Bodega, a Spanish tapas restaurant located in Heidelberg, Germany, was a pleasant surprise during my trip to the country. I came here to go to Hockenheim, and have some great German food and somehow ended up at a phenomenal Spanish tapas restaurant.
Despite its hard-to-find location, the warm greeting upon arrival made me feel instantly at ease. English menus were provided once the waiter realized our limited knowledge of German, which was much appreciated.
The menu consisted of a variety of tapas and main dishes, and I opted for the former. The tapas were phenomenal - from the artichokes to the seafood salad, everything was cooked to perfection. I particularly enjoyed the grilled squid dish, which was surprisingly fresh and well-cooked. My friend had the seafood special for two, which featured several types of fish, shrimps, mussels, and squid, all of which were cooked nicely.
We also shared the tapas plate special for two, which had a fair selection of dishes, but was mainly served as an appetizer. The portion size per person was not very big, but the quality and taste more than made up for it. The restaurant also offered a huge bowl of salad for us to share with our entrees, which was a nice touch for family-style dining.
Although we were too full to try the desserts, we did order a flan and crema catalana with a sweet sherry, which were decent but had room for improvement. Overall, the meal was a bit on the pricier side, but worth it for a special occasion.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a decor that transported me straight to Spain. The service was also exceptional, with attentive and friendly staff who made sure we had a great dining experience.
In conclusion, Bodega is a hidden gem in Heidelberg, offering delicious tapas and main dishes that will satisfy any craving for Spanish cuisine. With its warm atmosphere, excellent service, and high-quality food, it's definitely a restaurant worth visiting for a special occasion or a night out with friends. read more
