I wish I had done more research. Both individuals that referred me to him were men. He is a screamer and has a huge ego. He did both my feet. On the right, for the most part it healed well. They wrapped one toe so tight that it did not allow for swelling and sticks up now. The second foot was not done the same. I am not able to put my big toe down on the floor and it hurts to walk. I was told it was my imagination the last time I saw him. He also "patted himself on the back" for doing such a good job...I kid you not. When he left the medical room when I last saw him, he left the medical table elevated (with me on it), the boot across the room and walked out and closed the door. I had to jump down and walk to get my boot on newly operated feet. And two appointments ago, he screamed at me for walking on my heel to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It was so awful that I thought it was some sort of joke. I have since met two other women who had to go to different doctors to get their feet fixed after he operated on them. I'm hoping that I don't have to redo my left foot. UGH. read more

I had surgery for the third time with Dr Bob Baravarian on June 7, 2024. This time bunion surgery on my left foot. It is 6 weeks post op and I'm out of the boot, and the incision has healed fantastically. The toe is straight. Minimal pain post op and no pain at all after the first week. I cannot comment on any negative reviews other than to say please don't let those few deter you. Best doctor and surgeon ever! He repaired 3 tendons in my left ankle in 2020. I am running and have full function, and I have no doubt that I'll be running again as soon as Dr Bob tells me I can. I am 62 and a diabetic. His care for his patients is beyond. When I go in for surgery with him, I have ZERO anxiety because I know how masterful he is. Yes, he's busy. He doesn't need to spend hours with you. Not good. I was really unhappy with my experience with the actual doctor. As many others say, the doctor must have been in the room with me no more than 2 minutes. That is not okay. Did not care to answer my questions. I felt dismissed and hurried and unimportant. He prescribed PT and said that he would send me referrals for PT, but never did. In the waiting room I waited for a long time. I was given an iPad to check myself in and the process was very long - I had to answer many questions that had nothing to do with my injury or anything that feels remotely related to podiatry. It felt like busy work to do during the long wait. Additionally, the iPad was difficult to use and I had to ask the receptionist several questions. The ironic part is that I was on crutches, so carrying an iPad back and forth to the desk while I didn't have the use of my hands was really inconvenient and frustrating. Dr. Bob really is the best foot surgeon in town. I really can't say enough about the man and his work. I had 3 procedures on my left foot and 1 procedure on my right. Two surgeries back-to-back, 1 month apart. Dr. Bob took the time to answer every question and even had a 'fan base' at the surgery center. Right before my first surgery, a pre-op nurse raved about his work. A confidence builder for sure! I was ready for surgery. Before both surgeries, Dr. Bob would pop his head in, smile and, like a friend he'd ask, "How are you doing?" Just that simple question let me know that I wasn't just another foot coming through, but that I was an actual human being who might be a little scared. I was seen. This simple moment allowed me to feel calm and ready for surgery. Post surgery, I took all of his advice and moved onto physical therapy. And there, I listened to the amazing physical therapist, Lydia Salinas, and graduated from physical therapy an entire month early. I had 2 huge bunions on my feet, and damaged ligaments, plus a loose ankle on the left foot. Now, I'm hiking and running (when I need to lol) and feeling great! A positive experience overall. His office is so dialed in, that I can not get past 1 page in whatever magazine I try to read before I get called in. Dr. Baravarian performed surgery on my foot to cure me from Morton's Neuroma. A very painful condition that troubled me for years. The surgery went really well, and I could not be more thankful to be rid of the pain I endured for way too long. Very upset, post surgery has not gone well - I had ankle surgery with dr Baravarian about 6 years ago, I now live in Toronto Canada -- the last 3 years I have had complications with the ankle that underwent surgery, lots of nerve pain and discomfort. I've tried psychical therapy and acupuncture, ointments - nothing works so after years of pain and suffering and being away from Los Angeles enough is enough I would like to speak to the office and gather my medical documents so that I can see a doctor here. It's not getting better and I just find a resolution immediately. This is all Very frustrating- something feels wrong in the affected ankle it's very tender and it hurts to walk up stairs-- and I've had custom orthotics ever since surgery. Last time I went in complaining of paint dr Baravarian brushed me off and said everything was fine and it is in fact not ok . Dr Baravarian was very rushed and barely gave me the attention I needed. Not satisfied with the service or the practice. I urgently need help me get the information and x rays etc I need to get a check up with a Doctor in my new city. This facility does not have proper equipment to get Xrays from different angles of the Foot and you can easily be misdiagnosed, like I was. Came in to get treatment for severe pain on my fifth toe due to an injury. I was shocked to receive 2 minutes of his care (I was his first patient of that morning, no excuse). Even worse, he rapidly concluded that I didn't have any fracture on my toe.... oh and if I did have one it was a "Hair line fracture" , he said. Turns out I actually have a transverse fracture. Podiatrists do not go to traditional medical school. Orthopedists do. If you want a real doctor to diagnose you, please see an orthopedist. Against my desire, I spent $500 for stiff orthotics with Dr. Baravarian that made my foot hurt even more. I told him (in our very brief first appointment) that I did not believe in orthotics and had tried them to no avail before. I'm young, I've been running competitively for 15 year with no biomechanical issues -- why would I suddenly want to introduce an orthotic that changes my entire running form? I wore them for one hour as suggested and my foot was literally throbbing by the end. We also probably spent NO MORE THAN TWO MINUTES collectively in the exam room across THREE APPOINTMENTs. This place has the feel of a money making farm where giving patients the time of day does not matter. I read other reviews like this but decided to give it a try regardless. I wish I hadn't. Try to get him to spend more than TWO MINUTES in the room with you. Literally two minutes. I dare you. Or, better yet, go see an orthopedist. read more

