How could she spend more on her bike than on her car? I didn't understand at all, nor did I understand what the big deal was, why the tears and the long face, if it was me I'd be sulking over knackering up my front end by smashing it into a tree on a cross country type bike ride and having to pay for it. She was scared to death that the integrity of her 'baby' had been compromised. The money was no object, just the quality of the service and repair. Alright then, catch you later, let me know how it goes, I called to her only to realise I was being dragged into the car with her. Damn. The three of us, me, she and the bike pull up at Bikology, it doesn't look much from the outside, but I was assured this was the place to go. Again with the cuddling of the bike, we wander in and are greeted by a smiley chappy who seemed to telepathically sense my friend's utter sense of loss. Taking it off her, they both engaged in mutual admiration of the bike, sorry Marin. He feels her pain, says it'll take a while, but it's totally fixable, he can have it as good as new. She asks a pitiful "do you promise?", followed by more reassurances. A few days later, we return, the bike looks all pretty again, and she seemed super pleased. It was a lot of money in my opinion, but again I was reassured this was a bargain, and after a test ride, she swore it was worth every penny. So excellent place to go if you've got a two wheeled treasure in sincere need of some TLC.

So if you're thinking of setting yourself up on two wheels, or have an old bike that needs repairing, this emporium of all things bike is a must-visit. With new and custom build bikes at competitive prices, a workshop for servicing and repairs and friendly, knowledgeable staff, you feel that you're getting real advice to suit your needs here, rather than the hard sell you'd get at a larger chain store. For the more seasoned cyclists they do a 'bike MOT' from £30, and the fact that they also service unicycles reminds you, in case you forget, that you are in Hyde Park after all...

Specialist shops like this are always going to cost a bit to shop in, but I was pleasantly surprised to get a decent bike in the for about £200. The staff initially appear to be reassuringly knowledgeable, capable and friendly. However, every time I have been in there I have ended up with the same member of staff dealing with me. He appears to be unable to set my gears up right and when I took my bike in for a service and mentioned that they were not right he some how managed to make them worse. I was surprised by this. But they do seem quite busy which might have been the problem? What should be an excellent shop has been marred by of incidents of ineptness; perhaps I just got unlucky?

They are well-stocked with high quality cycling equipment and have a broad range of products for all kinds of cyclists and price-ranges. The shop is a good size and neatly stocked with a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere. They also do a wide range of repair services and the quality of their work can be evidenced by the fact that they also service the bikes of local police and paramedics! I recently bought a bike lock there and they were happy to give honest advice on the quality versus price dilemma, making me feel confident that I'd made the best choice for my budget.

I went to recycle engineering on a Monday. The owner a balding older gentlemen who is usually there…read moredid an assessment of my bike. I just needed my brake cables replaced. He started adding other things on my bike that needed to be fixed, I felt he was trying to hustle me. When the price reached 65 pounds I only had so much money on me, I said "could you not replace one of the brake pads" as I thought I could save some money. I didn't understand that it meant that my brakes wouldn't work if he didn't replace them. He then told me he wouldn't do the job then, because as a responsible bike shop owner and by law I need brakes, I tried to tell him it was a misundsrstanding but he kept just telling me off very rudely in front of two other customers waiting behind me. I really needed my bike fixed for work and had walked it all the way to Kirkstall, then all the way from Kirkstall to Hyde park as I had no functional brakes. I felt very uncomfortable around this guy. I felt he was manipulating me by being aggressive, trying to get the most money out of me and then getting angry when he didn't get his way. The previous time I had come along I wanted to think about for 10 seconds if I could afford a certain tire and I tols him I needed a second think and he said very rude "be quick!" My personal opinion is that he is a narcisistic. My other opinion is that he doesn't know how to talk to customers or speak with respect. I think his shop should get shut down until learns how to treat customers humans. Don't support this man there is plenty of other bike shops in Leeds, where you will leave feeling good about yourself and you won't be treated like less than a person. The best part is now it's a few days later and I went to an honest bike repair guy and he said that he could fix my brake cables for twenty quid, was polite, friendly and said by brake pads were fine and wouldn't effect my brakes. So the recycle engineering guy went on a rant about how because I didn't want my back brajw pads replaced to save 25 quid that I was breaking the law to ride without back breaks. He knew I didn't know that much and was manipulating me in a real nasty way. So greedy. It really makes me sick to see people treat other people like this and take advantage of him. I didn't realize how he was hustling me until after, if I would have realized I would have gave him a piece of my mind in front of everybody.
