Absolutely Disappointed -- Not Family Friendly…read more We chose Emery Brothers Skate Rink for my son's birthday celebration, hoping to give him a fun day with family and friends. Unfortunately, what we encountered was one of the most disrespectful and disappointing experiences we've ever had at a family venue. To start, the bathrooms were filthy and clearly not being maintained. The woman at the front desk was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I was told--quite aggressively--that I couldn't walk my toddler on the skate floor because my regular shoes would "ruin the floor." Meanwhile, they offer beat-up, decades-old rental skates that were clearly in worse condition than any clean sneakers. Instead of addressing the situation politely, she shouted at me over the intercom and even blew a whistle at me in front of everyone. It was humiliating and completely unnecessary. We also weren't allowed to put up any small decorations or even bring in cupcakes to celebrate my son's birthday. To make matters worse, she became hostile when I brought in water for myself and my son. I have a medical condition that requires medicated water, and my son is autistic and has very specific needs for hydration. We were told that since they "sell water," we couldn't bring our own--even for medical reasons. That is unacceptable and discriminatory. The only saving grace of the day was the incredible magician we hired, who truly made the kids smile. Even children who weren't part of the birthday group were absolutely captivated by his performance. Bottom line: Think twice before going here if you're looking for a family-friendly, inclusive, or respectful environment. We will never return. But if you're looking for an amazing magician to bring the fun to your next party, let me know--I can't recommend ours enough. He was the highlight of the day and made a difficult situation a little brighter.

The best thing about this skating rink is that it is local and there are very few skating rink in Southern Illinois. It seems clean, although it is so dark it is hard to tell. The staff are nice. They welcome groups. They definitely need to repair the skating floor.

I had to try on 3 different pairs of skates on and he had to try 4 different ones. None of the shoes were fitting right, either too big or too small so we finally gave up because we couldn't skate at all with them on. We arrived at 7:10pm and left at 7:30pm and the staff said they couldn't do a refund for the skates or the admission itself. She never once said I'm sorry. She never said she'd help me find the right shoes, so we left with no refund ever after being there for only 20 minutes. What a joke.
