This place has a massive selection of both weapons and ammo. The staff may not be super cheery but they were helpful and I was handled adequately. As far as the range was concerned, I enjoyed shooting here. The targets were really cheap and you can shoot your own ammo. I didn't have anyone be a dick, and if they had been dicks to someone else, it was probably for good reason... They're dealing with people they don't know shooting weapons they may not know how to use. As far as a gun store and range, this place was great. My only advise is, if you're new to shooting at least have confidence and if you're shopping, be assertive. I'll be coming back soon. read more

Pretty good selection. Friendly & knowledgeable about the weapons they carry. I like that they have a gun range upstairs along with everything else needed to make sure your weapon is secure & safe. If you purchase your weapon from here they give you 3 free visits to their gun range. Also they have where you can try before you buy. Just to make sure you like how your baby handles. Although that does depend on availability on what's upstairs. Their prices have gone up since I visited them last year & I was told they were a little low on 380 ammo which is why I got a 9mm. I'd definitely recommend at least a stop by to check them out. read more

My husband and I typically go shooting every weekend together and I, by myself, try to go once during the week. Bob's wasn't our first stop, but after buying 2 guns here my husband was super impressed so we decided to go ahead and get a membership. They do a spousal membership, which is really useful for people like us. We are both member #123 but A and B. So we can come together OR when either of us come separate, we can bring a guest free of charge. I'm not sure if other places offer this type of thing, but I hadn't heard of it. When we go it seems to always be the same 2 or 3 guys working the range and ammo floors. Super friendly and they remember us, which is always nice. I've read some reviews about employees being snotty and rude, but I have not had that experience AT ALL. I consider myself an advanced beginner and they definitely take the time to answer my questions in depth so I understand everything. There can be long wait times for the range, but you can always make a reservation or call to see what the wait is like before arriving. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for a business that's in a great location (kind of dodgey, but it's close to everything), has friendly staff, and everything you need for a great time on the range. read more

Let's start this review off with the fact that I just downloaded Yelp and signed up just to write it. I've been to Bob's a few times in the past and they've been lacking first in knowledge and more in helpfulness. This trip lasted with me in the store for roughly 10 seconds. I've been overseas and many months and all the new Covid restrictions are new to me, I walked in with no one at the door and immediately up to the counter to look for a new pistol to conceal carry. An employee behind the counter proceeded to lose it at me for not standing on a blue mark on the ground in an extremely unprofessional way, hopefully management was watching because they've lost a permanent customer. Upon my visit here it was extremely crowded. I was shocked to see so many people in a gun shop but then again this is Virginia. Upon entering, I walked around a lot of counters and employees, but no one attempted to help me. I got in line to wait for help and was bypassed three times by employees who rather help older gentlemen instead of a solo female. I finally spoke up and asked if someone could help me. An older gentleman finally freed himself but I felt as though I was bothering him. He appeared annoyed to even answer my questions about a gun I was searching for. He recommended that I go upstairs to test a particular gun I was interested in buying. I went to the third-floor but the wait was over an hour and the guy at the front desk also seem to be annoyed that I would even bother him at work. I decided to turn around and leave this place. I would never come here again. I rather spend my money somewhere where the customer service is at least helpful and friendly. read more

