Incredible experience all around- we sat outside on the patio on a Saturday afternoon and the vibes were amazing. Our server was friendly and helpful. We got a bunch of different bites for the table and everything was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the himachi and the grinder salad :) Will definitely be back next time we're in Indy.

FLAVORFUL RESTAURANT IN A HIP PART OF INDY ======================================== My daughter-in-law recommended Bluebeard for dinner on Monday, June 22, 2026. I would have to say this restaurant is my favorite in Indy right now after one meal. Most of the things we shared were amazing and for a complete description please refer to my photo of the menu. We ordered the following: Burrata with Amelia's bread as an appetizer which was delicious. Gem Salad - This was amazing and I could eat it every day of the week. Stacci house made pasta - This was a big hit and I would order this every time. Hanger Steak - My husband, aka the picky eater, loved it. I didn't try it, but everyone seemed to like it. Chicken with a few dumplings - We all loved this. Three desserts to share: a cheesecake with fruit on top, one a bread pudding and a chocolate crisp. I ordered a delicious Monsoon Season cocktail with song cai vietnamese gin, cocchi americano, st. george thai basil eau de vie, elderflower, lemon and basil oil. My son and I also ordered glasses of Port after dinner. The service was great and I loved that they were playing really good rock music like Soundgarden and others. There are lots of antique typewriters above the bar and a cool print of Kurt Vonnegut by the bathrooms. I am looking forward to going again the next time my husband and I are in Indy visiting my son and daughter-in-law unless they move out of state.

Bluebeard was my pick for my birthday dinner and for good reason. The restaurant has a laid back and quirky vibe and is literary themed. Themed around Indy native Kurt Vonnegut, you'll see old typewriters, books, and names of menu items paying tribute to the famous author. The menu feels high class but the atmosphere and wait staff are friendly and welcoming. You could dress up for a special occasion or come in casual every day wear and either fit in just fine. Their ever changing menu featuring local produce and meats is always unique, inventive, and most importantly, delicious. Their cocktail list is one of the best and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had an extensive mocktail list as well. Their sodas and syrups are all house-made which means every drink is full of fresh flavors. I had a lemon pasta dish an my husband ordered the hanger steak. Both were cooked perfectly and composed of flavors and textures that complimented each other perfectly. There's nothing that wouldn't be good on their menu because you can tell the chefs are exceptional as well as the ingredients they choose. I really can't say enough good things about this place, it remains one of my favorite places to enjoy a meal and no matter what I choose, I'm never disappointed.

Wonderful service, great patio seating for the spring and yummy fries! This is a cozy restaurant in fountain square. I imagine a longer wait if you go during busy lunch and dinner times. However we arrived at 11am on a Wednesday and were seated right away. I ordered the hot chicken sando and fries. I think they double fry because the fries have the best crispy crunchy texture! I also wanted to try their general tso fried cauliflower but was stuffed!

Heading back home from Sturgis SD taking the I80 route, stopped in Indianapolis IN for a quick dinner. Quick web search, Bluebeard popped up as one choice. Reviewed the menu seemed to be eclectic enough, off we go. The place had a decent size outdoor dinning area. Few of the tables were occupied. Table for one...indoor, outdoor was the question? Indoor. Although the weather was beautiful, indoors was my choice. Al fresco dining is not my first choice. I don't like to do battle over my meal with insects and other wild life. I deducted 1 star for red wine served at room temperature. How is it that, red wines are chilled (55F) on the west coast but served at 'room temperature' (72F, 82F...) on the east coast. Had two dishes, they were OK, service was ok Would I go back? Yes, if the red wine was chilled.

I wish I took a pic of the menu I got for the day 1st bite was amazing Hamachi was so yummy 9.5/10 the best hamachi fish cut I had in Indiana Drink were solid $1.50 oysters on Sunday is what the girl next to our table recommended The salt foam on the bottom was unique, and I like the sauce was on the sweeter and tangy side Hangar steak 9/10 I like the sauce, was actually a good medium rare Brussel sprouts 8/10 Crisped so well, sauce is simple Rigatoni 8/10 Simple but pretty solid with some protein from the steak Panne cotta 8/10 Has strawberry, Rhubarb, and chamomile base Not too sweet, the wet tart texture surprised me but it was still firm and okay I thought everything I got was seasoned nicely I will be back ‍

Met a friend for lunch. This is a regular and favorite restaurant of hers and I finally was able to join her. We sat at the bar for a cocktail and lunch. I had a salmon salad which was perfect. Nice conversation with Alex and my friend! Comfortable surroundings! I hope to visit again and try out some other menu choices, for lunch AND dinner.

