We ordered the Caesar broccolini and the Burrata for our appetizers. The portions were plenty for 2 to 3 people. Both appetizers were good. We ordered the lamb Ragu and the half chicken for our meals. Neither one of us typically orders a pasta dish, but the server recommended it and it did not disappoint! The half chicken was incredible. My friend even said "this is the best chicken I've ever had in my life". I would order both of these dishes again! Lulled to sleep by outdoor seating options, sporadically tattooed wait staff, and cutesy menu typeface. In all of your bluster, did any of you see the player get sucker-punched? It was me! Five finger death punched by petite portions at pumped up prices. As I rolled on the ground in agony, you looked at yourself. Sure, your outfit was cute and your date was hot and you did a birthday thing and so on and so forth. But let's not forget the atrocity of what sat on our plates! Incredible experience all around- we sat outside on the patio on a Saturday afternoon and the vibes were amazing. Our server was friendly and helpful. We got a bunch of different bites for the table and everything was fresh and delicious. FLAVORFUL RESTAURANT IN A HIP PART OF INDY ======================================== My daughter-in-law recommended Bluebeard for dinner on Monday, June 22, 2026. I would have to say this restaurant is my favorite in Indy right now after one meal. Most of the things we shared were amazing and for a complete description please refer to my photo of the menu. We ordered the following: Burrata with Amelia's bread as an appetizer which was delicious. Gem Salad - This was amazing and I could eat it every day of the week. Stacci house made pasta - This was a big hit and I would order this every time. Hanger Steak - My husband, aka the picky eater, loved it. I didn't try it, but everyone seemed to like it. Chicken with a few dumplings - We all loved this. Three desserts to share: a cheesecake with fruit on top, one a bread pudding and a chocolate crisp. I ordered a delicious Monsoon Season cocktail with song cai vietnamese gin, cocchi americano, st. george thai basil eau de vie, elderflower, lemon and basil oil. My son and I also ordered glasses of Port after dinner. The service was great and I loved that they were playing really good rock music like Soundgarden and others. Bluebeard was my pick for my birthday dinner and for good reason. The restaurant has a laid back and quirky vibe and is literary themed. Themed around Indy native Kurt Vonnegut, you'll see old typewriters, books, and names of menu items paying tribute to the famous author. The menu feels high class but the atmosphere and wait staff are friendly and welcoming. You could dress up for a special occasion or come in casual every day wear and either fit in just fine. Their ever changing menu featuring local produce and meats is always unique, inventive, and most importantly, delicious. Their cocktail list is one of the best and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had an extensive mocktail list as well. Their sodas and syrups are all house-made which means every drink is full of fresh flavors. I had a lemon pasta dish an my husband ordered the hanger steak. Both were cooked perfectly and composed of flavors and textures that complimented each other perfectly. There's nothing that wouldn't be good on their menu because you can tell the chefs are exceptional as well as the ingredients they choose. I'm well overdue for an update of this review. Many restaurants have come and gone since the time that Bluebeard was created and yet it still is one of the best restaurants in the city- great service, a fabulous indoor and outdoor atmosphere and a menu that celebrates Indiana's makers. We've brought our kiddos here several times and have been welcomed with open arms. I recently took my intern here for lunch to celebrate the end of her internship. We were stopping for a night and decided to give this place a try. We had our dog and found this place was seated on the patio, they brought a dog bowl of ice water. The outside was so nice. I'm posting this review in hopes of a future change of mind because I think we just went on a bad time... 1. We ordered the winter panzanella salad and it was overpowered by goat cheese. You couldn't taste the dressing, or the sweetness from oranges. I don't know if someone got slap happy and just kept adding more goat cheese lol 2. The hanger steak had a spinach/kale puree on the plate which didn't taste like anything, the carrots were kind of hard, and once again with the goat cheese..it didn't go with the steak especially because they had a Vietnamese chimichurri sauce on top which was actually outstanding!! I asked for a side of it and the server was able to get a cup of it. 3. My husband ordered the semi boneless chicken was really good, but the blu cheese in it overpowered rest of the flavors. I think we were just done with the cheese at this point. 