Be prepared to spend a lot of money for a day pass, but know that an Aquatic membership is actually pretty reasonable. Additionally: Not-so-confident swimmers, beware- the pool has a deep end which you will encounter at some point I've never been to the fitness equipment area, so I can't speak to that. In sum: Great place to go if you've got a membership, but if you only want to go swimming here once or twice, I'd skip it.

Ok, they're not all like that, but most of them are missing a soul. Which often means the people who go there are missing one too. The thing I like about the City Baths is it's retro, old school charm. It reminds me of an old timer who after 80 years still works out the old fashioned way by running after chickens, or something, instead of hopping on a treadmill. It may not to decked out with the newest technology, or in the most pristine condition, but it has personality. Which is a rare find in a gym.

Because of this it took me quite a while to actually go in. a few laps past the windows to look in to see the equipment they have available and the membership prices. One night I couldn't sleep - one of the hot sticky nights that sleep just doesn't want to come - so I thought to myself that now is the best possible time to go and try it out. The gym layout is styled on those west coast US gyms you see in the movies. With more equipment than you can imagine - weight training, cardio fitness, boxing and more - I just wanted to run on the treadmill for a few hours. Afterwards the fully stocked Pro Shop for all your training supplement requirements,and what's better is the coffee shop found even closer than you'd expect. Now I guess I'll never sleep. The membership is not the cheapest if you're a "every now and then" kinda gym user but if it's a 4-6 day a week thing this is definitely for you.

Amazing gym for the pros and novices!…read more This is where the pros come to train... so if you're into bodybuilding and happen to be in the wild wild west, then this is the place for you. There's the main gym (beware of bulging biceps and beef-cakes), the ladies gym (where us girls to go and sweat and smell pretty in our pink gym gear), the cardio gym, boxing gym and group exercise gym (aka aerobics room - but aerobics is so 1987). Offering a huge range of supplements and protein for every kind of beef-cake. Memberships are really well priced at $399 for 15 months or $5 for a casual visit. Friendly staff are always smiling and willing to help and make your 6am start more bearable! x

The only bad thing I would say is that their promotions are scams. I got a text offering membership for $15.50 a week. When I went in it was $22 a week. Oh and no windows in the building means it's pretty stinky. They need some Glade Sensations or something. But nonetheless, you can always jump on a machine as there are heaps. There are also no burly muscle guys being weirdos in the corner which is great as that is what usually deters me from joining a unisex gym. Opening hours are also good - until 10pm! Means I can finish work late and still make it.

The class is different each time (definitely not Bikram!), and both the sanskrit and common names for poses are used. The instructor moves between students and helps with poses, uses fun - though low-energy - tunes, and offers multiple options for different skill levels (as an arm-balance newbie, I really appreciate an atmosphere that encourages development while doesn't judge newer or less-strong students). Honestly, one of the best yoga classes I've ever been to!

A small, friendly gym run by people who know what they're doing…read more They've got a small weights room upstairs but the focus is on on classes and personal training. The owner/instructors Brent and Reece alter the classes every day and include cardio and weights in every session. They're on three or four times a day at times convenient for people who have jobs. They also do bootcamps, detox weeks and nutrition assistance. It's a good space, the classes are interesting, and the instructors are genuinely interested in their members. Extra bonus: no muscle-bound grunters to put you off your exercise.

I have access to the spa, sauna, pool, gym equipment, classes (Body Step, Zumba, Body Balance & Yoga are just a few) and regular fitness checks from the personal trainers. I really enjoy logging all my fitness into the website, the more points that I accrue, the closer I hit a milestone. Once you hit a milestone, you will receive a little gift, whether it is a water bottle, towel, swimming cap etc. It's the gyms way of saying 'Good on your hard work! Keep it up!' The gym doesn't get too crowded and there are so many machines you can work on! Good luck to whoever is reading this and get healthy! :)

How lucky we are to have access to such a pool so close to the city. This is a 50 metre outdoor…read morepool that provides for the littlies as well with separate a kiddie pool. There are spacious surroundings with a lot of lounging area, although there is a distinct lack of grass. The pool is mostly clean and chlorine levels are well maintained. The spa is large enough for eight and it can get busy in the sauna and steam room. Lap swimmers mostly use the pool year round (thanks to the solar heating, this is easily possible in winter too), but in the warmer months hoards of people flock the pool, especially on weekends. On Sunday afternoons in summer, live bands play and the party atmosphere is contagious. Open since 1908, there are numerous photos and plaques to provide some history. Also there are huge cautions in Italian, to remind you of the history of Fitzroy.
