As someone with a strong sweet tooth, BomboBar hit the spot. My only "complaint" is they are strict on adjusting their "special" menu items. Which made my order double the price. Service was speedy and one scoop is plenty (just heads up, it's a large scoop). Disappointed by very limited seating for such large portions of food. Not very easy to eat on the go.
My friend and I were very confused by this place as the menu did not reflect what we were seeing on Yelp or on their social media. We ended up with much smaller donuts than we thought we would get. Don't get me wrong, they were still very much delicious! It was just very confusing as it wasn't what we were expecting. Do they change out their menu items? If so, how often? I really wanted a donut ice cream sandwich, but that wasn't even on the menu anywhere. It was still a very good donut place and they have a nice outdoor seating area that's enclosed with heat lamps, so you can come here even during the colder months. Not much decor, but still some cute signage. Be aware their tables are extremely off balance since it is on a hill. They should put something under the legs to make them even because I was nervous amount my food sliding off if I wasn't paying attention. The woman at the window that helped us was more on the rude side. She visibly looked annoyed as it she was upset we were making her do her job. My friend and I split 6 Bombolinis and got 2 dipping sauces: chocolate hazelnut and salted caramel. The donuts themselves were pretty good! I don't think I would make a special trip out here just for them though. Both sauces were very good, but the salted caramel was to die for! Definitely my favorite of the two we tried. I would give this place 4 stars, but the false advertising and confusion is making me give it 3 stars instead. I was really looking forward to certain things and there's no explanation at all.
This is a great spot if you're looking for desserts to take pics of. That being said - the last few times I've gone here they are out of a lot of their ingredients so good luck lol. The staff is friendly and nice to chat with. They have screens where you can place an order on your own or you are able to go to the window and place an order with someone. This is an all outdoor spot - there is no access to indoor seating. There are a few places to sit outside, very limited. This is more of a 'grab what you ordered and walk around with it' type of place. Right in the heart of Fulton market so there is plenty to see while you walk around with your sweet treat. It is on the pricier side, but city prices are always higher. Cute presentation but the quality is so so. Full of sugar which is to be expected.
The Bombolato satisfied my sweettooth! I've always wanted to make a stop here when I'm in Chicago and finally had the opportunity to. It was a beautiful afternoon and I ordered outside without a wait. I like the simplicity of the menu. I ordered the Strawberry chocolate chip bombolato. It was very filling, but I did end up eating it all! It was delicious!
YUM YUM YUM in my tum! The hot apple cider was delicious and I loved the whipped cream and caramel. I also appreciated the VERY CUTE, decorated, and warm area we were able to sit in as we enjoyed this treat, which came out very quickly. Definitely stop by here to get you into the holiday cheer! You won't regret it!
Hipster doughnuts and ice cream. It sounds like it would be expensive, but it wasn't quite as bad as I thought. BomboBar is a window on the side of Bar Siena, meaning there's no actual inside seating area. Get some locally made coffee to go with your doughnuts. There's a few vegan friendly sorbettos. A better place to go when it's warm, because there's no indoor seating area. It's just a window on the side of Bar Siena. They're best known for their Bombolini, an Italian style doughnut they sell by the ton. Besides that, the ice cream. Coffee is about $3 a cup. This is brewed by La Colombe, so it's local. As for the ice cream, it has a lot of flavors. It's $5 for a single scoop. The last time here I got the Berry And Mango Swirl Sorbetto. It's non dairy. They have a few others. Cool place literally for some ice cream. It's a place to get doughnuts, ice cream, or even both if you like. There's even ice cream for dogs so you can get some for your friends, and there's a few sorbettos for vegans.
Was not super impressed by the donuts here, and was expecting much more based off of the pictures I've seen on Yelp. First of all this place has no indoor areas, so especially the Chicago cold it was very hard to stay there and order and eat the donut outside even though they had heating lamps. Second of all a lot of the pictures that I've seen advertised have little squeeze bottles that go into the donuts, but when we asked about those they did not have them, and the donuts that we got obviously did not have them either. In terms of the donuts if you're someone who really likes dough, you will enjoy these donuts. The filling was pretty scant and everything was pretty sweet, with not as much balance of flavors as I would've expected. Overall, I don't think I would be back here based off of my experience. I wasn't too big of a fan of the donuts and was definitely not a fan of the false advertising and the lack of indoor space
This was such a disappointment. I read online that they had donut ice cream sandwiches with all different types of toppings- so naturally I had to have one. I went there and they had just reopened after closing for awhile and no longer served them. They also no longer serve their specialty small batch donuts. But I had looked for parking for nearly 30 minutes to go here so I ended up ordering anyway. This is an a part of a restaurant- this is an enclosed patio. They had a heater but they weren't using it and it was pretty cold. My friend and I got a three pack of bomboloni donuts with three dipping sauces - chocolate hazelnut, vanilla, and salted caramel (my favorite). The donuts were made fresh which was nice - they were covered in sugar and pretty delicious. We also had gelato - I had strawberry cheesecake and my friend had Cookie Monster. Overall it was fine but I wouldn't have gone out of my way to come here if I'd known they didn't have the old menu items.
Went to grab a Bomboloni after a Saturday brunch at West Loop. Got the Cookies and Cream Bomboloni and it was delicious. This is a donut which has a filling of oreo custard, vanilla glaze, crushed oreo. The donut was indeed soft and decedent. The reason I gave a 4/5 was because they don't have the Nutella Bomboloni any more which used to be so goood!! If you are looking for a dessert spot which has both homemade gelato and donuts, I would definitely recommend this cute place. It is located at Bar Siena's dessert walk-up window in case you are wondering where it is :) Sad thing is that they have only 1 vegan gelato which is the berry & mango swirl sorbetto :( All this said, I would come back again especially for the bomboloni !!
Finally tried this place out! Now admittedly I'm not a filled donut gal so wouldn't be my first choice BUT if you are, these are worth the visit! Great service at the window, fresh and no wait. We got the 6-pack to taste test all the flavors, of course. We chose (L - R, T - B): - Peanut Butter & Jelly - White Chocolate - Maple Bacon - Cookies & Cream - Pistachio Lemon - Cherry Cheesecake . My favs were the (1) Cherry Cheesecake (2) PBJ and (3) Lemon Pistachio. Good flavors and donut/filling ratios. PBJ surprised me! Pretty good.
I wanted to try Bombobar after dinner because they had interesting desserts. When we got there at 9:30pm they only had the classic donuts and gelato left. Boo oh well. After we ordered they gave us our order on an open tray saying they had nothing to cover it with so we had to take it back to our hotel in the pouring rain. I think i shielded it from the rain successfully enough, he We got vanilla bean and nutella bombolini at $4 each and I'll have to say it was not spectacular. The little squeeze bottle they give for you to squeeze was really hard to get anything out of so i was basically eating a glorified donut. Glad i gave it a try but no thanks on coming back for more.

