I've always had a fear of heights for as long as I can remember and over the past few years it felt like it was escalating to the point where it would hold me back from doing lots of things, which was starting to affect my confidence and turning into a vicious cycle. At the beginning of the year I booked a trip to New York with some girl friends and thought enough's enough! I need to conquer this fear once and for all! we'd planned to do all the classic New York things like the empire state building and Rockerfeller centre and as much as I was looking forward to this trip of a lifetime the thought of all those high up places filled me with dread. Having seen all the amazing reviews on here I decided to book an appointment with Alan. I wasn't sure what to expect as speaking to friends and family I got a mixed response when telling them I was going for hypnotherapy, as some people (mistakenly) think it's some kind of hippy alternative placebo thing. They could not be more wrong. I found Alan to be really friendly and approachable, very easy to talk to and non judgemental. I was a bit nervous on my first session but he soon put me at ease. I had three sessions in total but could have got away with two, I chose to have the third to give me an extra boost before my trip. The second session was definitely the breakthrough for me, the experience was quite profound and emotional. The actual hypnotherapy part of the session is very relaxing, I was given a recording prior to the first session so I knew what to expect, and after each session Alan gave me a cd to listen to and practice the techniques used in the session. I can imagine hypnotherapy would be useful for just about anything in life, the techniques are similar to mindfulness which seems to be getting quite a lot of press recently. If everyone used these techniques the world would be a lot less stressful place! I should point out I noticed a difference after just one session, my first target was to go up the spinnaker tower, I had always been to afraid to even attempt it but after my first session I felt ready to try it. I found I wasn't even nervous on the day I went up there, and at first felt fine, after a while those familiar anxieties started to creep back but I used my calming techniques and managed to keep the feelings under control. I didn't manage to walk on the glass floor which I was a bit disappointed about but after my second session I felt ready to try again and this time I stood and walked on the glass floor! It was still a bit scary but I guess that's natural and I managed to control my anxieties and felt absolutely great afterwards I just thought, bring on the empire state building! About a month later I went to New York and had an amazing time, I went up the empire state building and Top of the Rock, I didn't feel nervous about doing it and once up there I felt surprisingly calm and in control without any of the fear symptoms I used to experience. The fear was still there but it was under control and not holding me back from doing things that I can now rationalise to be perfectly safe and enjoyable experiences. I can't recommend Bluewater Hypnotherapy enough, I now feel I have the confidence to do lots more things that I would've completely written off beforehand, and I know that if those feelings do start to return I have the tools to deal them and I only have to listen to the CDs again to reinforce what I've learnt. So if you're thinking about having hypnotherapy just go for it! Life's too short to let fears, anxiety or anything else hold you back! read more

I sought help from Alan after having what I described as past trust/jealousy issues that were rearing their ugly head in my present relationship with my partner. Alan who has a demeanour which puts you at ease instantly also provides a relaxing atmosphere where the hypnotherapy session takes place. This allowed me openly discuss my situation where I felt comfortable. Alan has excellent listening skills and therefore really does tailor each session. It was realised that my situation was stemming from inner confidence issues and it was such a relief feeling understood and knowing that I was able to do something about it with Alan's help. I describe the hypnotherapy sessions as focused on deeply relaxing the mind and body allowing you time out from day to day life to sit back, close your eyes and really relax whilst listening to the suggestions given. You are aware of what is going on at all times. I would say it will be beneficial if you are fully committed as Alan is in seeing your situation through. To date I have had 4 sessions and I feel like I have taken a huge step forward from where I was about a month ago. I am far more relaxed and confident with myself as well as in my relationship reducing friction. And also it has had a positive knock on effect to almost every other aspect of my life such as work. I'm not living my life in the past or worrying about what hasn't happened yet but living in the now. I started hypnotherapy with Alan approx 6 weeks ago and since then I have never looked back. I cannot thank Alan enough for how I have changed as a person. I started this because of an ongoing roller coaster ride of weight gain and weight loss and since working with Alan I have lost weight, gained bags of confidence and totally change my life sytle views and choices with such a confidence its unbelievable. I have been to see Alan for two different things in the last few months and have conquered challenges I didn't think possible. The first occasion was just before I was due to fly to Australia on my own normally I experience panic attacks when flying so the prospect of a long haul flight on my own was petrifying me and instead of looking forward to a trip of a lifetime I was dreading it. Alan had been recommended to me, and I felt completely at ease from the moment I met him. By the time I flew a few days later I felt more than ready to take on this flight! There arent enough words to describe what Alan has done for me, I came to him around 6 or 7 weeks ago an absolute wreck had had my heartbroken in such a disasterous way and it had hit me hard i had hit my rock bottom and needed to climb back up again. I had real problems with my confidence, blushing constantly throughout the day and it just got to the point where I was blushing talking to work colleagues that I've known for years and even family and friends. so I thought I'd give hypnotherapy a try. For eleven years, following a couple of bad experiences, my life has been dominated by my unreasonable fear of flying which is a necessary part of my job. Things had become so bad that I found it upsetting to look at images of the interior of aircraft and could only board with a feeling of abject terror and a heavy dose of medication. Two sessions with Alan have now completely resolved the situation I have just completed two 12 hour flights in 6 days without the slightest concern. Well it's been 48 days and i'm still a non-smoker! Alan made it such an easy relaxing experience to kick the habit it's amazing! Whats shocked me the most is I can be around smokers now without even noticing what they're doing. A few hours after my session a friend of mine lit up in front of me and i didn't even notice what she'd done before she started apologising for rubbing it in my face that she was still a smoker, I laughed and felt really smug to finally be a non-smoker! I have to admit that I was a little sceptical about hypnotherapy. I had tried counselling but my issues still remained and I had found the sessions very difficult. I decided to try hypnotherapy with Alan after hearing positive results from a friend. I was impressed at Alan's professional and calm manner and I have never felt so relaxed before. The sessions helped me to deal with negative thinking, self-esteem, confidence and trust issues which were affecting my relationships and general life. i was very sceptical about 'hypnotherapy' as i honestly believed it was mumbo-jumbo but i was really having trouble sleeping and all the doctor wanted to do was put me on some sleep disorder pills (which turned out to be anti-depressants), i was reluctant to take them but needded sssllleeepppppp. So i swallowed my sceptisim and went and after the first visit i was already sleeping better, after 4 visits i am back to sleeping really well, though still have the odd episode. I had sessions with alan as I had issues with socialising in unfamiliar groups and confidence. He listened to my concerns and made me feel totally at ease with this new experience. After only 2 sessions I was feeling the benefits. At one stage in my life I would lack confidence in going out and socialising and now I dont even think about it. Alan came recommended however I was nervous and a little sceptical, no need at all as I was very quickly put at ease and alan explained the format of the session. I was not a natural candidate for hypnotherapy as I saw it as a bit `alternative` but my IBS issues were such that I was willing to try anything.
