Fairly large beach with some good waves. They have areas blocked off where surfers have to avoid to give the body boarders and swimmers some safety. This is a good plan as there are a lot of inexperienced surfers who don't really know what they are doing and they could definitely hurt someone when they fall and fire their board in some random direction. They do warn about strong current and the shore break, while everyone should be careful, this is not like the current in the North Shore of Oahu or the shore break at Sandys in Hawaii. The water is very cold. I would compare the water temperature to San Diego, CA. The area has a lot of shops and places to eat. Also has a centrally located large bathroom. read more

A famous beach spot, and I can see why! Pristine sand, clear blue waters, great eateries and stores nearby, this beach is perfect. The beach is pretty big, so even though there were a lot of beachgoers, it didn't feel like it was too crowded. This was recommended to me as an absolute must do while in Sydney and it was a well populated beach. Lots of people playing ball, laying out, enjoying the water. If you have the time, i suggest you do the costal walk from Bondi to Coogee as it did not disappoint. The walk was serene and beautiful but long, so I was grateful to have my camera, music, and water bottle. There are stations to fill up your bottle along the way. As many note, Bondi is crowded and touristy; the water is a bit chilly and choppy, and not the best spot for swimming. Yet, in my opinion, Bondi is a beautiful beach and its positive qualities far, far outweigh any of its potentially negative qualities. Re: touristy and crowded - that depends on what other spot you might be comparing it to. Having spent a good deal of time at California's beaches and beach communities, I didn't find the crowding at Bondi to be particularly bad. As for being touristy - eh, I was a tourist, what can I say? ;-P Yes, the water was cold when I was there, but my understanding is that it warms up. If you want balmier swimming, head to Bondi in the fall around March or so when temps are at their highest. Since I was there to surf, the chop was welcome, and I was happy it picked up even a little more in the afternoon. And let's talk about that water for a minute - it's crystal clear and turquoise like the Caribbean! It was hard for me to believe it was from the same murky, opaque Pacific Ocean that I surf in off the coast of California. Bondi the beach community - beachy but somehow a bit less tacky than the beach towns lining the coast of California. Very friendly shops and reasonably-priced restaurants. Public restrooms and showers, as well as lifeguards make it easy to enjoy your time at Bondi. read more

Which end of Bondi Beach should you swim and bake and preen at? Here's my three cents (I found an extra one in the sand with my metal detector): South End: a little rougher, a little rippier, and with way more chavs and soft sand runners. And that's okay, if you're an independent person looking to do their own thing, or if you want to nap or get bizzay with a thick book. North End: Gentler, prettier, with a higher proportion of Beautiful PeopleTM with beautiful bodies than anywhere else on the eastern seaboard, possibly the planet. Come to see and be seen in your smallest togs, with your bestest tan. Got a few hours to kill? Do it here, then toddle up to the party grass for some sundowners. I adore Bondi Beach. So easy to get to (train to Bondi Junction, bus to the coast), free WiFi, has showers, beautiful murals viewable from the water, the Pavilion right on across the street for all your dining needs, and of course, beautiful waves and views. I spent a day sleeping on the sand and swimming, and another doing the coastal walk to Coogee, which took an hour and a half. Highly recommend enjoying Bondi both ways. read more

I promise you that I kept my top on the entire time I was at the beach. Really. Even at the tail end of the summer season in Australia, this beach was crowded on a Saturday. People were laying out in the sun, and many brave souls were frolicking in the water. The water was calm and the sun was hot. I understand that this is one of the most popular tourist beaches, however not one of the most highly rated beaches in the area. Reminded me of Hawaii beaches - where I stay far away from the tourist beaches and would never rate them highly. It seems as if transplants from many other areas and other countries seem to really embrace this resort area. There is also a great deal of growth and construction in the area, which clearly showed a direction to better accommodate the hordes of people flocking to the area. Over all, it was a beach. A nice place to people watch. There are a variety of touristy shops and eateries on the main drag through this area. I suppose one could spend a good amount of time just hanging out here. Another one of those places to be. Honestly, I probably would have preferred heading to one of the other more secluded beaches to enjoy some Australian sun. read more

All of the reasons people complain about Bondi (too many people, not enough parking, tourists everywhere, way too crowded on the weekends, beefcakes everywhere) just go to prove that this is one of the most beautiful and accessible beaches in the world and that everyone (tourists, surfers, beefcakes... everyone) wants to be here. So either beat 'em and head down the coastal walk to Tama or Bronte, or join 'em - grab a Cali-iiiiiiiiiiippo and an umbrella, enjoy the perfect sand and surf, sunbathe on the rocks and grass, and revel in the fact you're where nearly everyone else in the world would rather be. read more