This is a really cute place and has a lot of hype that I'm not sure it lives up to. The Bombolino is honestly not that much different from a pretty average jelly/whatever filling donut. Although the presentation of the raspberry bombolino I got was very cute and aesthetic, I don't think it was worth what I paid for it. The one thing that was extremely worth was the blueberry lemon gelato they had over the summer. I will probably go back to try their other gelato flavors to see if they are as incredible as the blueberry lemon, but that flavor gelato was definitely a crave-worthy dessert. Pretty decent size too for $4 which I think is reasonable for gelato. There is a small amount of outdoor seating that might have belonged to the adjacent bar, so definitely not a place to go and hang out there but more of a passing place to get some desserts. read more

OMGOSH the bombolinis were amazing. They were truly delicious and worth all the calories. I ordered the 6 bombolini for delivery. The packaging was great. The donuts were not smushed or anything when I got them. I got the Nutella, vanilla bean, salted caramel, s'mores, fruity pebble and milk and cookies and cream donuts. Each was delicious. I loved the idea of being able to squeeze the filling yourself. I will definitely be ordered this again. read more

When I first saw a bombolini the image of a Coronarita came to mind. A Coronarita is a frozen margarita with an upside-down Corona beer bottle sticking out of the margarita glass. The bombolini is, of course, non-alcoholic. It's a sugar donut served with a sweet filling that you squeeze on top of the donut and eat. I ordered the raspberry one. The filling reminded me of a raspberry sauce that is delicately poured over a New York style cheesecake. When I tasted the sugar donut I was reminded how most European desserts can be bland in taste in comparison to American desserts but that isn't a bad thing. The bombolini is an Italian donut that is more like a light sweet bread. As a result, it pairs nicely with the sweet raspberry filling. I also ordered the Carmel chocolate chip cookie and vanilla bean gelato cookie sandwich. It was very good! I tried to bite into it like a deli sandwich but when I did the gelato oozed out on both sides. They provided a spoon so nothing went to waste but I ate the cookies and gelato separately. However, I'll definitely order that cookie sandwich combo again. The gelato was very smooth and dense with a hint of the vanilla bean that tickled the roof of my mouth. I was surprised by the smoothness of the gelato. It was smoother than others gelatos I've had which were a bit stiffer in texture. The service was spot on. The person who helped me was patient in explaining the menu and how to eat the bombolini. I didn't have to wait long either for my order. read more