I need to give a negative review. Dr. Baravarian is clearly smart but service is lacking. I needed an Achilles amniotic fluid injection which is state of the art, but I wasn't provided any specific directions for after care and I wasn't told what to expect. For example, he advised a boot but didn't provide one. Given the cost he could at least provided a boot. He was very rushed and didn't really want to take time to answer questions. The injection was expensive but unfortunately and I am worse than before the injection. That isn't Dr. Baravarian's fault because there are no guarantees in medicine. Even so, I'm seeing another podiatrist and hoping for a better outcome. The foot and ankle institute is all about selling and marketing. Just check out the website. The combination of marketing emphasis, rushed appointments, and lack of specific after care instructions are evidence that the business matters more than the person. read more

I saw Dr. Baravarian after rupturing my left Achilles tendon (at the age of 74). He recommended surgery, for reasons that he carefully explained, and performed the operation four weeks ago. The surgery was completely successful, and in a couple of weeks I will progress from a non-weight-bearing cast to a walking boot. I'm going to start by saying I really don't like my feet. It's not one of the better features that I was born with. I have bunions on both feet so I never wear sandals. I was referred to Dr Bob by my manicurist of all things. One of her customers had her bunion done and did a great job. I had my right foot done on October 1st. I now have one super sexy foot and can't wait to get my left one done. Seriously, my right foot looks amazing. He did such a beautiful job and I can't wait to wear sandals so that I can show it off. I tore my Achilles tendon while playing basketball. I went to the Foot & Ankle Institute (Granada Hills) office and they referred me to Dr. Bob in the Sherman Oaks office. He saw me and scheduled my surgery. It has been almost two months now. Surgery went perfect. Recovery has been almost perfect. I do have some pain but I am starting Physical therapy today. He is very knowledgeable and answers all your questions. I highly recommend him. The only issue I had was with billing. I had to pre-pay my insurance portion before surgery. That was not an issue. But then I was charged an additional amount for "deposit" at the Sherman Oaks office even though I had already paid my portion in full. I hope to see that deposit back at some point. read more