Ammo is much cheaper than bass pro shop. Extremely reasonably priced. We usually spend $15 for both of us with our own ammo and guns. It's even cheaper if you have a membership. This Gun Shop has the WORST customer service I have ever received at a gun shop. Aside from the concealed carry instructor whom has ALWAYS been very knowledgeable, helpful, and nice with each visit... the other sale's reps care nothing about sharing information about the guns or ammo, all they do is try to rush you to buy the most expensive items and get you out of the store. The guys on the range itself are so unhelpful and uninterested. They could careless about gun safety and it is evident with all the gun holes going through the roof, through the floor and everywhere but in the circumference of the target! But yesterday was the final straw, i went by to purchase a weapon and ammo yesterday and the guy on the second floor was such an unprofessional jerk! Simply asked to be pointed in the direction of the ammo that i needed and he said this is all we got, now which one ya getting.... confused i looked at the ammo wondering why i wasn't able to explore my options and he then said can't you read the sign before pointing to barely noticeable plastic sign on the side of the register. I can get all of the same guns and Ammo at Superior or at Freedom with a much better customer experience and even better prices. Whenever we go here, we always get all the help we need. The people that work there are just like any people you'd find that work at a gun shop... Pretty serious and full of knowledge. I feel like that goes with the territory though. However, we do wish that safety was stressed more here. The range is super small (5 lanes) so there's not much room for error. We've been there and actually witnessed a guy hand his girlfriend a loaded weapon and she MUZZLED HERSELF! Great ammo selection, MOST of the staff was super friendly. Unfortunately there was an employee who had some sort of superiority complex and was a tremendous dick while trying to receive my fire arm that I purchased online. He was unfamiliar with Va state laws and over all made my first experience at Bobs guns a bad one. He was a short skinny cranky old man. I hope that this was an isolated event from an otherwise competent and eager staff. 3 out of the 4 employees I encountered were kind and knowledgeable. For me, customer service is my biggest pet peeve when dealing with a business. Best price for range time in the area. Rentals are $5 versus other places that charge $15. The range is on the small side, but it works. There's not much room to move around. The staff is super friendly. There was a wait when we got there (1 hour) so we browsed the shop on the floor. We got a lane 20 minutes after! Overall a good price for what you get. read more

I've been to Bob's three times now and have purchased a firearm. Absolutely beautiful selection of weapons, ammo, etc but I am big on customer service. Especially in the gun community. Personally, given the hostile political landscape that exists against guns, your local gun store should be more welcoming, un-intimidating, and inviting to gun enthusiasts of all degrees of experience. Currently, Bob's is none of those things. Please improve your customer service and remember that there are a lot of inexperienced shooters out there who are easily turned off. Virginia politics is insane and every customer is a potential voting ally with friends who can be influenced by their experience at your range and in your shop. I have a few more free range visits with you all but my next gun purchase will be elsewhere; if I can get my wife to come to the range with me, we will not go to Bob's unless the service improves. read more

My gun store! I've been a customer at Bob's for 6 years. I've purchased firearms from almost everywhere in my area, but Bob's cannot be beat for inventory, customer service and warranty service. My wife purchased three guns as gifts for me over the last couple of years. She's not "gun people", but they've always given her great customer service. She's had no problems purchasing without me due to in large part to Bob's customer services professionals. I defy anyone to find another gun store that warranties all used guns (parts and labor!). They'll also handle shipping if a gun they sold needs manufacturer's service. The have best gun smiths in the area (they will actually talk to you!). Let me end with this; the staff at Bob's are not perfect. I recently had a misunderstanding with them due to poor (them and me) communications. I was not happy (pissed off). So, I reached out to Robert (one of the owners), who sat down with me and heard me out. He was gracious, apologetic and kind. The situation was resolved well beyond my expectations, and I couldn't be happier. If you've ever felt unwelcome at a gun store, or if you've been treated badly at one; you need Bob's. :-) read more