After having dinner at Bar Siena, we went right over to get dessert! We ordered at their walk up window and got a cookies & cream bombolini and a fruit pebbles bombolini. I enjoyed my cookies and cream treat. But my friend wasn't crazy about the filling her fruit pebbles donut had. Cute spot would return to try other things! read more
Right after Levain Bakery, we decided to check out BomboBar for their renowned Bombolonis! My brother has been here before with my dad, and said that it was a spot that we had to go to before leaving the city! We decided to split one of the Bombolonis since we didn't know what else we may be eating later that day! We tried their cookies and cream bomboloni and it was awesome! It was super fluffy with a nice filling on the inside! The only thing that I was taken aback by was the prices of the Bombolonis and the prices of the hot chocolate! My brother was tempted to get a s'mores hot chocolate that they were advertising on their instagram account, but it was $10 for a hot chocolate, which is a little outrageous in my opinion. Definitely stick with the Bombolonis while you are here, or splurge on the hot chocolate if you have the opportunity! read more
Bombobar is a great little spot next to Bar Siena. It's a cute little window to order some amazing treats like Ice cream, donuts and all kinds of amazingness. After a nice dinner at Bar Siena we decided to grab a 6 pack ( well ...ya know Donuts at least). On the radar was the vanilla, Nutella raspberry ... when those little pillows of goodness came out we had to jump In. The donuts are fresh and still warm and my lord tasted wonderful. It's a cure little fun experience and so yummy! Recommended! Enjoy! read more
We stopped by for dessert in the West Loop area and had the 3 for $5 bombolonis with salted caramel dipping sauce. There was counter service only. Our order was served fresh, quickly. I just wish they still had syringes! read more

I absolutely love the hot chocolate here. It's so rich and comes loaded with toppings. I recommend either sharing or not eating dinner if you're planning on getting a freak hot chocolate at bombobar. While the hot chocolate is amazing, both times I've come to bombobar, they've screwed up my order. Mind you the menu isn't very long, so there's really no excuse to be messing up my order. The first time, they completely left out the brownie in the s'mores hot chocolate, which I was looking forward to the most. The second time, I got the Cookie Monster and they left off the bombolini. When I approached them about it, they said they had run out so they compensated with extra whipped cream... let me just say extra whipped cream is not a replacement for a bombolini, and they should have told me they didn't have any to begin with so I could've had the chance to change my order. So even though the hot chocolate was great, I can only give this place three stars because of the horrible service. read more

Honestly a sad looking presentation in comparison to what was expected from their yelp page. Service felt rushed and no one else was there. Doughnuts overall were warm and fairly decent, but nothing at all special. read more
I heard many good things about this place expecting it to blow my taste buds. I ordered the strawberry short cake and it just taste like strawberry to me but tarte. Where is the shortcake lol I was expecting to at least have either chunks of it or the flavor of it. The cherry gummy was super hard. I could use it as a dog chew toy lol I sadly threw out my ice cream and didn't even make it to the waffle cone let alone the top scoop because I couldn't get through the tarte strawberry. I will say their "one scoop" is generous though. read more

[this review is for the Bomboloni donuts only] Fun, kinda novelty dessert but not something that I'd go to all the time. It's basically a donut dusted with sugar and you get a squeeze bottle of syrup to douse it with - I'm happy I tried it but I'd rather spend my (not-so-)occasional indulgence elsewhere. Details on specific flavors at the bottom. Cute stall on the side of the street, short wait, good service. Nutella was my favorite and only flavor I'd get again; salted caramel has a very strong caramel flavor so caramel-lovers will dig this; fruity pebbles was a little dry since you don't get a squeeze bottle; vanilla was plain and not sweet enough for my fervent sweet tooth (think of a mello a custard flavor) read more