Holy Santa Clause sh*t! This place is amazing! I was staying in the King's Cross part of Sydney for 5 nights, and "Bondi Beach" was recommended by friends from the area. I was glad I didn't miss out! I hopped a train from KC, which goes all the way to the Bondi station. The buses will pick you up from there and take you to the beach front. (The train station will sell both the train ticket and the bus ticket). The first thing you notice when coming down the road to see Bondi Beach for the first time is its sweeping scape. Like a postcard in motion, it truly is a photographic treat for your friends and memories. Shops line the street, selling everything from "Bondi" Tshirts to upscale paintings. On either ends of the beach, are clusters of homes and condos...some of them remind me of a scene from the Greek islands. I believe this beach has been ranked either with the Travel channel or from some magazine. The waves are pretty serious, but the surfers and bodyboarders (spongers) don't seem to mind. It did seem a bit crowded, but everyone was in really great shape so that didn't seem to matter either. Bring sun screen! I got fried just walking around for 30 min. There are bathrooms located at the center of the beach in an area on the beach side which has food, sundries, paintings, and a pretty decent coffee shop. If you don't make it up to Manly Beach, Bondi is definitely a great contingency! read more

This is a beautiful beach with breathtaking scenery. I think I was a fish in my past life, because I too LOVE anything water related. I was in love the moment I stepped off the 380 bus from Bondi Junction. The beach views simply took my breath away. It was a warm Wednesday afternoon so there were no crowds and there was more than enough room to spread out, wiggle my toes, and take panoramic photos. I appreciated the vibrant blue water and cleanliness of the beach. The shops along the boardwalk were nice to pass the time away, and there were plenty of places to stop for Swiss ice cream, gelato, smoothies, and other grab-n-go take always; I opted to do more serious shopping at Westfield Bondi. read more

Bondi Beach is a stunningly beautiful beach with a crescent shape, golden sand, great surf, and even a beachside pool. It's a great place to take a stroll and watch the surfers. I was here in September though, so it was too cold to swim unfortunately, but we had a nice time exploring the beach and people watching. Tip: Get a postcard worthy photo from up at the top of the hill, looking down on beach, where the bus drops you off. read more

Ok, so if you have more than a couple of days in Sydney and want to visit the infamous Bondi Beach, definitely take a trip over there to soak up the atmosphere, watch the surfers, and dip your toes in the South Pacific. If, however, you only have a short amount of time in Sydney and don't have your heart set on visiting Bondi, I would suggest you give it a miss or try out one of the area's less "famous" beaches such as Tamarama. Bondi, while spectacular, is large and fairly commercialised, with views that would be more beautiful if not for the hordes of people and, in some cases, fairly tacky seaside shops. While it's certainly one of Sydney's most famous beaches, I would suggest that Bondi is not the top choice if your time is limited. read more

This is a nice beach away from the Sydney CBD where you can chill out and enjoy the sun. Lots of surfing and plenty of food options nearby (the further from beach, the lower the prices). I stayed at Airbnb here and it was fantastic. I recommend doing the Bondi to Coogee walk if you have the time - I suggest walking to Coogee and Uber back. There are a couple of beaches along the walk that are less touristy and IMO better beaches. read more

One of the great things about Sydney is all of the outdoor activities, so we wanted to check out Bondi Beach during our trip. It was a subway and a bus trip away, so it wasn't very hard to get to from the CBD. It was a nice, sunny day, and wasn't too hot. There was a decent amount of people there, but I wouldn't say it was overly crowded (we visited during a weekday). There are great views of the water from the beach, and a row of shops and restaurants across the street. We didn't stay very long at Bondi Beach, but I was glad that I got a chance to visit on a nice summer day. read more