I'm well overdue for an update of this review. Many restaurants have come and gone since the time that Bluebeard was created and yet it still is one of the best restaurants in the city- great service, a fabulous indoor and outdoor atmosphere and a menu that celebrates Indiana's makers. We've brought our kiddos here several times and have been welcomed with open arms. I recently took my intern here for lunch to celebrate the end of her internship. Our cheeseboard, salads and charro bean chorizo soup (soup of the day) did not disappoint. It was so fun to see her experience this space with a fresh set of eyes. Bravo, Team Bluebeard.

We were stopping for a night and decided to give this place a try. We had our dog and found this place was seated on the patio, they brought a dog bowl of ice water. The outside was so nice. Inside looked awesome as well with different rooms. The half chicken was off the charts amazing, so tender and moist, great flavor. The tempura cauliflower was so great. We enjoyed the chopped it has a great dressing. Apps were great also.

Bluebeard is so highly rated in Indianapolis especially because they won a James beard award. I'm posting this review in hopes of a future change of mind because I think we just went on a bad time... 1. We ordered the winter panzanella salad and it was overpowered by goat cheese. You couldn't taste the dressing, or the sweetness from oranges. I don't know if someone got slap happy and just kept adding more goat cheese lol 2. The hanger steak had a spinach/kale puree on the plate which didn't taste like anything, the carrots were kind of hard, and once again with the goat cheese..it didn't go with the steak especially because they had a Vietnamese chimichurri sauce on top which was actually outstanding!! I asked for a side of it and the server was able to get a cup of it. 3. My husband ordered the semi boneless chicken was really good, but the blu cheese in it overpowered rest of the flavors. I think we were just done with the cheese at this point. 4. The peanut butter cake and Brussels sprouts were the highlights of our meal. The cake was absolutely fantastic! Which didn't come as a shock for me anyways since it's from jadore pastry! I think the main dishes were average for us but they're were a lot of flavors that didn't pair well together in my opinion! The service was a 10/10, our waiter checked in on us consistently, and the restaurant is perfect for a date night! Their menu changes frequently so we will definitely go back!

I had never been here before and it was very nice but VERY crowded! They definitely need a bigger venue ( with better parking ) our server was kind, but busy & scarce. I'm glad I had good company with me. The food and the drinks are simply delicious but what will keep me away from bringing people? The the tight location and the extremely tight seating. Parking is where ever you can find it. Bummer really. Its very GOOD food & FRESH! It would be SWEET if ya'll could do a second location in the ever growing Westfield!

    Hang D.

A little European getaway right in the Fletcher Place neighborhood. Everything is sourced from local farms and you can taste the freshness. The salads and dinners showcase ingredients the best. Staff is professional and kind. There's a more dimly lit section of the restaurant and the brighter patio space! An unhidden gem in Indy, this place is well known for a reason.

    Are reservations a must here?

They don't take reservations but the restaurant is well managed and the wait is worth it because the food is delicious.

Vegan-friendly, but not vegan-specialized if you understand my meaning. The beet salad (which has cheese, so you need to ask them to hold that) and roasted cauliflower are delicious options. Outside of that, the menu changes daily and it's going…

Thoughts about bringing our 20 month old for early dinner service... Yes or no?

Yes, you sure can. While the food and service is fine dining, the atmosphere is fairly casual.

We came in on a Friday night at 6:30 with no reservation, and had to wait ~5 minutes for a table of two. We were sat at a high top at the bar, which we appreciated. Our server greeted us quickly, and checked in a few times throughout the night. Service was average, nothing spectacular but nothing to complain about. I had a hurricane to start off. Packed full of the good stuff, and one was definitely enough for the night. Appropriate price for what you get. This drink is what brought my review from a 2 for the food to a 3 in total. We started off with pork Bao buns. The bun was spongy, but somewhat dry. The pork lacked any sort of flavor, and the sauce on it didn't do much for me. The next part of the meal was the most disappointing for me: the curry chicken wings. Let me tell you- I was excited for these. These lacked any sort of flavor at all, and the only thing saving it was the ranch. The wings had a good crisp, but the sauce was lacking taste. I had the Shoyu ramen for my main. It was a pretty average bowl of ramen, but for the price, I expected more. The pork in it was flavorful, but the chicken in it was odd in my opinion with an unexpected herby flavor. Overall, service was average (but we appreciated getting sat fast), drinks were strong (and saved the meal) and the food was average. Would go if invited by a friend, but probably would not return on my own.