Bombobar is a dessert bar in downtown Chicago that has been made popular by Instagram food photos. Unfortunately, my visit had a much better presentation than taste. If you're looking for more likes on your IG feed, make your way to Bombobar. If you want a good dessert or coffee, look elsewhere. My Overall Rating - NO STARS if I could Atmosphere - Bombobar is not a café or sit down restaurant. It's actually an enclosed outdoor space with a window you order at. The brick wall with the painted Bombobar is very cool, but you will be distracted by the gaudy LED lights. Honestly the vibe felt a bit cheap, and the décor felt like they were tacked on without any thought. No Stars. Service - You order at a window. On my Wednesday evening visit, there was no one manning the window. I had to knock on the window to get their attention, but once I did they were nice. Also, it was an hour before closing so I will give them a small pass. UPDATE: Looks like they made my drink wrong when I compare photos. No Star. Food - Yelp led me to what I thought would be a gem - a hole in the wall. I admit I was drawn in by the numerous photos of the S'mores Hot Chocolate, so I ordered one. First the good: It's great for photos. It comes with a donut that resembles a zeppole (Italian donut). But it was hard to chew, cold, and had no taste. Also, the drink came with ample amounts of whipped cream and marshmallow. But the hot chocolate was watery. I expected something rich, thick, and chocolaty, but it wasn't any of those. In fact, it did not even taste like chocolate. I was very disappointed. In this case, it's much better in your IG feed than in your belly. UPDATE - I just looked at my S'mores Hot Chocolate and it looks like it was missing a lot of items. If I could them NO STAR only I would. No star. Will I Return? - No. Unless you want to take some great photos for your IG feed, avoid Bombobar. You're better off eating an Italian dessert from any of Chicago's fine restaurants. No Stars. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. Deffffffinitely an insta haven if you're into that. I can imagine lines being long on normal (covid free) days, but when we arrived at the outside order window we were first to be served by a peppy young lady. We ordered 4 donuts with raspberry, vanilla, smore's and salted caramel inserts. The concept is cute and it's nice to option inject or drizzle your desired toppings into/onto the donut. The donuts themselves were piping hot when we received, clearly freshly made, soft as cotton candy. With errands to run, we ate them a few hours later and they maintained freshness and deliciousness. Raspberry topping surprisingly was my favorite, you could tell it was a fresh made purée. Salted caramel close second, not overwhelmingly sweet. Vanilla was bland and same with the chocolate (kinda mousse) flavor that accompanied the s'mores. I also ordered a cookie dough shake but was very confused as it tasted like birthday cake overloaded with rainbow sprinkles. Looking back at the menu description I'm pretttty sure I recieved the wrong one. It surely looked pretty was super melted and not my taste. read more

I have been wanting to try Bombobar for sometime and we were fortunate there was no line. We ordered from the outdoor window and I have a scoop of blueberry gelato with raspberry drizzle. It was so refreshing, but I could not taste the lavender at all. My husband had the chocolate peanut butter shake, of course, topped with a mini donut. Both were very good, but a bit pricey. Definitely worth to try at least once. read more

Quick service you can just walk up to their window outside and order right away. I loved the white chocolate malt bombolini. It was nice and warm and the perfect flavor! They have plenty of seating for you to enjoy your dessert. Can't wait to visit again! read more
Have you had a Bomboloni before? They're delicious. Going to Bar Siena for brunch, get one then. Looking for a snack to accompany your cocktail? Perfect. In search of a tasty dessert or Instagram-able treat? They have you covered. If you can only order one, I highly recommend the Salted Caramel. I once I had a friend just squeeze the whole tube in her mouth and get another one for the actual donut. It's that good! If you don't already know, you can order from inside Bar Siena to accompany your meal OR go to the walk up window on the side of the building. Open almost year round (probably closed during a polar vortex). Enjoy! read more
I decided to try BomboBar after hearing a lot about this place from my fiends. I truly enjoyed the Nutella Bombolini. I was a bit disappointed by the lack of seating. The Stracciatella Gelato was amazing! I was however, a little bit disappointed in the double chocolate gelato as it literally had big chunks of ice in it. read more

After a cold winter date night in the city we decided to warm up with a hot chocolate from Bombobar. It's such an aesthetically pleasing presentation but I'm more for quality of flavor. This coco tasted watered down and from a packet. For the price they sell I expected it to be a little better. It's also very hard to find parking around and limited seating. The original hot chocolate is so delicious! It's thicker than normal hot chocolate; italmost as thick as drinking chocolate. It tastes like high quality chocolate. My boyfriend got the s'mores and it was epic; I mean that thing is jam packed with stuff. It was too much for him to eat after having a big meal because it's a meal in and of itself! But he loved it and ate and drank as much as he could. read more

Did the build your own gelato sandwich option: chose the charcoal Oreo ice cream inside the bombolini with chocolate drizzle and Oreo pieces. Delicious! This was my first visit here and will definitely be back. Just as a side, seems like lots of plastic waste with their mini squeeze bottles? I didn't get a menu item that had that but I saw others who did. Not sure if they were plastic but seems totally wasteful? I'm not expert but just a thought. read more

