My husband and I have lived in Germany for 10 years and we aren't too fond of most German red wines…read more(personally prefer Spanish and Italian) and we like the Alsace white wines better than most comparable German ones.. BUT, we love the German Weinstrasse for the beauty of the villages and scenery. We happened upon Weingut Helmut Schreieck last fall and they were having a wine tasting. We discovered a very nice peppery Merlot and a divine Sauvignon Blanc! We were very impressed :) We went back today to restock. It is possible to stay there as they have B&B type rooms available. The neighborhood is quiet and the beds are comfortable. The rooms are tastefully decorated, and clean. Visitors from the U.S. will want to know that there is no air-conditioning in the sleeping rooms, but the conference rooms do have it. As well, the wifi signal was inadequate from my first room in the 160 hallway. However, the staff cheerfully moved me to a room closer in proximity to the lobby where the wireless signal was flawless I can't say enough about the breakfasts. What an amazing spread, and in the European style that I've grown to like so much. There is plenty of variety, and I wish hotels in the States would adopt some of the Euro-style dishes and serve them here. Breakfast was a high-point, and I was up early for it each morning. The Villa Toscana is a very nice hotel, and you won't go wrong putting it on your short list of possible places to stay when visiting the Heidelberg area.
