It's a BEAUTIFUL old building. The rooms are nice and comfortable, and you can take a really cool tour and check out the old cells, and what not. We were in town for less than 24 hours, and only at the hotel to sleep - so we only got to "play" around for like an hour, but we thoroughly enjoyed that hour walking around checking things out. The new owners (just took it over 2 weeks before we stayed last weekend) were super friendly, and were asking questions to see what they could change or do better. I LOVE when people solicit feedback, that means they are trying and that they really care. So that was awesome! Really our ONLY feedback to them was: Pillows. Different varieties (the existing ones were really flat). Other than that - everything was GREAT! They had offered breakfast options (basic cereal, fruit, muffins/bagels) but i'm not a morning person and i don't eat breakfast, so i skipped. But my parents sat and hung out for like 30 minutes. I went and hit the local Poke-stops in the town square. We stayed in the Opera room - which is the biggest, and it's on the 3rd floor. We were very comfortable! The room had a really nice ambiance, seemed like new carpet, beds were comfy, bathrooms were right outside the door.. and they kept the lights on in the hallway so we knew where we were. Everything was VERY clean. We have some family in the area, this was our first time here. While we'd heard some local "ghost" stories about this place - we did NOT have any experiences.. and we were definitely loking for them. So i'm not sure those old stories are true. I didn't get any vibes off this place. While the cells are real.. the electric chair is NOT! Just an FYI - we were told by the owner that it was picked up at a local fair as a prop for "entertainment" purposes - it is not real. The only thing i can think of is for anyone that's wheelchair bound, I don't believe there's any way for you to get upstairs. There's no elevator that I'm aware of, and the stairs are narrow/steep. We were traveling cross-country in our 20' Class B RV, and needed a place to stop for the night…read morenear Galesburg, IL after a long driving day. (Late Sept, 2024). We identified Allison Campground at Lake Storey through Campendium. We were walk-ins at this municipal campground, which is part of the Lake Storey Recreational Area, though reservations are available through their website. We didn't need hooks-ups, but sites are available with electricity, water, and sewer. Arriving around 7 pm, we were greeted by the friendly and helpful camp host as we came into the campground. He gave us a camp map, and we set out to identify the perfect site for us for the night. We drove around the large campground (142 total sites in multiple loops) and found that, being late in the season on a week day, there were many available sites. The campground is picturesque, with a lot of oak trees, lawns of healthy green grass, and some sites that are close to the lake. All sites offered free municipal WiFi. We ended up near the entrance/office because we prefer a site with level concrete pad, didn't want to risk mosquitos near the lake, and preferred the newer restrooms there. Rates were reasonable. We paid $19 for our site without any amenities. However, you could add a la carte items, as needed: electricity for $7/night, water for $6, sewer for $8, or $40 for full hook ups. Given that we only needed a safe and quiet place to sleep, we didn't avail ourselves to the full amenities of the Lake Storey Recreational Area. This 600 acre area offers swimming, boating, walking and biking trails, picnic tables, tennis, batting cages, and basketball. And, in season, when the Lakeside Water Park up is open, staying at the campground allows access to the water park for 4 persons. We did go into town, just a few minutes away, to eat dinner, pick up some groceries, and to fuel up. A few minor things. Some tree branches needed to be trimmed as they touched the top of our RV when we did the initial drive-through. Also, we'd recommend paving some more pads as many of the sites are on grass.

I suppose those more luxurious rooms were more expensive than mine, but I loved my room. They all have closets and a tv. The bed and breakfast is clean and charming. It is a large house and has a very large living room, computer room, kitchen, dining room, a screened porch, and family room. If my count is correct, I believe they have five bedrooms, some of which are large an have multiple beds and a couple have a single bed. The b&b is filled with beautiful decor. The owners, Linda and Karl Reichert, are lovely people who welcomed my whole party with warmth and delicious food. They make amazing breakfasts. The day before, you are given a menu for a three course breakfast. You choose what you'd like for each course. The first course is a fresh fruit bowl, the second is a bread course, such as homemade scones or muffins, and the third is an entree, such as pancakes or egg concoctions. All of their food was homemade from scratch. The scones were the best I've ever had in my life. Linda told me she shares recipes and gave me her scone recipe. The yard is fantastic. They have a gazebo, apple and walnut trees, a flower garden, a vegetable garden, and fruit plants. The fresh fruit you eat in the morning and some ingredients for other dishes come from their own personal garden. There is plenty of room for children to play and pets to run. For entertainment, there are tvs in every room and in the family room, there is a dart board, they have board games, and Muscatine is only a ten minute drive. This bed and breakfast is everything a b&b should be. The home is wonderful, the yard is gorgeous, the food is delicious and the people are fantastic. I would recommend strawberry farms to anyone and everyone.

I felt SO LUCKY to have found this place. The hosts were like family and sat me down to have some sherbet as soon as I arrived. (I likely looked a bit heat damaged!) My room was upstairs in the house was large with a bath. The breakfast was very tasty. I particularly liked that all the guests sat at the same table. We came into town in our small boat on a Saturday evening, thinking we'd easily find a ride service once we got to shore -- but quickly learned that wasn't the case. During our planning, we had already discovered that none of the nearby hotels allowed pets, so we booked one about three miles away to accommodate our small dog. That's when we realized we had no way to get there. In a bit of a panic, we found NET online and decided to give them a call. To our relief, they answered right away and sent a driver promptly. The driver was kind, professional, and the price was very reasonable -- a bright spot in what had been a stressful evening. Later that night, we found out the hotel couldn't provide transportation back downtown. When I called NET again, they told us they normally don't operate on Sundays, but they'd make an exception to help us out. The next morning, the owner himself arrived right on time, taking time out of his Sunday before church to give us a ride. He was incredibly gracious and even shared more about the company he and his wife founded to help others in the community. NET didn't just give us a ride -- they gave us peace of mind. It's clear they truly care about people and about making Muscatine a better place. Their compassion and dedication go far beyond what you'd expect from a transportation company.
