Grew up on Bob O Rinos. Haven't been back in a few years up until just a few days ago and it didn't disappoint! If you're in the mood for a good ol classic sub sandwich, make it your life's mission to come check out this spot! My two favorites are the Italian sub and the turkey sub. A large sandwich is HUGE, you can def save the other half for later. My go to is always cheese fries with hot peppers. Something about the combo of the sandwich with the cheese fries and hot peppers is not only delicious but nostalgic for me. If you get it to go, make sure you ask for the cheese and hot peppers on the side. I grew up only less than a block or so away and even in those 5 minutes, the fries always got super soggy. The only downside is it's pretty expensive. The staff is friendly but not the most professional. Then again, they're pretty friendly considering and their sandwiches are #bae, so there's that. Overall solid 4. The bread is really really delicious; soft, crunchy in all the right spots and not to mention, fluffy ::yum:: Bob O Rinos wins me over every time! read more

Bob-O-Rinos is located on Central Ave. (accessible via CTA #85 bus) in Portage Park, near the Community First Medical Center. It has an ample parking, old-schooled comfy booths and cafeteria chairs, and simple yet delicious sandwiches and panini. For $20.86, Rosa J., Daddy J., and Mama J. were able to get two (2) small American subs, one (1) corned beef & Swiss panini, two (2) small Green River fountain pops, and one (1) order of coffee. You better believe that living in a blue-collar lifestyle rocks because that's what we call "great lunch!" Did I mention that they serve RC cola? Daddy J. told me that drinking the RC cola was a luxury in the past back in Taiwan in the 60s and 70s. However, now it's definitely nostalgic. It's funny to see how everything has changed over time... There's a restroom behind the kitchen through the employee entrance. I would say BOR is clean, low-key, and relaxing place to be for a quick meal. Lately I've been back and forth to the Portage Park area frequently to look at some properties I've been interested in, so I will keep Bob-O-Rinos in mind when "Mr. Hunger" rings my doorbell. read more

I finally made it back to Bob-O-Rino's today. It's been long time- too long in fact. I know they're known for their sub sammies, but I remember having a great Italian beef here once and that's what I got today. The beef is served on nice fresh bread and they'll dip it in the juice if you want. The hot giardinara is so good and just hot enough without overpowering the sandwich. The french fries were done almost to perfection; golden and salty goodness in every bite! A big big plus for serving Royal Crown cola as one of their fountain drinks. In a world dominated by Coke and Pepsi, it is indeed a rare treat to find RC offered. The wife had a bowl of broccoli soup (go figure). It was good too, but I come for the sandwiches. I heard there were new owners. It shows. Very dirty counter where food is being handled. Filthy cutting boards with utensils laying around it. The counter by the register was sticky with some kind of fluids sprayed all over. Food is definitely not ever close to what it was. Shame. I love their tuna sub, Italian, chicken salad and all paninis. Their soups are never bad. Portion is always generous. Great people working there too. I've been coming to bob o rinos since they opened. Always great. Today sucked. Slow confused workers don't listen when I asked for no sauce I it has about a gallon of sauce on it. And the meatballs taste like they are a week old. Good bye to another formerly good restaurant. read more

This place has such great food. Granted, I have to been able to bring myself to order anything other than the Reuben so far, but it's absolutely delicious. As is their chicken soup and beef cabbage soup. They deliver via Postmates too which is a bonus but prices are a little less expensive if you order direct & pick it up yourself. ABSOLUTELY delicious. Staff was extraordinarily friendly. We did not realize they were closing in about fifteen minutes(my work partner and I wanted a quick bite to eat). They were cleaning the grills but still let us order hot sandwiches, and fries. Very appreciative of that. Food was so damn good. Best panini I've had in a LONG time. Might have to stop buy every time I'm in the area. Parking lot was also big enough to park the ambulance, so that's a plus!! The gentlemen working on 8/13, you were all wonderful. Like many, I'd driven past Bob-o-rino's several times and always wondered how good their submarines could be. After finishing some work in the area today, I decided to take a chance on the dated sandwich joint. The exterior and signage screams antiquated style, so I didn't expect much different after seeing its indoors. It's a brisk 33 F out today. Many air vents are seen overhead and are distributing heat but it's not focused to any one area. While warmth can be felt, it feels as though a jacket is necessary. Many of the other patrons are still wearing their coats while dining on lunch. The confines are cozy but I'd quickly decided to eat somewhere with ample heating. (While ordering my sandwich I could hear the complaints of staff that the inside temperature was still too cold.) I loathe eating in a cold establishment. Moving on. Looking around, this is a run-of-the-mill sandwich joint. Not to be mistaken with an Italian delicatessen. While it's true that sandwich toppings can be fresh and it's said that bread is baked daily, my bread was day old and required a sturdy bite to tear away portions of sandwich. Take a look at the sandwich pictured on their website. http://www.boborinos.com/ This is not what I unveiled when plating my turkey sandwich. What I unwrapped was an utter mess. What's said to be fresh turkey lacked any flavor of its own. The pilings on of what arrives in the "everything on it" composed of mayonnaise, shredded lettuce, strands of green peppers and red onions, tomatoes, pickles and American cheese was an okay compliment. (Truth be told, American cheese with turkey is how grocery stores make a turkey sandwich. It is cheese but not the best choice for this sandwich) And when requesting "hot peppers" which is their version of giardinera... it was a major yucky form of it which added misery to an already failing sandwich. It now sits at the bottom of my belly, feeling like a sack of wet mortar. I can see what is appealing to locals that favorite the establishment. To those that want to see their value, this can look like that particular spend. A $6 dollar turkey sandwich will look like a tank. It may not however satiate the craving for a carefully crafted sub sandwich. I ordered a couple sandwiches and a cup of stuffed pepper soup. The soup was alright, decent and hit the spot. The sandwiches... poor. I doubt I'll ever return. (Another reviewer commented why eat Subway when you can eat Boborino's fresh. Uhh, I'd wager it's about the same. GMO quality goods served in different wrappings.) Speaking of wrapping. They could stand to wrap to-go sandwiches in TWO wrappers. When pulling a sandwich out of the bag the wrapper was falling apart. Sandwiches are cut in half after wrapping. The only other offering of (any) desire would be their paninis. But I'd just as well hit any Panera before taking a round two. 2.5 stars. read more

I have known about this place for over 10 years but recently started going there more. Their subs are really good and you can tell their ingredients are fresh! My fav is the Italian sub or the Italian panini along with cheese fries. They have a good variety of subs/paninis/sandwiches to choose from and the employees are always friendly. Prices are cheap compared to other sub places (large Italian sub is only $6!!) They have a good size dining room area if you want to eat there but I usually take my food to go. read more

It's an ok place. Subs aren't bad. Decently priced. Soups are decent. Fries are ok - better with the cheese sauce they use. Don't use them for catering though. We made that mistake this past Christmas. I get they need a 24hr notice but the sandwiches tasted as if they made them several days beforehand. Lettuce was nasty and wilted.