4. The peanut butter cake and Brussels sprouts were the highlights of our meal. The cake was absolutely fantastic! Which didn't come as a shock for me anyways since it's from jadore pastry! I think the main dishes were average for us but they're were a lot of flavors that didn't pair well together in my opinion! We were visiting Indianapolis and made this our last meal before heading home -- couldn't have picked a better spot to end the trip. Everything we ordered was delicious and flowed nicely. The grilled bread and grinder salad were perfect starters (the grinder salad is basically an Italian sandwich in salad form, which was fun and thoughtful). The branzino was clean and nicely cooked, and the lumache was a hit with my daughter -- rich and creamy but still balanced. Desserts were a highlight. Bright, airy restaurant with inside and outside patio seating as well as a a slightly more dim separate bar area. Prices are slightly higher, but not prohibitive - and actually feel really reasonable for a quality meal and a nice evening out. The service I received from the bartenders in the bar area to my server at dinner was great. My server was especially attentive and helpful. For the most part, they don't take reservations (if you want a reservation, I don't think they use any of those apps/online services - you may have to call in and book it old school). I got there early and had a drink in the bar area and got seated really quickly because I was there before the main dinner crowd. From an out of town tourist (coming into Indy for one weekend): when I was looking into which restaurants I wanted to go to, this place stuck out because my favorite restaurants tend to fall under the category or similar philosophy of Alice Water's Chez Panisse (one of my fave restaurants anywhere) - source with simple, local ingredients and apply techniques to let those ingredients shine. Looking into this restaurant, this spot seemed to be the most shining example of that philosophy in Indy. I started with the Alpine Fizz at the bar. Refreshing! There were some other fun cocktails on the menu as well. Food-wise, I ordered the charcuterie plate (chef's choice of meats/cheeses) and the semi boneless 1/2 chicken. I also got a glass of pinot nor from their wine list to wash it down. I really enjoyed my meal overall. The charcuterie plate was great - my only note was that the soft cheese was a little stronger/pungent than what I'm used to. I needed the jam to balance out the flavor. The chicken was tasty. Nice smoky flavor from the grilled/charred chicken and pepper. Bright citrus and other acidic components worked well with dish. I wonder if more aromatics, herbs, or spice would help balance it out a bit, but just a tasty dish either way. If I were with others, I would have loved to order more, but since I was here solo and didn't want to bring a bunch of leftovers back to my hotel, I tried to keep the order relatively small. Made a reservation for a Friday evening, party or 5 and I'm glad we did, the place was packed! It is not a big restaurant so seating is limited. The vibe of Bluebeard is fun - it is casual and dressy enough for a pair of jeans, a casual heel and a top. Our party of 5 was sat at a very small table so shuffling drinks and plates around the table all night was annoying. I think Bluebeard is best for maybe a party size of 4 or less, they really don't have tables to accommodate more than that. Our waitress was attentive and friendly throughout the evening. Everyone raved about their drinks! We recommend getting the olives and charcuterie to start, although we did expect to see more options on the charcuterie board. For dinner I would recommend getting one of their pastas - we all liked them very much, one of our friends said his pasta was a bit too salty but overall said the flavor was good. For sides, don't pass up on the cauliflower and Brussels sprouts - honestly these were the shining stars of our main course! I will give Bluebeard another try since their menu does change so often but it will probably be for a date night. read more

I've heard a lot of positive things about this restaurant & it definitely lives up to its reputation. The restaurant encourages walk-ins, so I didn't make a reservation, which I do regret, since it was a 1.5 hour wait, but I am glad we made the wait. We ordered a few things: grilled bread, hamachi crudo, semi-boneless half chicken, and the casserace. As for the drink, we had the alpine fizz. Everything we had was delicious. To start, the grilled bread was crisp and tasty- we went back to amelia's the next day, because we liked it so much. I loved the butters it came it, especially the blueberry butter and the roasted garlic. The hamachi crudo was finished tableside and it was amazing. The mix of pineapple and basil added a nice touch. For the main dishes, the chicken was tender and I enjoyed the shisito peppers. For the casserace, the noodles were a perfect texture and the lamb didn't taste gamey. Fortunately or unfortunately, their menu changes daily according to the staff. We (7 of us) did family style just so we could try as much as possible variety. It was a beautiful day for our first visit to Bluebird, so we sat outside on their very cute courtyard. It's set back from the street between buildings, and there were a lot of other customers out there enjoying the sun and breeze so it was a little loud. Not to an overwhelming extent, though. My ears are just getting old along with the rest of me. We tried the menu Bluebeard had prepared for the "Devour Indy" event, and overall we were happy with that decision. Our server was super friendly and helpful, and the three-course meal was delivered at a very nice pace. First course The oysters were satisfactory, and the chilled tomato curry soup was superb -- cool, creamy, bright, and spicy. Second course The pork tenderloin was a little overcooked and dry. The short rib ragu was on the border of being too salty, but the creme fraiche and sweet grilled corn kept it from going over the edge. Really nice, satisfying dish. Third course We picked the ideal desserts for a nice crisp fall day (croissant bread pudding with salted caramel sauce) AND a lovely late summer day (vanilla cake). Excellent Summer Devour menu! Came in on a Sunday night and had to go to the bar for a drink and bread to wait for a table. Oddly, there were plenty of open tables in the bar area but we got seated in a less desirable area next to the hostess stand. Love the ambience of this place. From