand was absolutely the worst soju cocktail I have had!! There was virtually no soju taste in it. The bartender said they put in a 16oz bottle of soju but this has got to be the weakest excuse for a soju cocktail. We nicknamed this drink "watermelon water"... Not worth it at all! AMF. (1.5 stars). Adios MF seems to be a fitting name... Aside from the pretty blue color... this drink tasted sweet?! My beloved Bacardi 151 was nowhere to be found?! Huge disappointment!! --- All in all, the company was outstanding as always but I agree with my sis Sheryl M... I'm glad I got to try this place with my friends so I have no regrets. But for me, I do not plan on coming back to BRB&G. You can take the ribbon down because I don't need to find my way back here... I definitely don't feel like this is my "home" karaoke bar and I definitely felt a "different kind of pain" coming here again. (Slap to my face). LOL... My new go to local bar. A bartender that knows me and is awesome. A server that I've known for a long time who's also awesome. Running into old friends. Food is bar solid. It's a 5 to 10 minute Uber ride away depending on how crazy fast your driver goes. Wall to wall karaoke. Some good singers. Wednesday is my night. read more
