This place should be called Bob's Scrumptiousness! Whoever Bob is, he knows shrimp. He knows not to over bread them and fry them hard as a rock -- (IYKYK) I had been skeptical because of the mixed reviews. As I watched people pile in on a Saturday evening, my skepticism decreased. The women at the register were cordial and my food came out fast. There is one bench for waiting but no seating inside as this is take out only. The interior was clean and well lit. Only cash is accepted but there is an ATM in the parking lot. I ordered a pound of both extra large shrimp and spicy catfish. I picked three of the sauce options; mild cocktail, tartar and spicy garlic. The shrimp were fried to perfection and well seasoned. The spicy catfish was delicious and it was actually catfish -- not that clickbait swai fish junk. I'll be dragging my husband here often. read more

Best fried shrimp in the Midwest area. To put it into perspective I drive all the way from downtown Chicago & paid two tolls. I'm from the area so I grew up on the stuff. I remember coming into town years ago & stopping here before I stopped at my parents place. The shrimp by itself is extremely tasteless however the marriage of the sweet/tangy cocktail sauce is where the magic lies. The place is expensive, the hours can be a pain & they randomly run out of things such as the fried okra but you'd be extremely hard pressed to find a better fried shrimp establishment. I drove quite a way to get some shrimp. I arrived just before 8pm and their doors were locked and they had switched the sign to closed. The shrimp are good from what I can remember but don't waste your time driving here as they seem to close at 7:30 so they can leave work at 8pm :( read more

The food is now getting worse. The jumbo shrimp are average size and heavily breaded. The catfish is large catfish nuggets and not filets. I have tried the fish several times recently and been disappointed. I am sad because I really used to like their fish. The prices are high, but you no longer get quality fish. Very good shrimp with crispy batter, fries are good but their macaroni salad is from container and not homemade and they only take cash. The counter where you order and pay is DIRECTLY where the door is and when you enter you might walk into fellow customers. Bob's is a neighborhood favorite that has been around for decades. I look forward to getting my shrimp whenever I'm home and they have yet to disappoint me. The food is always hot and cooked fresh to order. I was really shocked when they told me my food would be ready in 5 minutes but that's all it took! You have to go early to make sure you get what you want. My aunt wanted perch and I wanted jumbo shrimp but they were out of both so we opted for medium shrimp. They were really good! I might actually have it again before I leave! Due to covid you can't go inside, you have to pick your food up from the window on the side of the building. They're a cash only restaurant and have moved the atm machine outside. read more

This is the only place you can purchase deep fried items that do NOT need napkins to eat them. There is literally little or not grease on your fingers and the flavor is amazing. Do NOT come to this place if you are trying to impress someone with anything other than the food. Been meaning to write a review for this place for a while now, even before my partner went here either last week or few weeks ago. I use to go to Bob's Shrimp back when I was in High School at BNI, when Bob's use to be next door to McDonald's, about a block down, before they moved to where they are now. I do not recall when that happen exactly, but I am more an old customer due to health just could not eat fried food as much as I would like too, due to a kidney issue. Either way about a week or so ago, my partner ordered their jumbo shrimp, clams, I think we got small coleslaw and I think something else, do not recall 100%. Well the woman behind the counter was right on something, when she said to my lady we would be back, because the food was good, and her words were right. I may not been going here for years, and I may not remember the quality 100%, but will say Bob's will always have our business for as long as they are open and as long as I can have seafood, as I can not eat fried as much as I would like to as stated. Sadly tonight we were going to have bob's tonight but they were closed before 8pm, so figured we give Shrimp Express in Calumet City a try and well as honest as I can say that was a huge mistake, due to service(attitude) and food quality(feeling sick).