I don't write a lot of reviews but after a few years have now past after having not the best experience with Dr Baravarian, and now with an actual deformed foot, I feel obligated to. About 2 years ago, I went to Dr Baravarian on the recommendation of a friend to fix a bunion surgery that I had with another foot doctor. Who knew that I would now be in much much worse condition. I thought things were going to be awesome as he is perfectly nice but things didn't go as planned. After my scheduled surgery to fix my very common bunion issue, I awoke from anesthesia to be informed that they did not, in fact, do the surgery that I paid for, but due to some arthritis in my foot, they fixed that instead. I do appreciate him recognizing that something else is wrong and making a decision to do what is necessary at the time while I am unconscious but I want to be fully honest that after whatever was done (or not done), I am now is much much worse shape. My big toe is still swollen 2 years later and has actually SHRUNK and my second toe is now completely deformed, both bent inward and now significantly longer than the rest of my toes, likely from having to overcompensate for the big toe. The rest of my three toes are completely numb, although I am not sure of that is related. My biggest concern is the deformity of my second toe as I am completely embarrassed by it. Now that it is summer and time for open toe shoes, the visual deformity is actually what is bothering me the most over any discomfort which I have learned to grin and bear. My left toe bed hideous-looking and one thing that I love in life is wearing heels, which now I have not in 2 years because of the pain coupled with not needing to wear heels much in the last year and a half with Covid. But even my athletic shoes hurt and I can't do any exercises where I need to have my toes flexed under me which is a lot of things that I can longer do. I cannot do many yoga poses, and most sadly, I cannot go surfing anymore because I can't flex my toe bed to push up on the surfboard. If you are a very active person and now what you enjoy most in life is being taken away, well that is worth a review, even 2 years later. Also, since the surgery, I can no longer balance at all on my left foot. I can hardly do anything on one foot anymore which is very very sad to a fitness person. I had several follow up appointments to express my concerns which at the time were mainly the swelling never going down even months later. He didn't seem to have an answer to help me figure out next steps which is a real shame. Now, I am going to need to see a third foot doctor to see if anything is salvageable. The whole situation has put me in a bad depression. Additionally, separate from the actual foot issues, be prepared to be upsold on some additional bone marrow "add on" that insurance doesn't not cover that apparently makes you heal faster. It did nothing for me and I wasted $1000 (or maybe it was actually $1500) out of pocket on this. Also, they made me purchase an $80 tin CBD muscle rub to help with recovery but FYI, it is available on Amazon as well a directly from the company website for $24.99. All-around a bad experience for me personally so I wanted to share so please just do your own research. To leave something positive, I am giving 2 stars for the efficient office. My appointments were always on time and I didn't have any billing issues which is always nice in a time where you can lose hours dealing with billing issues. read more

Dr. Bob is simply the best. I am Only 38 years old and I had painful bunions on both of my feet. I was worried to have surgery on my feet being this young and not being able to run again. Another podiatrist told me that if I got surgery on them they may even hurt worse after. I met with Dr. Bob, he came so highly reviewed that I thought I would give him a shot. I am so glad I did. I had the 1st foot done and there was virtually no pain- a few weeks later I did the 2nd foot and again no pain. My feet feel better than ever and they do not hurt at all. A week ago, this guy told me there were two OPTIONAL procedures (with some fancy technical names) that he highly recommended to go along with the foot surgery he recommended. I needed the surgery to deal with the pains being caused by a deformity.  He said the two optional procedures were not covered by any insurance, and if I wanted them, I would have to pay out of pocket.  Later that day, I researched those optional procedures, and the next day at 10:47 a.m., I emailed his very nice surgical staff and told her I did not want the two optional procedures.  The surgical staff did not object to my opting out, and she continued to set up the steps needed for the upcoming surgery (e.g. covid test, blood labs, EKG...etc).  I thought all was good to go, and I did the labs, EKG, covid test, took time off work, told my spouse to take time off...etc.  Four days later, at the pre-op appt, which was merely two days before the scheduled surgery, this guy said to me that he absolutely would not do the needed surgery (two days later), unless I paid $1500 for one of the two once-optional procedures.  WTF? And, if I canceled the surgery now, the pre-op paperwork I had just signed stated I would be charged a cancellation fee.  That afternoon, I double-confirmed with the very nice surgical staff that the guy really would not do the surgery, unless I paid him $1500 for the now-suddenly-mandatory procedure. She confirmed. I then formally asked for a fee waiver, due to my disabled veteran status.  It was politely denied by the nice lady (who told me that the doc would not waive it).  I also formally asked to pay a reduced fee of $200 (pretty much like paying a ransom just to get my surgery done without further ado).  It was also politely denied by the nice lady (citing that the doctor would not accept a penny less). I felt like my health, my years of pain, and my continued suffering were being medically blackmailed for the amount of $1500 (+the written threat of a cancellation fee). How did this once optional procedure (not covered by any insurance), over the course of a week, suddenly become a required procedure, just two days before the scheduled surgery? I showed the nice lady a draft of the above review for comments, and she explained politely that it was just one big misunderstanding /miscommunication. She then said the $1500 fee had since been waived. While I do appreciate the belated fee waiver and still want the pain gone (surgically or otherwise), I really don't want it done by this guy. Unfortunately (for me), the trust is gone forever. Update: Seriously, Doc? You were indignant that I asked you to release the hostage (my health) without charging me a $1500 medical-ransom? Do you really need money that bad, Doc? Guys, if you feel/felt that scare-tactic is/was used on you (e.g., "high risk if you don't pay extra") to strong-arm you into paying (out of pocket) for expensive "optional" procedures, then you know who is telling the truth. read more