Parking is very very challenging and it's best to catch public transport there. Busses are frequent from Bondi junction station. O Bondi... where do I begin? well, it's on the world's bucket list and a whole world can't be wrong... It attracts a different crowd compared to Manly - there is more people watching here. Yes, it gets crowded but just wait till you come to my city... It will teach you the true meaning of CROWDED... so, the scattered groups of beach lovers on a massive beach didn't bother me at all. (Come super early or late in the afternoon if you really want to avoid people.) However, I will agree that the bus ride was awful... Upon moving to Sydney, I avoided Bondi Beach for two years. Everyone told me that there was nothing special about it, simply that it had made itself a name and was now held to international acclaim. When I asked people which beach we should head to, they automatically ruled out Bondi (and often it went without saying), based on the fact that it would be too busy, parking too expensive and not that nice anyway. It took me two years to discover my own path and to realise that there was cause for Bondi's acclaim. Bondi's expansive beach churns out sets of long smooth waves, varying in size and force. The last time I was there Bondi would have been the perfect place to learn to surf with its smooth calm sets, and plenty of tourists were taking the opportunity with lessons from one of many of Bondi's surf schools. You can get free two hour parking if you venture a couple of blocks from the main street (don't get sucked into paying $7.60, it's not worth that couple hundred metres). Once you're at the beach you can hire a bunch of equipment, such as lounge chairs ($10 for 3 hours, $15 for whole day), surfboards ($15 per hour), towels, wetsuits, bodyboards and fins. Plus, there are people wandering the beach selling cold drinks and Calippos - it's like they can read your mind. Yes, on weekends it's quite busy. Like, struggle to find room to throw your towel busy. Luckily, the shore is wide enough to accommodate so many people and if you get there early enough in the morning then it's not too bad. And if the hoards do tend to get to you, then take a walk along the Bondi to Bronte path - it's a beautiful walk and you'll be rewarded no matter which beach you end up at. read more

I like to catch the bus from downtown to the beach. It is a beautiful beach. Very crowded. I love the atmosphere.

Bondi, Bondi, Bondi. By day, this iconic stretch of sand and water houses an interesting mix of locals and travelers, young and old(er). The beach is full of bikini clad, bathing beauties and water filled with people on surfboards, boogie boards or paddleboards. The shops at the beach's edge buzz with energy as people browse for new thongs, grab a coke to cool down or hang up their floaties long enough to order some lunch. Day turns into night, however and all Bondi bets are off. The energy gets more aggressive here, and quick. Where the beach uniform of swimsuit and bare feet once ruled, the night costume of skintight dress and 5 inch heels now dominates. The pubs and nightclubs, particularly Ravesis on the corner, fill up fast. While I won't pass judgment on the Bondi club crowd as a whole, it's just not my type of scene. In a land where "super awesome" reigns when the sun shines and superficiality takes over after dark, I am always left with mixed feelings about Bondi Beach. But that's okay, it probably has mixed feelings about me right back. read more

Bondi Beach. If you live anywhere in the surrounding suburbs Bondi is a magnate. Love it or hate it you cannot avoid it. Whether you hit the sand and the surf - which is a very crowded affair come the middle of summer. Or grab a table at one of Bondi Pavillion's cafes / restaurants. Or if you just kick back on the massive grassy park areas which fringe the entire beach it's a great place to hang out. Bondi Beach is an experience. And it is pretty impressive. It isn't the most beautiful, nor the coolest - mostly it's the most touristy, busy and annoying. But i love to grab a paper and a coffee or grab an icecream or even a takeaway meal and find a nice grassy spot in the sun to sit and watch the beach and all the action. I visited this beach in mid March '08 & I was really disappointed - I think that it is the most over-rated beach In Aus!!! Im sure its fantastic for surfing, but I just dont get all the hype about it! However, it does have a redeeming point to it! If you take a stroll along the board-walk, you will find an amazing display of graffiti art-work & I spent loads of time mesmerised by all these wonderful creations of art. - Make sure you've got your camera handy :o) Along the main front, is the usual array of shops, selling souveneirs & surf-wear which can be found in many touristy areas, so you are not missing out on anything spectacular there either. ...at least I can say Ive bin thereand I did buy a t-shirt too! lol read more

Growing up here.... i had sudden memories running through my head the other day of what it was like to be here almost 10 years ago before my departure to San Francisco. Growing up.... the kick it spot was the Beach. I still remember those times after school where we would just go grab ice cream cones and skateboard down the paths by the beach. Damn... I got my Vitamin D back then..... Bondi Beach is something off a Post Card. The views are stunning, golden sand and cool local shops on the main street. There was also a playground.... where all the kids use to hit up but I am not sure if it still exists. It sucks .. that San Francisco has nothing like this because nature is something most people take for granted. Beaches have always been part of my childhood and to have called Bondi my Home... makes me miss it all the time. Ill be back. read more