the entrance with the outside tables to the inside, it just fits in the Fletcher area. Everyone was extremely nice and inviting and we felt at home instantly. The black ink pasta was very good, would not say exceptional, but very good. The gnocchi was not something that I liked very much. We also ordered the grilled bread, potatoes and brussels sprouts. The grilled bread and spread choices were mind blowing, which seems silly it is just bread, but mind blowing. The brussels sprouts are a little more acidic and I loved them. The potatoes were loved by everyone, but the flavor on the top was not something to my liking, but not giving points off if it was just not my thing. The potatoes without the sauce were cooked perfectly and great tasting. Dessert was the cherry croissant bread pudding, out of this world. Just get it, thank me later and I am not even a huge cherry fan. I also got the German chocolate cake. It was different with a type of caramel sauce on it. On first arrival, I am reminded on how it's tucked into the womb of the building - lol it's basically a nice little nook off the fountain square. It's a pleasant statement. I go in, it's low lit but not to the point that I'm blinded and trip and fall and die. I sit at the bar. The bartender is half asleep. I slap him to wake him up, then throw eucalyptus salts in his face to really seal the wake up deal. Okay I'm kidding, he eventually perked up but I did nothing of the sort! Staff was really chill and Bryan with a Y was exceptionally skilled at confusing me with big words and learning lessons. Apparently this restaurant was one of my favorites of this year. And I want to tell you why. I went to this place twice in one day because they have such an effective list of options. I walked in during snack time (3-5 pm) because I just missed lunch. The bartender (I sat nearby bar) was great at recommending me things to do and get. Since this restaurant constantly refreshes the menu, he gave me the general vibes as I drank a delicious cocktail. I had to leave for a conflict but I decided to come back for dinner with a friend and we sat at the bar. I think during my Indianapolis trip this was my best dining experience. The pastas were freshly made and tasted superb. We had a raviolo with egg in the middle surrounded by morels. It was so decadent and smooth. There are only a couple of restaurants that I would recommend to visit just to try the dessert. This is one of them. They had options that showed that there was thought and intention put into their creation as opposed to having desserts there just because. Looked around they were not overly busy. 45 minutes later, the food arrived. Burger is definitely not flame-grilled or open-grilled. Tasted more like they fried it in a skillet. While it tasted ok, nothing you could not have done at home. Seasoning on the burger, if any, was sparse. One person had their accompaniment on the side. Fries came with the meal they were very crispy and good. They were very nicely done. Also given what was supposed to be butter very much margarine of some sort not true butter. The salad was ok. Sadly they left large chunks of the core of the lettuce in making the quality not as appetizing. We also had to go hunt down a server to refill our drinks. Was most looking forward to trying this place as the ratings looked good. Perhaps we visited on an off day for them. We were not impressed with the service or food. Perhaps the alcoholic beverage menu is better that menu looked amazing. Maybe if I had ordered a couple of cocktails I could have given them a better rating. Birthday Dinner Review Service - 3/10 This was a birthday dinner for one of us, so we were hoping for a memorable experience. Unfortunately, the service fell well short of expectations. Our server seemed preoccupied for much of the first half of the meal, frequently disappearing for 10 minutes or more after saying she'd "be right back." When she did return, she would often just stand at the table silently until I spoke, which felt awkward. Throughout the evening, our drinks repeatedly sat empty. While we were enjoying dessert, she told us, "No rush, but you are my last table here." Whether intentional or not, it definitely came across as rushing us to leave. To make matters worse, the table next to us continually received complimentary "gifts from the kitchen," while we received only the bare minimum service--even though the staff knew we were celebrating a birthday. That inconsistency made the experience feel disappointing. Food Half Roasted Chicken - 7/10 The flavors reminded me of a classic Southern comfort meal--roasted chicken, potatoes, and gravy. Everything was seasoned very well and tasted like something a Southern grandmother would make for a special family dinner. Simple, comforting, and satisfying. Pesto Pasta - 5/10 The dish was light, lemony, and refreshing, but the pesto itself lacked depth. It was surprisingly bland, with very little basil or pine nut flavor, making the sauce forgettable. General Tso Cauliflower - 8/10 The standout food item of the night. It had a deep, rich flavor with an excellent crispy coating that held up well to the sauce. Drinks Bee's Knees (with Mezcal) - 7/10 A solid cocktail with a nice smoky twist from the mezcal. Pulp Friction - 10/10 Outstanding. Easily the best drink of the evening and one I'd order again without hesitation. Overall, I'd give this experience 2.5 out of 5 stars. For a dinner that cost over $200, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and attention to detail, especially for a birthday celebration. While there were a few highlights, particularly the General Tso cauliflower and the Pulp Friction cocktail, the service overshadowed the entire evening.