I am so disappointed with Dr. Baravarian and his office. I ordered two pairs of orthotics and specified that one of them would be for my everyday athletic shoes and one of them would be go into my everyday pair of dance shoes. Instead Dr. Baravarian delivered one set of orthotics that was way too wide to fit into my already wide everyday Asics tennis shoes and rushed me through my appointment until I stood my ground and waited in the hallway and insisted he come back in the room and explain to me why my feet just don't feel right in the Orthotics. He said he didn't know and suggested I come back and meet with Kevin, the manufacturer who made them. The other set he delivered was much much too large and thick for my dance shoes and stuck out on all sides and was way too bulky for me to even put my foot into in the shoes . He told me that I should just wear them in my boots and other dress shoes. I told him that not only do I seldom wear other dress shoes, but I don't need orthotics for those and I ordered these specifically for my dance shoes. That was the point of my visit. Needless to say, I refused to take home the orthotics. Right before my eventual appointment with the Kevin, I received a message that the appointment had been cancelled because Kevin was suddenly out of town -- or at least it was told to me last minute. Then when I finally re-made the 2nd appointment and showed up and waited for a half hour for Kevin, Kevin just never showed up. He later personally texted me and apologized and came to my house instead. He confirmed that the orthotics Dr. Baravarian made would not fit in my dance shoes and he would not be able to make a pair thin enough to fit in a pair of dance shoes. At that point, I said, fine, I would just like a refund, to which Kevin responded, "Dr. Baravarian does not give refunds." I said something like, " Well this patient doesn't pay for things she didn't order." Nevertheless, I said that in the interest of maintaining a good relationship with this company, I will let Kevin know if I need any other kind of orthotic in the near future and if not, then I would ask for a refund. He said that would be fine. Sure enough, I have no other orthotic needs other than my everyday walking shoes and my dance shoes so I texted Kevin that I would like a refund. He never responded and when I ran into him a little while later at Whole Foods, he sheepishly looked away from me. I immediately called Dr. Baravarian's office and explained the situation. They said they would speak with him and call me back. They never did. I called again and explained the situation again. They told me they would call me back. They never did. I left two more voice messages. They have officially never responded, never returned my call, and I am still not in possession of the orthotics that I never ordered. read more

At my second visit he gave me considerable time helping me obtain the orthotic that will reduced the pain in my foot. Other podiatrists have told me that they could not help me. I realized that I made a mistake in my earlier review and will gladly admit it. I have confidence in him and believe he truly believes he can help me. His attitude and professional skill is an important consideration in selecting a doctor. I highly recommend him. Dr. Baravarian is a great doctor. I have struggled with foot issues for months and seen many of the top doctors in LA. Another doctor told me he thought I had a pinched nerve and a little bit of online research lead me to Dr. Baravarian as being an expert in this area. I was able to get an appointment with him that very day. His office staff was really friendly and the office was particularly clean. Dr. Baravarian really took his time and listened to all my concerns and took a look at medical exams I had had and did a few repeat exams. He told me he was quite sure that I did not have a pinched nerve and wanted me to take it really slow and let my body heal on its own. This was a welcome relief from the previous doctor who had wanted to do surgery. What I really loved is that Dr. Baravarian gave me his email and told me to email him before I tried anything new. So if I was unsure about anything from a new pair of shoes to more exercise I could email him and usually he would respond within minutes. This was incredibly helpful since I was so sensitive and unsure of what I could and could not do. We ultimately feel it was a bone bruise and tendonitis and it was 11 months with altered foot wear and exercise. He put me in a strict physical therapy regimen and I truly believe that is what has helped me to heal. I am so grateful for his patience and guidance. Unquestionably The Best I am a 62 year old mountain climber and I ruptured my Achilles tendon. Due to my insurance, treatment was delayed for almost a year. Most of the doctors I visited were very negative about my prognosis. Dr Baravarian was not. My Achilles was a complete write off so he had to perform a flexor tendon transfer. The end result couldn't have been better. Against all odds I was walking in 2 months and back climbing in 4. I experienced ZERO pain or negative aftereffects. His staff and associated PT group are a first rate team. Baravarian provided honest, direct and lucid explanations about the procedure and cooperated with my accelerated rehabilitation process (despite his reservations). Had I been a professional athlete I wouldn't have received better care. It is impossible to rate Dr. Baravarian and his team high enough. read more
