I used the library version of Ancestry, which is a little different from the paid subscription version. Mainly I was looking for various odds and ends. Then I'll be able to take on in-depth research of one or two topics. The computers are timed for one-hour increments but can be extended by a librarian if needed. I was very pleased with today's experience. Looked like there was a history club meeting in progress while I was there. Wow! Definitely a great place to perform research.

The expertise of the Fort Worth History Center's staff and their willingness to help are at the top of the libraries in the state. Their archival holdings are outstanding for a municipal library and many are digitized. The building is well-lighted and equipped with a number of computers for public use, a lighted magnification machine, a scanner with email service, and more. I am particularly familiar with Tarrant County, Texas private and public archives where I live and regard the Fort Worth History Center as an essential stop for any local county and city research. Also, they have extensive genalogical holdings by Texas counties and other states that are helpful to those doing genealogical and/or historical research. It is a pleasure to walk into the Center and to use their resources.

(The park is across the street from the community center.) There is a playground for children, and the grounds are well maintained. Some day, I'll have to check out what is offered inside. Since childhood I have always been a fan of libraries and book stores. I hadn't heard of this…read morelocation so I went to check it out. This location is on the smaller side with a small amount of parking spaces. Even though it's located in Fort Worth this library has a small town feel to it. There's a nice brick courtyard nearby surrounded by shade trees, it looks really nice over there. The Ella Mae Shamblee location has a much smaller book selection that a lot of the other branches but I really liked their biography section a lot. There aren't many desks, armchairs and computer stations like at some of the other locations.

My one-star rating is due to the customer service I received during my recent visit. I had several…read moreitems on hold that needed to be retrieved from the back. The staff member repeatedly stated that my items were not available simply because they were not on the shelves, even though they were in fact being held for me. Another staff member later came out to add items to the shelves. I located all of my items immediately, which confirmed that the holds were indeed there. After retrieving my items, the employee stated I could check them out and directed me to handle the checkout myself. I refused to walk over to scan my card and check myself out. Especially, while I'm standing directly in front of an employee who has refused to get up once to look for my items or assist me in a timely manner. Given the circumstances, I expected at least a basic level of service. I have been a patron of the Fort Worth Public Library for many years. I've never had an issue with a staff member until now. This was my first interaction with this particular staff member. If she is assigned to this branch location, I hope she learns to be more professional!
