We had a party of 7 and everyone was pleased with their food from the drinks to the tacos to appetizers and entree with the exception of the ribeye. Cannot give 5 stars. I will settle for 4. I ordered a block of beef, medium rare. And that was awesome. Great flavor on every bite, and ideal texture. Would have been nicer if there were some kind of sauce to go with it I thought. Butter, demiglase, chimichurri, something. The arugula salad that came with was too salty and too sour but the tomatoes in the salad was delightful. Is that grilled or put in oven for short time? Light warmness of those tomatoes really brought out the sweetness of the tomatoes itself, I enjoyed that very much. The salsa and beans that came at the beginning of the meal was actually really good. Wife ordered a hamburger, and wow. The meat was so so sooo salty. That's gotta be extra salted by mistake. There is no way that was prepared correctly. Tortilla soup was quite plain. I kinda wished there to have more depth in flavor. We ordered the signature tacos for my kid. I didn't try them but my kid liked it. Price was about $100 for 3 of us. When you combine good food and good service, you have a great place. Bodega 8 may have been my favorite restaurant thus far on my Mexicali tour. The atmosphere here was very family friendly, while offering a good area of business meetings as well. The restaurant sat us quickly and got straight to the drinks, delicious! So there was 3 of us and we ordered the tortilla soup, the ribeye chicharron, pulpo tacos, kalifornia II taco & cachanilla taco! So when I say everything was good, it was. What an amazing find in Mexicali! We were staying overnight in Mexicali as a midpoint between Puerto Peñasco and Los Angeles. After arriving, hungry and tired, we looked for a place to have a good meal. While there are many restaurants in that area, Bodega 8 caught my eye because of their eclectic food. And, let me tell you, they did not disappoint! We had the grilled octopus which was divinely tender, the rib eye perfectly cooked, grilled chicken, artichokes and a beautiful salad. All of the food was exceptional but even more so was the incredible service we received from Victor. I told my husband I will forever drive through Mexicali to get to Puerto Peñasco, even though there are other routes, just so I can dine at Bodega 8 again! Wow, this restaurant is one of the few higher end ones in this plaza with the Fairfield Inn and Holiday Express. I heard about the deconstructed Cobb salad from a colleague but didn't get a chance to order that because I had my eyes on the Sinaloa style Aguachile and the Banados Tacos (barbacoa). Both were delicious!!! I got them as take out and was super happy with my decision. The Aguachile was loaded with fresh raw shrimp and the tacos were so flavorful. Together, I spent just about $20USD - which is pretty cheap compared to the same items ordered in the US. The front hostess was very kind and got me an English menu after she saw me looking at a Spanish one that I grabbed myself. Will definitely be back to try other dishes :D read more

To be honest, I was walking with my team to another restaurant but we got the directions wrong and came here instead. BEST MISTAKE EVER! You walk in and the atmosphere seems very intimate and inviting. We sat on the side of the place since there were 8 of us. I come here often and I love the food. I came again on Dec 23rd. Had Tripe which was really good and crunchy! Then I had two Tacos "California" which is shrimp and beef in a california pepper, this was good but it had to much grease/oil. Then a Cachanilla Taco it had octopus, which was good, but not my favorite, I was overwhelmed by the cheese and did not. Finish it. For dessert A Carajillo (espresso with Licor 43), I love this , but that day it tasted a bit burnt, first one I did not finish ever. Service was good the waiters were nice, not sure why the food was so greasy today, maybe because it was super busy. I gave them a 4 since the flavors are overwhelming for me and I normally do not order that, but for people big on flavors I would recommend it. Our server wasn't that great and to top it off he was demanding a 15% tip because he stated that the restaurant keep 70% of their tips and needed the 15% tip in order to get a decent tip take home. This restaurant was disappointing to say the least. I wasn't willing to give it any more of my time... yet I will because I care about saving your taste buds and pockets from extinction. I'm going to get straight to the point. I understood that this place was a steakhouse;however, since the menu was 80% sea food I decided to order the fish fillet with shrimp, baby potatoes, & Mexican rice. First of all the plate did not look appetizing at all. I could've prepared a better looking plate while blind folded using my feet, regardless i gave it the benefit of the doubt. I have to say i regret doing so because the first filthy bite I took could've made my dead dog turn in her grave (RIP). The fish was as chewy as a well done steak, the rice tasted like it was soaked in a tomato soup can, and the green sauce they poured on top of it all was sour, ugly, and bland. You would think it couldn't possibly get any worse, sadly it does. They forgot to put the shrimp & baby potatoes on my plate SMH. In a way im glad i wasnt served the shrimp and baby potatoes.. I might've puked my insides out that night while my woman carried all 165lbs of me back to the car by my ankles.This experience cost $650 pesos (almost $40 US dollars). Do not spend your money here. This place is better than average. First, the good: had the grilled octopus, which was excellent by itself, but served on a bed of bland rice and equally bland baby potatoes. Ordered apps of grilled artichoke (quite good) and guacamole, which was also bland, lacking flavor, and needing salt, which we literally applied ourselves. Had a taste of the stuffed breaded shrimp, which was probably the best thing we had, but would work more as an appetizer. The grilled shrimp with vegetables dish was a disappointment- shrimp had excellent flavor but came in the shell, which was messy and irritating. The sides on that dish were horrible. Spiraled vegetables tasted like they were boiled in dishwater and the bland rice I mentioned before. They had a nice cocktail list- tried the smoky old fashioned and a margarita, both of which were good. Majorly disappointed in their craft beer- had a nice selection of 9 listed but were out of 4 of them, so the offerings were standard fare of typical Mexican beers and lagunitas ipa which you can get anywhere. Service was decent, but a little disorganized, with people running around looking busy but not really doing much. If you still want to go after reading all this, get a reservation because the place was packed and you needed one, even on the Thursday we went. Would I go there again? Not on purpose, but I wouldn't complain if there was an event someone else instigated. Prices were good for American standards but high for Mexico. read more

Visiting Mexicali for a business trip and as I was walking to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings i saw this restaurant and chose to eat here instead. I ordered the filet steak and I'm not lying when i say it was of the best steaks and cut of meat I have ever eaten. 10/10 recommend if you enjoy steak and the service was exceptional as well read more
