I usually don't like it when they're all over you trying to assist, but we are going to a wedding in a couple of weeks and I need new clothes!! She went right to work, finding matching items at the right size, and got assistance from the manager when needed - this woman gave great advice! It turns out the clerk was new, and this ended up being a training session. Well, it took about an hour and a half - so much time I never spend on myself, but we'll worth it here! I tried different styles in different colours, and ended up with a complete outfit, including a necklace, all at a 25% discount. Bravo! The only thing I did not get was shoes. Saved that for another shopping trip.

They also offer a rewards program that sends you emails only once a week, instead of the spam that comes every day. I don't know how long they've been here, but they weren't in Yelp before we visited, so my guess is it hasn't been here too long. We will keep an eye on the place, and check it out every now and again.

Because of the pandemic, I thought I would have a very difficult time doing an exchange at the store. I was greeted by a very friendly staff upon entry and was so refreshing to deal with Neisha. Neisha was the most pleasant person and say easy going. In most cases, returning or exchange and any other store is not always dealt in a positive manner. Not the case at Journeys. I will be going back for my next purchase, they have a great selection of merchandise but mostly because of my experience. Neisha deserves a raise.

(They also had a shelf dedicated to the skincare line I'm from, however they were out of stock of everything from that line.) The store is cute and aesthetic, and has the typical cute plushies and little accessories that most Korean stores tend to have in stock. They also have a variety of korean makeup products. However, something to note is that their prices are slightly more expensive than the average Korean product (like by a dollar or so, when compared to online retailers, but not a big deal at all). Something to note- currently, they have a "no refunds" policy. Only exchanges are permitted for "unopened beauty and electronics within 14 days after purchase with original receipt." The store is located across from the Sephora store in Bayshore Mall, which is perfect so you can grab all your beauty and skincare needs all at once! All in all, definitely a store you should check out!

So needless to say, I do not fall into their target demographic, but I do like some of their items. I would describe their general aesthetics as the way people on the Stage Crew dressed at my high school. A mix of goth, emo, grunge, and lolita. Not all of their stuff is like that though. They have lots of Funko Pops! Yeah, I think they are cute and I collect them. And they sometimes have huge sales, like Funko Pops for $3-5 each. They also have awesome stuff for Halloween! I've picked up a lot of Halloween accessories at Hot Topic over the years. They also carry cool gift items for people who like pop culture stuff. I once got my brother an insulated lunch bag shaped like a Nintendo Gameboy Colour at Hot Topic, and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt. They also have random quirky stuff like earrings shaped like giant cherries (love!). If you sign up for their emails you get coupons and special offers. They have 3 locations in Ottawa, this one in Bayshore, one at the Rideau Centre and one at the Tanger Outlets. They are all very similar. Staff are very nice and welcoming of all customers, even those who look obviously out of place there like me, lol.

There is usually something at the checkout that they are trying to up sell you with, like a travel mug or umbrellas. If you are a regular customer, their point system card is helpful. Once you gather enough points, they issue you a coupon, like $10.00 of your next purchase. The one thing that stands out from other companies is that if your shirt rips after only a couple months of wear, they will exchange it for another. Pretty cool!

Miniso is like an Asian dollar store (although prices are more than a dollar). They sell mostly products that are designed in Japan but made in China. They sell a variety of items like housewares, cosmetics, cell phone accessories, toys, and even some food. The aesthetics is part functional, part kawaii. They have water bottles with cartoon bears printed on them, cute cell phone ring stands, and cables in pastel colours. Prices are higher than dollar stores but still very affordable. I think most items are less than $10. It's a fun store to poke around in, and their inventory changes regularly.
