Everything about this place was great! I'll start with the service. We walked in around 4:10 and they didn't start food service for another 20 minutes. The waiter was super cool and told us to have a seat anywhere we liked and brought us a drink menu. He knew we wanted to eat so at exactly 4:30 he came and took our orders. Through out the meal he was on top of everything and even offered many suggestions! The food was spectacular as well. I had the trio of fries and my friends had other small plates that were all so good! And the sauces that come with the fries, mamma mia! We also shared the Boca's Platter and it was absolutely to die for. Do not pass this up. I repeat, do not pass this up! Between 4 people, the medium was plenty of food. The space itself was also nice. They had outdoor seating for nicer days. We went right when food service began on a Monday afternoon so can't speak to how busy it gets during peak hours. Our first stop in Amsterdam for a late lunch. We ordered mushroom bruschetta, 1 medium boca platter(meat,cheese,fish), three kinds of fries and of course STEAK TARTARE. The bruschetta was delicious and if you love blue cheese, get it...it's extremely rich and creamy. The three kinds of fries were solid; curly, sweet potato, and regular with some chili ketchups. The boca platter was HUGE and we got the medium for 4 people. Came with steak, fried shrimp, mackerel potato salad, crostini, and an assortment of cheeses and some pepperoni. Last but not least...my favorite...the tartare. The quail egg was delicately placed atop the center of the meat and placed alongside the four little crostini on the plate. It was juicy and had so much flavor, a little spicy but not an overwhelming amount of chili spice. This meal reminded me of tapas in Madrid; definitely stop by bocas and get everything! read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about Bar Boca. I ran into an ex-pat at a concert and she recommended I swing by here for drinks and food during my stay in Amsterdam. After her great taste in music, I figured she had to have great taste in food, and boy was I right. During the day, they only do sandwiches, so don't get your heart set on a meat plate and come at the wrong time. I have to admit, I was a little bummed out when this initially happened, but the lunch menu is on point. I went with a friend and we chowed down. Here's the breakdown of what was ordered... Drinks: 2 beers & a glass of rose Sandwiches (all on brown bread): -Mozzarella -Geitenkaas (goat cheese + bacon + dates) -Bitterbal (classic dutch snack - a MUST try) -Steak tartaar (my personal favorite) -Hamburger (recommended by our waitress, definitely one of the most hearty of the buns) -Tonijn (like a mini tuna melt!) -Hummus (my least favorite - a little bland compared to the other excellent combinations, but felt like we needed something with veggies to break up the meat orders) ...for 35 euro. This was absolutely my favorite lunch in Amsterdam, possibly the entire three weeks I was there. The interior of the restaurant is small and hip. I wish we could have sat outside, as it was a beautiful day, but the 3-4 tables were already taken. Our waitress was really friendly, spoke great English, and recommended a couple of awesome sandwiches. There's legal bike parking nearby, which was helpful. Modern dutch mini sandwiches. Super lekker! Everything I've had here is great. You should order two sandwiches for an average appetite as they are tapa small-sized and about €3 each. I always want to eat more and more! Great to come with friends and sample a few at once. I really love the Manchego met vijgencompote and Gerookte makreel met citroen-kappertjes mayonaise. This a great place to go by for a lunch or afternoon snack. The front bay window area is very cozy with all sorts of cushions, and they often open the large windows -- ahh so great on a nice day... -- Update: In the evening there is another delicious menu. Try the trio of fries with sweet potato, curly and normal ones. It comes with three different aiolis too-- the truffle mayo made my taste buds do the roger rabbit. Perhaps a little judgement considering it was a weekday, but it was my last day in the city before I had to head back to the states. The is a perfect little spot if you want a nice chill breakfast or lunch. We ended up coming into this restaurant because everything around it was crowded. I must say that it was a great idea. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and some fries. It was beyond delicious. I ended up ordering another sandwich . We also ordered Korean chicken wings, they were only ok. They freshly squeeze the OJ, which was so delicious and pure. The only negative I have is that there was only one server for the whole restaurant and he had to run up and downstairs. My only disappointment with Boca's is that I won't get to try the various other options they had on the menu, but the one I did have was Brilliant! Bright, white and airy. That's the way I would describe it. Situated in one of the coolest neighbours of the Dam it is definitely a modern café/restaurant with an excellent but eclectic music play list, friendly staff and lots of tables to sit outside at if the sun it paying the city a visit when you are there. The menu is cool and unusual and seems to be different at different times of day. When we were there at lunch/brunch we had the Boca's (little bread rolls) themselves. You pick from a list of fillings and then they come out on a platter to share. We had a dynamite tuna & cheese salad, a delightful gouda and pickle one, a very unusual scallop and salami roll and also a nice triple cheese one. (There is 5 in the picture, but being honest I have forgotten one of them) The rolls look small, but were very tasty and actually quite filling. They also seem to do other dishes later in the day, there was some amazing sounding platters and I also love the idea of fries three ways!! A great place to visit and offering something a bit different from the normal café/restaurant style of pick from one menu. If I am ever back in Amsterdam, I will 100% be back to Boca's read more

