I sat down here with a group for a birthday dinner and was treated to course after course of beautiful Chinese food.
Three dishes stood out:
1. The calamari, a beautifully thin and crispy batter on the outside with perfectly cooked calamari inside (I just wish there was more to go around).
2. The giant prawns: deep fried in a deliciously thin crispy spicy textured layer, so good and so tasty I was happy to eat the prawn inside its shell for the extra flavour and texture (something I've never entertained ever before, it felt like what the original prawn cracker must have been like).
3. The thinly sliced steak: I've no idea what is was called but it was perfectly cooked and so tender (a little raw in the middle - if you're from the well-done brigade - just close your eyes and enjoy the ride, it's worth it.)
There is nothing grungy or try-hard hipster about the decor or the menu, it's just smooth and a little understated.
Works for me.
Before I went I read some pretty harsh reviews about the place, but while the night wasn't cheap by any means at 60/head, I have to say I was happy with the food, the service and the atmosphere.
Would I go here again? It's a YES from me. read more