This would be a good place to hang if you're waiting on your text from Au Cheval. Not probably the best since you'll be having desserts before dinner but I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time now. I'm not a fan of shakes and wasn't in the mood for gelatos with the 44 degrees fall Chi weather so I opted for the bombolini - an Italian hole-less donut served with your choice of filling. It's basically a sugar doughnut with a squeeze me bottle of the filling you prefer. You have the option for Nutella, Caramel, Birthday Cake and the like. I personally found it just so-so. Not impressed. It's very messy depends on how much filling you squeeze into the donut. Although I have been stalking the IG page for some time now (back when I used to live here in Chicago) and their shakes are instagram-worthy. Heaps of whip cream, sauce, cotton candy and mini donut on a stick and all that type of stuff. Maybe come summer time I'll give those a try! PS They also sell burgers but of course, I'd rather get burgers from Au Cheval instead :) read more

Hard to like this place because when I stop by, I can never get anything on the menu. They always tell me they don't have it or it's sold out. Believe me, I love BomboBar but it's hard to come here. I get second hand embarrassment when I bring out-of-towners or friends here because they never have anything available. I've been trying to get a hot chocolate or even try that peanut butter shake but have to always settle on a single scoop ice cream flavor that usually isn't my favorite. But they usually have donuts that's a plus. Hopefully they can fix this issue. I always come hours before they close too read more
Got the classic hot chocolate ($5) and it was ok. It came covered in a mountain of whipped cream dotted with chocolate chips. The hot chocolate underneath was fairly rich and smooth but there was some kind of flavor I can't put my finger on (cornstarch? idk) that wasn't super enjoyable but not horribly unpleasant. Kind of hoped for a more chocolatey, nice flavor instead of a weird one. What I liked was that it wasn't overly sweet and the liquid was very well blended and not too thick or runny. You also get a pretty big cup, which I recommend sharing. Sidenote: really wish they (and everywhere else) would embrace sustainable straws or eliminate them altogether. Those little plastic bottles for their donuts should also be made more eco-friendly somehow. read more

This is an awesome shop for desserts. I got the "Choc of the town" shake and it was one of the craziest shakes I've had in a while. It had a mini donut on the straw (a bombolini) AND a double chocolate cookie dipped in the shake. This is the closest thing I've seen to a "freakshake" in quite some time. If you're wondering about how it looks, I will say that it is very instagrammable! Items: double chocolate chip cookie, chocolate chip bomboloni, fudgesicle gelato Despite the shake being very deensee in chocolate I found the shake to be not very overwhelming. Don't breathe too closely to the shake after getting your shake though, otherwise you might inhale the chocolate crumbles! Overall, I found the different chocolates to all complement each other very well. I do think gelatos are good as a shake since they have mo roe milk than cream andd are not as airy. The silkier texture translates to a betterr drink. I was quite full after finishing this shake! Highly recommend these shakes. read more
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend anyone go here. I have regretted this decision for the last 4 days. My boyfriend had the lime gelato and got sooooo sick in the next 12 hours. It was the only thing that he had that I didn't have in the day so we know it's the culprit. Either they are unclean or just have bad food preservation practices. But just please save your health and do not go here. I had the chocolate shake and I was fine. The taste was chocolatey but nothing exceptional. I highly recommend you avoid this place. No. I think that is the nature of the dessert. That it has a filling. Otherwise its just a donut.

Not all of the time but MOST of the time from what I have heard. When I was there on a Tuesday night the line seemed long but not out the door like it usually is. I had to wait about 15 minutes to get to the front and then another 7-10 minutes to…
What are their weekend hours? On the website it says 9p-11p but on yelp it says 8am-11pm...
If you click the link on their IG page, it says weekends are from 9am-11pm.

I'd like to bring an older kid for a treat, but he's scared of dogs...are there always dogs there or is that a rarity?
I went in the winter. I didn't see any dogs.
How are the prices?
My drink was 9 dollars but it was big and it has a lot of things. It was very worth it, they have many options under 9 dollars for drinks.
Are the lines crazy long on a Wednesday evening?
I do not think they are long during the weekdays as much as the weekends. But the times i've been there the line moves fairly quick.
Are the hotter chocolates on their menu year round?
Nope, I went last week and they switched the Hotter Chocolate to an iced version called the Cooler Chocolate. Still very good though.
Is there an inside area for eating as well?
Yes! You can eat at the bar, or a high top table!
Would I still be able to eat a bombolini even if I came late or would they run out?
They make them until they close. So yes!