Turns out... a boca is just mini sandwiches with some toppings. I read from previous reviews how great the snacks are, so I was disappointed. The bread itself... meh... really nothing special and reminds me of bread rolls I can buy at the grocery store. The toppings weren't as good as the description sounded on the menu. The fancy smoked salmon one was basically a bunch of salmon and some raw red onions. The cheese with fig compote... thick cheese slices with a little bit of something you can't identify. We also tried 3 other ones not worth mentioning. Aside from the bocas, we thought we'd give the duck salad a chance. It was smoked duck with fois gras. I mean... how much fois gras do you really need on a salad?? The ratio was 1:1, so it was difficult to eat all that fatty white stuff with each bite. The rest of the salad would have been good. We also had coffee, tea, and a chocolate cake. The coffee and tea were very average and although the cake itself was fairly decent, we had to ask the wait staff 4 times for it and wait 45min for them to go get it from the kitchen. Boca means mouth in Italian, and Boca's has decided to focus on treating your mouth. The system is simple: they don't work with starters, appetizers or mains. They have different platters, and some smaller dishes you can order on the side. And no, don't call them side dishes. That would be an insult. As we walk in we immediately notice the atmosphere: it is super relaxed. We're welcomed by one of the waiters, who cracks a joke and who, as he sees we are somewhat displeased with our table, directly takes action and clears another table for us. After noticing our - I assume - somewhat flabbergasted faces as we've just read the menu, he comes over to explain us their system, as I previously mentioned. The meat platter we have, joined by a chicken pillata with dried figs and a bruschetta with buffalo mozzarella and tomato chutney, is absolutely amazing. Five types of meat, each prepared in its own way, are presented on a rustic wooden kitchen platter. Chimichurri steak, pulled chicken, Peking duck, pastrami with caramelized onions, and the best of all, a salami with tzatziki. For dessert we had the Eton Mess, a perfect mixture of sweet and sour by means of red berries and whipped cream. We'd also have liked the white chocolate cheesecake, but unfortunately they ran out. Instead, they offered us an assortment of chocolates, on the house. A very kind gesture. Overall, I loved the atmosphere, the way we were treated by the staff, and above all, the food was good and surprisingly different. I'd love to visit again. read more

I popped by this place as we were looking for a summer terrace cafe in the neighborhood. It's not the best view - no canals or parks ; but it's on a decent street.. Perfect for a casual relaxed beer. And that's what we had ; lots of beer!! The selection of beer is decent. To must admit ; the service is great. They checked on us quite regularly and food was served fairly quickly. We had the beef tartare - good; shrimp cocktail - ok and the meat platter - loved it!! The meat platter is perfect for two with pulled chicken, fennel sausage, ham, steak, Peking duck... I'm always on the hunt for places with good share platters/antipasto plates and the like, and I have to say Boca's exceeded all expectations. Our group of 3 ordered a "medium" sized mixed platter, which was the perfect size, and everything on it was delicious. Literally. Everything. There was not one thing I didn't want to eat. And amazing price to quality ratio. Especially for the Jordaan! The service was nice as well, quite attentive and friendly. The place itself was only ok, not a super cozy place to sit as we ended up being wedged into a corner sitting on high chairs (ugh), but it wasn't noisy and had a good amount of light, so it wasn't too bad in the end. Walked in for a Sunday brunch after a quick walk around the neighborhood. It's in a wonderful location flanked by numerous other cafes and restaurants. They also have a nice well-heated outdoors seating area. Inside wasn't busy at all, but the best part is that you can get whatever kind of table you'd like - high, low, round, square. The service is essentially one hostess trying her best to keep everyone pleased with their food and drinks. I ordered the breakfast platter that came with fresh orange juice, a croissant, and 'boca eggs', all on a wooden plate. Everything was good and not so pricey, except that the eggs come with a generous serving of meat. Since I am a vegetarian, I had to send the near back, leaving meat-juice to soak my eggs in. Not so much of an issue for me, but some vegetarians