I was a diehard fan of Bluestone Lane back when they first opened in the NYC and Australian breakfasts of smashed avocado toasts and flat whites were all the rage. But the service here on a recent trip really soured the memory. Our first visit, we stopped by to grab an espresso for our walk; as we were heading back, I wanted to stop by and grab a soda only to be told loudly by this one waitress, "We're closed." It was 5:01, which, fair enough, they close at 5. But she gave us this odd condescending smile that I brushed off as a one-off and possibly me being weird. Then the next day, we stopped by again with a friend. We were a bit indecisive as to whether we were going to order any food and/or take it to go or order it at one of the outside tables. In the end, we decided to just get some coffee and pastries to eat at the hotel but at one point, the same waitress as the day before very visibly rolled her eyes. I guess at the inconvenience of dealing with our dilly dallying. I got the distinct impression she was seconds away from complaining about us as soon as we turned our backs. Whatever. A comically absurd amount of other options within walking distance to not have to put up with the rudeness here. Plus, the chocolate croissant was horrible - stale, barely any chocolate, tasteless. I went in this morning and bought an iced latte and a piece of banana bread. I generally do not leave tips for baristas because the tip comes before the service, and that does not make sense to me. The barista/server watched what I typed in and saw that I left no tip, and I noticed the look on her face change. Ordinarily would not complain about something like this but I've been here for morning coffee a dozen times after dropping my son off for practice as Asphalt Green and I won't be back after today. For what it's worth, I liked this place because it's open early and the coffee is a solid "good." Not remarkable, but fits squarely within the tier of quality that is slightly better than Starbucks but not anything memorable. Like, a solid B+ coffee shop. Today I came in as I usually do with my 20oz Yeti and ordered a large. Today the guy tells me they're large as are only 16 oz, so would a partial pour be okay. I just wanted coffee so I rolled my eyes inside and said sure. But something about seeing a mug that looked 2/3 full annoyed the sh*t out of me. That's entirely a me problem but still, I can't imagine they would lose more money by giving me *4oz* of coffee (e.g. not liquid gold) vs what they're saving on the price of the printed cup and lid. But I'm polite so I turned around and ordered a small so I could fill my mug, make myself happy, and have a little extra coffee. I was content to follow the rules, be nice about it, and just never come back to a place that's going to nickel-&-dime me over some hot water and probably 4 beans worth of coffee. The reason I'm publicly airing this is because after all that, my final sip from my mug was straight up a mouthful of sludgy grinds. It was so much (I took a big sip) that I almost gagged at the dog park and hand to walk home with a dry mouth full of coffee grinds. Check out the aftermath of my mug in the photo. So my advice to this place is to learn to thread the needle between a little goodwill that will invest in customer retention and being an absolute cheapskate who happens to not really train their people on basic quality control. Good luck but your coffee isn't any different than any of the other 600 places downtown who charge $4-5 for a cup of drip, so I'll say it was nice-ish while it lasted. read more

I came in a large group and got some fries. The fries had no flavor whatsoever. I added salt and pepper but it could not redeem the dish. The fries come with a side of ketchup and a white unidentified sauce that is watery and also does not have flavor. I had other friends who ordered fries and did not finished them either. The cafe manager promptly removed our dishes as soon as we finished eating which was rude. Considering that you pay beforehand, that was not needed since the cafe was not even full. The scone was so dry that the texture tasted like saw dust in my mouth... It was NOT light and fluffy, and definitely DID NOT have a rich savory cheddar cheese flavor. We came here for breakfast, and I tried: +the Avocado Smash - with sheep's milk feta, heirloom tomatoes, and herbs on a toasted multigrain; definitely would have to consume this right away as the toast can get soggy after a while; the ingredients were fresh +the Magic - a less diluted version of a flat white, this was prepared with two shots of espresso with steamed milk and a micro foam; this was nice and strong a good pick-me-up in the morning Service was a little slow and there didn't seem any sense of urgency. I opted for an Avocado Smash with a side of bacon and the hubby ordered the B.L.A.T.E.; consisting of bacon, lettuce (arugula), avocado, tomato, and an egg on a brioche. Hubby was stuffed for hours. My Avocado Smash came with bacon on top although I wanted it as a side. Not a problem, I just slid them off. The portion was huge and they were not cheap with the avocado; huge plus. I had a harder time slicing into the toast but over it was super fulfilling. I also ordered the vanilla oat latte which seemed like a pre-made/pre-packaged coffee. Although it did the job, it didn't quite hit the spot like a fresh made latte. Service was friendly. You can see the servers double check the food prior to it going out to the customers. The flat white? I honestly thought it might be made with magic. If coffee could give you a hug, this would be it. The baristas? Absolute legends. I think one of them might actually be a wizard. It came with some salad and some nice tangy dressing. And the chamomile tea was real loose leaf chamomile. The service is great! 3.5 stars. The business model here is pretty simple. Good coffee, limited menu, fresh ingredients. They pull it off well. Most dishes are a combinations of breakfast items (eggs and bacon, toast) plus some greens. This can be in various forms including avocado toast or bowls. This is one of many locations but it's relatively new. They seem to be dealing with Covid well, and we had no safety concerns when we visited. Only minor comments we had about the food were that the amount of greens in the bowl seemed less than other locations (could be because we came near closing), and that the poached eggs were slightly overdone and some parts tasted like there was too much vinegar in the poaching water. But these were not show stoppers by any means. I would certainly return, and I encourage others to go here. read more

Overall this is a good place to meet a friend for coffee or get a little casual work done. The atmosphere is bright and airy (though not very quiet) and the food is fresh. The coffee and hot teas are probably the best reason to come here. I've been 10 or so times since opening to work or to grab a matcha before a walk with a friend. The food is a bit slow but that's fine with me as I've been dining in and working! I would say it's not a place to come if you're in a big rush, but they have been improving on timing since opening. I recommend the plain coffee late, the tumeric health late, and the best friends bowl. (I would order eggs scrambled here for the best experience!) The tables are big and comfortable for both indoor and outdoor seating. Will be back many more times I'm sure! read more

It def tasted more sour than I expected but it was super filling. The chili egg scramble was very interesting combination of items, and was more spicy than I liked.