Bob's gun shop is the best gun shop I have ever been to hands down. I just googled Bobs guns and was SHOCKED to find out they only had 3 stars. I have never written a review before but these guys deserve it. I have gone to bobs about 30 times over the last 5 years and have never had a negative experience. Sure there has been a time or two when they were busy and could not immediately help me.... BUT THEY'RE IS A REASON WHY THEY ARE BUSY! About 4 years ago I was looking to purchase my first hand gun. Picking your first hand gun is an important decision, and I'm one of those guys that needs to know everything about the product before purchasing it. I went to a couple gun stores that were over priced and were definitely not educated on fire arms... and then I found Bob's. I was impressed by the size and quality of their selection and how knowledgeable the staff was. After listening to my needs, they recommended a few guns and let me get the feel for the fire arm. One thing I liked is I never felt pressured to buy anything like I did at the other gun stores. They even had a large selection of rentals upstairs at their indoor shooting range which gave me the chance to try a couple out. I tried to be thrifty and went to a couple gun shows before buying a hand gun. I paid $8 to get in and found that hand guns there were about $20 to $30 bucks cheaper. I decided that $30 was worth having the security of buying from a place of business with a knowledgeable staff that could help me with any problems I might have. PLUS THE $100's OF FREE RANGE TIME THEY GIVE YOU WHEN YOU PURCHASE A GUN DEFINITELY SWEETENS UP THE DEAL!!! I have been going to Bob's ever since for all my gun needs. Just completed concealed handgun training at Bob's. Steve Dowdy was a great instructor. He was funny and kept everyone involved, which is good because some of the material is very basic. Ended up there because it was the only range in the area that didn't have a huge wait. It's clear that if you're in, you're in. If you're not, you're not. I wanted to buy a second magazine for my pistol and I waited for 20 minutes for someone to actually acknowledge my presence. Then I had to wait another 10 minutes as he waited for the one computer available to ring me up. Throw in being treated like an idiot at the range, the fact that the range isn't all that, and I likely won't be back. Pros: - The owner is super nice and teaches a great gun safety course. He seems to legitimately care about any complaints. - The sales staff on the first floor are friendly, helpful, kind, and took the time show me all the guns I wanted to look at and answer all my questions. Cons: - Range staff is unfriendly and rude. Members can make lane reservations. We arrived 5 minutes late (parking is horrid and limited during their peak times) for our reservation and the guy behind the counter snapped "You're 5 minutes late. I've already given away your lane. We can't wait around all day for you." All day? Really? 5 minutes? I get that we were late, but there's no reason to be so rude. A simple "We can't hold the lane beyond the original reservation time, but we'll get you back on the list and get you in a soon as we can!" would've been way better. - Long targets are required to be sent to the very end of the range. Better do it or they'll yell at you over the range microphone. You'd think they'd mention this rule to range newbies when they buy the long targets. Nope. Bob's is within walking distance of my house, but we've stopped going there. We paid for the membership and used the range 5 times and each experience was just as horrible as the last. The range staff was incredibly rude each time. There was a range promotion going on (rent a certain gun, get free ammo and a t-shirt). We asked about it and the guy acted like it was a burden on him for us to try the promotion. We didn't even get a t-shirt! Will not be spending money here ever again. My boyfriend and I went last Sunday the 3rd and the wait was long as expected on a Sunday but we were in the market for a new gun, specifically a sig. We just moved to the area, and Bob's is right down the street from us so we were excited to try out a place so close to home. So far, I had only heard negative reviews about this shop, specifically because of the general attitude and poor customer service from their employees. At the shop, we were clearly looking for guns and we had to ask a really skinny guy with a goatee behind the counter for assistance, he not once offered any help, and had his face turned away from us until we had to get his unwelcoming attention. This guy was abrasive, rude, and beyond arrogant. He spoke down to us as if we were stupid and hardly let us get a word in. He not once smiled, threw his hand in front of my boyfriend for reaching for a gun that we had looked at just seconds before it was put away. All he had to do was kindly say, let me get that for you, it is policy. Instead he wanted to exercise the little boy power he had and throw his hand up in front of my boyfriend with the most obnoxious look filled with attitude. We both grew up with guns and with his smug behavior, he wanted to assume we didn't know anything and give us a recited, memorized lesson on single and double action, it took every piece of me not to tell him to shut the hell up. AT LEAST assess customers knowledge before assuming that they know nothing. Nothing angers me more than being talked down to. We are both extremely educated people, and know beyond the basics of guns, considering we own dozens, have our CCW's and have fathers that were both military and law enforcement. Even though the sig we wanted was slightly cheaper here, we went down to superior gun and spent our $800+ there, and we will spend another $600+ in a few weeks at superior gun when I am ready to buy my gun. I hardly write negative reviews but this ONE employee is enough to keep us from coming back to a business that can allow such a self-righteous, arrogant person to represent them. From now on, we will continue to inform people to not come here and to spend their money elsewhere. I almost didn't go here because of the reviews. But every gun store or gun range in Norfolk had a ton of horrible reviews. I'll go ahead and say that my experience was limited to the first two floors. We didn't go to the range, we just wanted to stop in to check the place out before we decided to bring our guns here. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the man behind the counter. He was friendly and asked if we needed anything. We told him that this was our first time and that we just wanted to look around. He informed us that they have three floors and to take our time. We looked around then headed to the second floor where they keep the ammo. As we looked, this older man came over and asked if we needed anything. We told him that we were looking for 9mm and 22 ammo. He showed us where both were while telling us what's best for whatever type of shooting we were doing. We ended up buying ammo for both guns. We asked about the range and were told that it's $10 for us to share a lane for an hour, but we could take more time as long as people weren't waiting. We purchased our ammo, headed downstairs and looked around some more. As far as the location, it's right next to the hood and bus station, but the parking lot was fenced in so there were no hoodlums wondering around the parking lot. We went to the store around noon on a Monday, so maybe that helped with the crowd. read more