might find that problematic. The breads are baked fresh and taste wonderful. We also tried the hummus sandwich and grilled vegetables. The concept is small plates of different things, duck with chocolate, french fries from thee types of potatoes and three types of mayonnaise. Mediterranean attitude to eating, have something now and after that see if you would like some more, no need to order everything at once and also great for sharing with people at the table. This is a very cosy and friendly place next to the Sarphatipark in 'The Pijp' neighbourhood. Great for lunch, drinks and dinner. A Boca is a small sandwich and their are many of them on the creative menu. Everything tastes great! The concept is that you choose 3 small sandwiches to represent a full meal. They might look gigantic but they are actually perfect size! Great place to go with friends, order a bunch of sandwiches and share them all. I visited Bar Bocas on a Friday night with a big group. We were with 14 of us and because of the size of the group we got a table in the corner, just next to the entrance. We went ahead and ordered some of the "famous" share plates - Boca's signature plate - with meat, cheese, vegetable. I have to say that the plate was a bit of dissapointment, dont understand me wrong - food was very nice, nice pieces of cheese, mortadella, olives, etc, however most of the place on the plate was taken by bread... The shared platter contained very small amount of different small snacks to put on your bread, but it was overflown with the amount of bread. Still feeling quite hungry after 3 of such big plates to share we decided to order few portions of fries. Fries were not crispy and not very tasty, on the other hand different mayo's provided with were very tasteful. All in all it was a very good evening, because of my company, but not because of the food. I would give this place 3.5 star, as I think that the small snacks are nice, just the place is not made for big groups. read more

I just had a very unpleasant experience with Boca's Park. Whilst trying to make a reservation for 10, which one could say is good business for any restaurant, this restaurant showed no flexibility at all. Having been here before and having thoroughly enjoyed their "borrelplateaus" (basically an antipasto-platter), I was very excited to eat there once again for my short return to The Netherlands. Due to a lack of time however I have to visit them during the day and they serve their platters not until 4.30 PM. Upon friendly asking whether an exception could be made and (with pre-payment if necessary, mind you this was 2 weeks out) if we could have one of their large platters for lunch I received a blunt NO. When emailing back explaining how excited I was to have it once again, I received a NO and "feel free to make your reservations elsewhere". Needless to say this is one of the most inhospitable experiences I have ever had and all though my live experience in their other restaurant was good, I am very hesitant to come back here. Great for them that their business is running so well that they can afford to behave like this, but if that will last forever... read more

Went there because of the yelp reviews - but wasn't too convinced after all. The concept is the same as 100 montaditos in Spain.. If you've been there. Basically they just serve little bread rolls and you get to fill out a form choosing the toppings like goat cheese, hamburger, chorizo, tuna, salmon etc.. It's not bad but also not amazing. However, according to the reviews it must be one of the best places to get some food in that area - which I find hard to believe. If you are nearby and looking for a place to eat, this is your spot. The food is fantastic. I had "small" sampler platter, which I couldn't even finish. It had steak, smoked sausage, smoked salmon, some smoked white fish, and some blue cheese. I don't usually like salmon, but this was really good! The sausage and the steak, both of which are more in my wheel house, were excellent. This in addition to the fantastic service and great atmosphere make it a definite 5 star spot. The mash potato fries were great especially with the dips they provided. Small but good beer selection and great service, the waiter was very helpful and friendly which is a huge plus!! I love their menu--tiny little bites on large plates for sharing. It's a great spot for catching up with friends or a romantic night out. Their "bocas" are tasty little sandwiches as well as other small tapas style bites. I've liked all that I've tried but my favorite is the tortilla. Their sharing plates come in different sizes. Depending on your appetite, you could have a snack or a meal. My favorites are the fish or vegetarian platters. In addition to their tasty plates, they also have a nice selection of wine. If you can obtain a seat, its well worth paying Boca's a visit. We had an easy dinner here yesterday, eating a broad range of dishes from the menu. As I visited the place once before (and did not really enjoy the platters), we stuck to the tapas this time around. And they were great. Especially liked to lobster role and the shrimp croquettes. The wine was also quite nice, but for a modern tapas-place, you would expect a bit more daring selection. All in all a good place to visit if you're in the neighbourhood, but the concept would benefit from a small upgrade. read more
