I had dinner here recently with four friends. The place is a casual and friendly bar, with a food menu strong on burgers and sandwiches. I ordered the Weezesteak ($13), their version of a Philly cheesesteak. One of my friends had a Reuben sandwich. Both sandwiches came cut in half, so we each had half of each sandwich. I had a late lunch here with my dog. The place has a dog-friendly patio that made me want to try this place out. It is not a big place. The front end is a horseshoe shaped sports bar. I sat outside on the west patio off Tucson Blvd. Service was prompt and my chicken sandwich came out hot within minutes and was brought to me by the friendly fry cook. He was more attentive toward me than my server, so kudos to him. I had a side salad with my sandwich and together it was a very filling meal. Bob Dobbs has friendly service and reasonable prices (at least for drinks). It is a small establishment, but has a little outdoor seating area too. We did not eat, but we stopped for a drink on a Friday evening while it was reasonably busy it wasn't packed. The server was quick to greet us and take our order as well as serve us our drinks. This iconic bar was our hangout in graduate school. So for my reunion, I had to come back and visit while I was in town. I was surprised to see the same manager is working here! Wow! They have since changed their ceiling tiles. They're so clean and new. They also added more TVs and karaoke on Saturday nights. I was happy they have a game day menu for food as we were in the mood for some snacks. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich w fries and the fried zucchini. Everything was gobbled up! So good. We ordered shots and beers and cocktails. Service was great. Prices are good. Karaoke is free. Watched the end of the U of A football game. Such a good time. Outdoor seating available. Classic hole in the wall. This place really hit the spot for what we wanted tonight though. We had just finished up rock climbing indoors down the street and needed something low key with good burgers and decent taps. This place has about 8 beers on tap but it was fine since they offer good beers (dragoon is nice and I enjoyed the Sierra Nevada pilsner). This place offers happy hour every day. Brownie points although we had just missed it. The menu consists of bar food and sandwiches. I went with the Baja Burger, which consisted of pepper jack, avocado, Baja sauce with my chosen side of onion rings. Boyfriend did the same but with a side of fries. The burgers were great! Cooked to order and just really hit the spot. I really liked the fries - they were salty and crispy. The Baja sauce has a nice bite to it which was a nice addition to the burger. Feel good space with sprawling writings all over the place. Fun reading. 6. Parking is always available either along the curb on Sixth Street, or in the rear. I find that the burgers are consistent and on point. Never have I had an over or undercooked burger. Their fries are the right width and length and without being over-seasoned. And I find that the service is generally attentive and swift. And my absolute favorite? To visit on a cool night, early in the evening, just as dusk is setting in. Came in here because the restaurant next door had few gluten free options and this place said they had gluten free hamburger buns. We sat down and were immediately greeted and our drink order taken. When the drinks came we said we hadn't decided yet on what to order. "No problem, I'll come back in a few" the girl said. The first time I went here was about an hour before a UA game. It was load, the service was poor, the staff was practically scowling, and they were understaffed. I decided to not write a review at that time to give them a fair shake. I went back a couple of days ago and was very disappointed. It is the second trip that I will be the focus of this review. The food was bar food and nothing that would draw me back. It did come out pretty quick though. The place is really small but it does have a few tables outside if you want to enjoy the Tucson evenings. I sat at the bar but could not figure out the staffing. There were a couple of people there, but they kept running back and forth to tables and the bar. It seemed like no one was in charge of the bar. In fact, I could not discern any sort of pattern (i.e. what server was in charge of what tables or stools at bar). Because both servers were running around everywhere, everyone was getting sub-standard service. This is a management problem that needs to be addressed. Most establishments have charts to indicate which servers are responsible for which tables. They have different charts for busier times when there are more servers. This was chaotic. It was probably because of the chaos that the servers are unhappy and taking it out on the patrons. Service is of primary importance for me when I spend my hard earned money. If an establishment doesn't take care of its customers, they will pay the price. I for one will not be going back and advice all my friends to avoid it too. read more

My kind of place. I went to the bar to check out what beers they had, and get an ice tea for the cousin. Some old guy sitting next to where I stood said, you should try what I'm having. (He named it; I've since forgotten the name.) I looked at his glass. It appeared to be an ale. "Pretty good, is it?" "Real good. You want to try it?" Yes, he offered me a taste of his. Yes, I drank. Waited at the door for minutes while the girl just stared lol, so we sat ourselves and waited 5 mins for 2 menus, while there was only 4 people sitting at the bar no one else there, didn't get any refills on water or anything else. The search is finally over! It was inevitable to find a random bar spot in Tucson that had a perfect storm of bad food and worse service. A burger and fries from this spot is so salty it'll make you wonder if you're about to have a heart attack on the way home. At the same moment your stomach will feel like you just ate a dead crow in the streets. The waiter had a pulse and looked human, but was actually a phantom that was never really there. An extra star than what this place deserves because of the cheap and strong drinks. Blows my mind how busy it was despite how pissed everyone was at the service. What is there to say about Bob Dobbs..... is really like to give it 3.5 stars but I gave it 4 instead of 3. You kind of know what you're getting at BD's..... here's the skinny..... Parking is easy. Location is great. Patio is wonderful during cooler months. Food is good but burgers can be overcooked. They're still good. Service is..... a lower priority. Not bad. Not great. Just ok. Bathrooms are bar bathrooms. Prices are fair. Cleanliness is ok. Not dirty. Just kind of ok. You come here for the people. It's the Cheers of Tucson. Game day mad house. If there are many games going on that night, multiple tvs will be on for your entertainment. They are not very speedy with their service so you sit down for like 10 mins without being served; bare with it. I had the Portabella Mushroom Sandwich which was like a Portabella Burger. Along side, you can choose a side and I chose hand cut fries. They were not the best fries in town but they were pretty okay. Came down to UofA Homecoming and decided to pop into Bob Dobbs. It was one of my friend's favorite spots to go to when we were in college, so we decided to reminisce about the good old days there. I have to say, after all these years, Bob Dobbs is still a pretty great place to go. We went on a Saturday night so there was karaoke going on all night, and believe me, the crowd was INTO IT!! Everyone was singing and laughing; the atmosphere was so light and free that you couldn't help but to belt along with the crowd. Even better, drinks are cheap!! I think a pitcher of a Northern Californian beer ran us $9/pitcher (4 glasses - a little over $2 a piece is a steal!). The only pitfalls are 1) the food sucks, but you don't come to a place like this for the food, so I shouldn't be surprised; and 2) there are only 2 unisex bathrooms, so after a full night of college kids (and alumni) boozing, the bathrooms are less than to be desired. However, the atmosphere is so chill that you can't help but to have a good time here so I definitely plan to make another pit-stop into the Dobbs next time I am in Tucson :) read more
