We are locals so I've been here before. They are super nice people. We were waiting on our entire party to arrive before going in and requesting a table, they noticed us outside and had already prepared a table and sat us down as soon as our last party member arrived. I had the meatloaf special, and it's very very good. Anything I've tried from here has always been great, and it's your normal southern cooking type of restaurant. Our waitress was super sweet, very attentive, and always had our drinks refilled to not run out. Inside makes you feel is if you are having dinner at your grandma's house. Absolutely outstanding! The price was a little expensive but, we had filet mignon and salmon so. Our server ( Mateo. Isnt that a cool name?) was great. He didn't miss a lick. Everytime my wife needed a refill, he was right there with it. You got to try the haystack onions with bbq and ranch sauce. I couldn't stop eating them. The sauce is outstanding. The salad that I had was so fresh that I would have sworn they had a garden out back that they just picked it out of. Even the presentation of the food was extraordinary. Another thing that I actually didn't notice? ( A lot of the servers were in their 20's) They never once looked at their cell phones. It doesn't get any better than this family owned establishment. Hidden in the middle of a strip center. Small,friendly southern dining. Starting with the friendly hostess and our sweet waitress, Haley. I ordered a $3.50 Michelin ultra. They brought us two delicious warm biscuits to start. My husband really liked them. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on wheat plus avocado. Fried squash on the side. My husband ordered the fish po boy with onion rings on the side (.99 upcharge). Yummm. Everything was delicious. I would probably just order the chicken salad without the bread next time. We loved everything! Got the coconut creme pie to share for dessert! Next time i want to try the pecan dessert. Will definitely be back. Tasty food, great service and nice atmosphere! read more

Ate their for lunch on Oct 9th...our first time. We both ordered the fried chicken Wed special. Special is a grossly misleading. We both substituted our two sides for a salad. Both salads arrived in a small bowl and was made with iceberg lettuce My son had ranch and I had balsamic...my usual choice for salads. My dressing was flat, bland, it lacked any zest. Almost 30 minutes after our salads arrived the fried chicken came. I ordered the white meat and received a small breast heavily battered, and a wing, both were very greasy and over salty. My son got the dark meat which was two thighs and a drumstick all heavily battered and also greasy. At first I thought it was a joke. Served on this big white plate was a small breast and a chicken wing. I should have taken a picture. The can of soda $3.49! Seriously, for a can of Coke...really! The final shocking disappointment was the bill (see picture). The scant greasy and average size bowl of salad was $17.99 plus the two sodas for $45.97 and no Military Discount is offered! I usually tip in the 25-30% range and for the life of me the 20% I gave Carrie H. was far too generous. I tip on service not on food quality & value and here service was marginal at best. Grossly disappointed at the entire dining experience. MUCH better value, food and service ay Clyde's, Brickhouse, Ted's Shack just to name a few other local choices. read more

We come to the Waynesville area of North Carolina a couple of times a year and I was so excited this year to see a new restaurant that my fellow Yelpers seemed to love. So Blue Rooster was lunch today and I can say, I fully agree with the high ratings. I started with the tomato bisque. It was super thick & creamy but still included a lot of chunks of tomato. There was shredded Parmesan cheese, generally not my favorite in a tomato soup, but in this case it was subtle, not overwhelming. It is served in both cups & bowls and is a great start to your meal. Now, having been up here for several days, we were mostly past the point of wanting heavy, country food . So we both opted for salads with steak I got the beet salad and my Husband got the Biltmore salad. Sometimes in this area It can be difficult to get a salad with real greens (as opposed to iceberg or the lightest green parts of romaine). These salads were full of arugula and fresh produce/fruit. Also, the steak was cooked perfectly (very tasty, I suspect Montreal steak seasoning). On a whim, I ordered the daily special side of fried squash-- I could have eaten multiple plates of them (& I almost never order fried food). The squash was cut into thin planks and the coating was light and super tasty. I ordered ranch dressing with them and I was wrong. They were perfection just as served. I would go back in a heartbeat just for those and the soup. We never got to the desserts, but did see a cobbler that might have my name on it in the future We cannot wait to go back and specifically start working our way through their country sides. Blue Rooster is a very welcomed new addition to the Waynesville restaurant scene. read more

This place is located in a strip mall shopping center. We were pleased with the ambiance and warm welcome, good service. We did give it a 3 stars rating because everything was good, but not great and it did end up being expensive overall, compared to what we felt like we got. We had gone to Haywood Smokehouse the night before, which we thought was amazing and the bill was $15 less. We were excited about the shrimp and grits, but there was something missing, especially for $18.99. Favorites were the fried green tomatoes, fried okra and green beans. They bring bread to the table that is yummy. The tea was really good. They have call-ahead seating. read more

The Blue Rooster is in an unassuming strip shopping center, but walk in, and you'll see it's more than just a run-of-the-mill lunch stop. The menu has good variety and the meal portions are generous. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive - all the waitstaff were decked out for Christmas - very festive!! The restaurant feels homey and welcoming and the food fits the narrative :) If you're in Sylva/Waynesville - it's worth the trip!! read more

Went here for my birthday. I picked the restaurant because I wanted their Greek Salad. I was disappointed it was no longer on the menu. The food is good but not for the prices they charge on some of the food. They use to give you a free dessert on your birthday but not anymore. I ordered a piece of coconut cake to go and when the bill came they charged $9.99 for a small piece of cake! They have also started charging a fee for Non-Cash payment. The Blue Rooster has always been known for their hamburgers, but the last time we ate there was take out. The burgers undercooked, buns soggy with butter , lettuce was not fresh. Lunch today. I ordered the Robby Rhea burger with sweet potato fries. The fries were soggy and under cooked. The onion rings were limp. The bun was soft and soggy. The 1 slice of tomato looked like it was sliced yesterday. The piece of romaine lettuce was as tattered as a fighting dogs ear and dripping water wet. A couple of small pieces of pickle and finally the patty itself was bland. I would have had a better burger at the Burger King the other side of the parking lot. And saved a few $$$. read more

We researched places to stop on our way back from Gatlinburg. After seeing many favorable reviews, we decided to give it a try. We were so glad we did! The place is really quaint inside and the hostesses immediately greeted us when we arrived. We were seated quickly and our server greeted us shortly after. My husband I ordered the Monday fried chicken special which came with 2 sides for less than $10. Our daughter ordered the 5 veggie plate. All of food was delicious! We also were given tiny cornbread muffins and rolls. My grits were the best grits I have ever had! I wish I had gotten a to go container. I also ordered fried okra which was fried perfectly. The fried chicken was juicy and the breading was flavorful. If ever in the area again, I would definitely make a stop. A hidden gem! read more

I have always loved the food here. My favorite has always been the Turkey and dressing. I must say that I miss the fresh Turkey breast you once served as the meat you use now leaves a lot to be desired. I miss the seasoning in the dressing-sage.