We did not know how things worked never having been, but all he could do is have a snotty attitude when telling us how it worked. He was not helpful at all. My wife and I went to Bob's on Christmas Eve 2012 looking for an M4. Needless to say they were very busy. We asked the first sales person we met if they had an M4 in stock. The employee said "no" and that was the extent of the conversation. No suggestions for alternative guns. He didn't ask if there was something else we might be interested in he turned to the person behind me and said "may i help you?" I could not believe he blew us off like that. I looked at my wife and said "we are out of here" and I do not intend to ever walk into the place again unless they offer a free gun with every purchase. When we got in our car and I called Superior Pawn in Norfolk and asked if they had any M4's in stock. I was told the Norfolk store did not have an M4 for sale but their Virginia Beach store may have some in stock. My wife and I went to Superior Pawn, purchased the exact rifle that I wanted and walked out satisfied that even though Superior Pawn is a little out of our way when we are ready to purchase another gun, more ammo or go to the shooting range they will get our business. I am in electrical sales myself and if I treated any customer like that I know I would be looking for a new job. These people at Bob's must think they are the only gun shop in the area. I've been to Bob's twice & found the staff & owners to be very friendly, knowledgeable & helpful. I had a gun I bought online transferred. $30 transfer & had me out the door in under 15 minutes. Ammo supply is good & fairly reasonably priced. I have also shot a few rounds in their range--nothing special, but it's convenient & adequate for firing handguns at targets...that's all I need. The parking lot is nicely fenced in. It's not in a great area, but I'm sure they don't have many problems. read more

People here are friendly, especially for what they have to put up with. I was once in there and they were dealing with a pissed off costumer who tried paying for a firearm with a credit card in someone else's name or it was declined. So they like any law abiding gun store would, said come back when you have the problem fixed. I just bought a piece from them and it took longer then expected, they were training a new guy, I had no problem with it because the store is awesome to look around in. I read some of these reviews and I'm not sure what those peoples problem is. I've never had a bad experience and they've always been honest. I bought bulk ammo from them once, they warned me about this ammo I was buying (cheap) (maxtech) they said it's a 50/50 whether your gun will take it and fire, they were completely honest with me and recommended I go like 50-100 bucks more for reliable ammo, I was on a tight budget so I didn't listen. That fault is on me. That ammo is shit. But cheap. I'll gladly come back here. They are a good bunch read more

The store is pretty nice however everything is expensive. I was there for the shooting range. What a HOT BOX. It was 85 degrees and humid as heck. Sweat poured in my eyes and my hands were so wet I could hardly hold onto my gun. It is dark, dirty and you have to pick up your own brass when you finish. The guy at the counter is a real grouch. Went to Colonial Shooting Academy on Witchduck Rd yesterday and it is wonderful. COOL, CLEAN, BRIGHT, THERE IS A GUY STANDING BEHIND YOU AND HE CLEANS UP THE BRASS AS YOU GO AND WILL BE HAPPY TO GIVE SUGGESTIONS IF YOU NEED THEM. It costs a little more but was well worth it to me. Maybe I'll go back to Bob's in winter. read more

Thanks to yelp I entered this store afraid of being yelled at or being ignored by employees. My experience was the opposite. I came in within an hour of closing, and was sold a Ruger Single Action by a very polite man. I didn't catch his name but he was very helpful and answered all my questions (there were a LOT). None of the staff was impatient to get rid of me even though the store actually closed while I was conducting the sale (not something i regularly do.) So for those of you with bad experiences, maybe you were dealing with the younger, hot-blooded employees. The older guys there were calm and I enjoyed shopping there. However, you can get ammo and accessories cheaper online. Good store, would recommend over a pawn shop any day. read more

We can usually find everything we're looking for and then some. We have found some nice everyday carry pieces that were reasonably priced. The added bonus is the free range visits that come with a firearm purchase. You'll find your ammo, holsters, magazines, extenders, sights, flashlights, and lots more including hearing and eye protection. The range has convenient hours and parking is not too bad on a typical day. read more
