Well, wife and I have probably had more dinners at Bonefish than we have had at any other "chain" restaurant over many years ... we have spent birthdays, holidays, and general date nights at the Grill. We have always rated as superb ... i.e., 5-stars. Well ... our last 2 or 3 visits have clearly dropped that rating. Recently, the menu has shrunk as well as portions ... which we can surely live with. However, the service level has shrunk by yet a greater amount. At our last visit, we were seated in a timely manner with our reservation ... were greeted by the server and given out water with "I'll be right back" for drinks and appetizer orders. Nearly 30 minutes passed and one of our party accosted the manager ... who defended server as "he is busy" and the "kitchen is busy" ... after this ridiculous answer ... we left and went to another restaurant. We will not be back to Manalapan, NJ location ... and probably not to any other Bonefish in the foreseeable future. read more

3 stars and that's being generous already. If you do dine here, stick to their grilled fish and seafood. The "fancy" dishes they have just don't cut it. Pad Thai shrimp is pad-thai-tic haha. Oh and the Margarita tasted like sea water. Ordered a premium side of asparagus and they came out with 7 half sprigs, boiled to mushiness. Worst $7 spent on a side dish. Any redeeming factor, you ask? Maybe the bread with olive oil dip. Service felt tired but that I can forgive because we were one of the late dinner customers. AVOID AT ALL COSTS ! Let me start out by saying this might be the worst dining experiences in my entire life. We were enjoying the night at the local Manalapan National Police night and decided to go to the Bonefish Grill since it was just around the corner. Boy was that a mistake. Once we got seated we waited over 15 minutes for someone to even glance our way. Finally our server surfaced and she decided to dump the entire plate of bread into our friends 3 month old daughters carrier. ( no apology ) Then once we fired the order in the server basically told us that most things had tiny portions and wouldn't suggest half the menu, quite odd....We then waited over 40 minutes for appetizers to come and only delivered half of what we ordered. When we asked were the calamari was he was like ohh the food runner dropped it. Another 10 minutes went by and along comes the calamari, which might I add tasted like it was under a heat lamp since the restaurant opened. Disgusting !!! The cake topper was when we were approaching an hour and a half for our entrees. Keep in mind this was now 9:30pm with about 4 total tables left in the restaurant 2 of which were employees who were done for the night and stuffing their faces. We asked several times where the food was and was just told "its coming" After another 10 minutes went by we told them to keep their entrees and we were outta here ! From there the manager came over who was equally as clueless as the wait staff. Complete mope & didn't have a clue how to run a restaurant. Unapologetic, at a loss for words, and a dumb stare is all we got. I've had better service at my local fast food establishment. This place is a complete disgrace ! I love Bonefish, but I was disappointed in this branch. My go-to Bonefish is located at the Mall strip at Iselin, Nj. I came here yesterday night with my family and we all didn't particularly like the food. Even if the food is generally not that great tasting, I usually don't return it back to the kitchen. However, last night was an exception. I ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna, I took one bite, and spit the piece back out. The middle of the fish was still frozen and the taste was extremely off. It deterred me from ordering another kind of fish and I ended up just ordering an appetizer for my entree. Our oysters weren't fresh and the other fish pieces (cod, salmon and fish tacos) were salty. The manager did come out to apologize and personally brought out my second dish (therefore I'm giving 2 stars for decent service). I ended up ordering the Josephine Mussels because I know at least that is never a failure. read more

So much for taking care of business. Food was DELICIOUS enjoyed the salads and BAM BAM Shrimp. However the service was pitiful from waitress to hostess/management. I asked for water 3 times the wine came and still no water, God forbid you finished the water good luck getting a refill because the waitress didn't come back to check on us. My appetizer was forgotten instead put with my entree and my entree reduced to just meat -___- Was it busy you ask? NO 9 tables seated and 4-5 waitresses/waiters. When i expressed my dissatisfaction and requests with the host/management staff instead of just handling the request or talking to the waitress she merely asked her again, thus we waited longer. Went to BFG Manalapan a few weeks ago and had a superb meal. The new ceviche appetizer served in a glass made of carved ice was delicious...and a clever idea. I almost always get the lobster tails. As usual they were tender...none of that chewy stuff that some lobster tails have in other restaurants. Had a side that was like scalloped potatoes with a scrumptious cheese sauce baked into it. The three servers who tended our table were as charming and friendly as can be without being overbearing. BTW my friend had the stuffed pork chops and hasn't stopped talking about how "succulent" (her word) they were. Looking forward to returning soon. read more

Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service, exceptionally delicious food. The Bang Bang Shrimp app was incredibly delicious... just the right amount of spicy sweetness. We ordered the Shrimp and Scallops, and the Sirloin and Crabcakes. Both were amazing. The crabcakes were chock full of fresh crab meat, not so much filler. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and the shrimp were wonderfully flavorful. The sirloin was more done than I usually like, but, that was because they cook it exactly to your specs (imagine that!). I'm so accustomed to getting steaks that are undercooked when I order them medium, that I've gotten in the habit of ordering medium well. No need to do that here. They apparently know how to cook a steak! To accompany my meal, I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir. I have no idea what kind they brought me... I asked for the bar tender's suggestion, and it too was delicious. We finished off the meal with creme brulee. What a treat! Rich and creamy, crispy sugar topping... a fabulous way to punctuate a fabulous meal. We were extremely pleased. I only gave four stars because the portions are rather small for the price. Still very worth it. We'll definitely be going back. I'm looking forward to it! read more

Another okay chained restaurant. Menu is quite limited but it does have more choices for fish then other restaurants. I have been here a couple times and I am satisfied with my meals. Their featured appetizer is the Bang Bang shrimp which is basically fried shrimp coated in spicy mayo. It does taste good but so does most things coated in mayo. Most of their fish entrees are grilled fish filet (you pick what kind of fish you want) with a choice of dressing or sauce to accompany it. So basically, the fish is prepared minimally which is probably the best way to cook a good quality piece of fish. I recently found out they serve brunch on Sunday's. I tried it once and the brunch is quite decent and best of all it is not crowded. They have egg benedicts, omelette, french toast, etc. Since they have liquor license, you get the option of a mimosa. All in all, it's a decent alternative if you want to dine out and not have burgers and fried or Italian in this neighborhood. read more

Ate there last night. The good: food was solid as we have dined at many locations in the past. The bad: the service was abysmal. They were so unorganized from a reservation perspective, what happen to the buzzers they gave you when you arrived? Sat 2 couples before us who arrived after us ( we all requested booths). Sever was talking to other tables and never came back to us. Never asked if we wanted another drink or how are meal was. We had to ask another waiter to get our plates cleared. We have visited this restaurant many times. It is convenient, given its location only 15 minutes from our home. The food has consistently been good but the service spotty, at best. Been to Bonefish in Manalapan many times (bartender knows our drinks, sad) the happy hour menu and drink specials never ever change. annoying but whatever. however last night we had our usual calamari and beef sliders. heartburn to end all heartburn ALL NIGHT LONG AND INTO THE NEXT DAY. The mussels appetizer was delicious and I may order it as my meal the next time. I ordered the salmon and shrimp special. The salmon was covered in a artichoke and Parmesan dressing that tasted like the dip just plopped on top of the overcooked salmon. The 3 shrimp on the side were small and could hardly be seen on the plate. The asparagus was good. But, if you are going to advertise shrimp as main part of the dish and pay $26.00 you would expect large shrimp, almost prawn size. The second entree was a grilled scallop and shrimp dinner, the portion was very small and almost could not be seen on the white plate. Plating was minimal. Just had curbside pick up. Ordered mahi & tein lobster tails. We were very impressed everything tasted amazing even the veggies. Mahi mahi was like buttah & the steamed asparagus was delish. I was told by family members that this place was fantastic, so I figured I would give it a try. After making a reservation, I still had to wait for 15 minutes before being told the wait was much longer than expected, and I should eat outside if I wanted quick service. I didn't mind this, but I found it strange that they couldn't accommodate me after I had a reservation. Once outside, the service was pretty bad. Our waitress brought us bread and drinks, then took the orders of other guests who arrived after us. After 20 minutes of this, we could finally order. Once we ordered, it took 15 more minutes for our food to be brought out, and here's the kicker: half of the food they brought out wasn't what we ordered! The manager came out and was super apologetic, but the cook who came out to check our order (which wasn't even made yet) was outright rude to us, and then still got the side for an order wrong. This wasn't an isolated incident either; the group behind us had similar issues. This being said, the manager took 75% off our bill for the awful service. Also, the food was pretty good, but not worth suffering through this for. Overall, I'd recommend eating at another location. Edit: lost another star because it took 30 minutes for the waiter to get our bill. read more

I took my daughter here for her birthday and we really had a wonderful time. Our server was sweet and attentive and made our dining experience awesome The Hawaiian martinis were yummy and also beautiful to look at. Our entrees were delicious especially the salmon with mango salsa and mashed sweet potatoes. We have been coming here since they opened and love it! We always start off with their "Bang Bang Shrimp" appetizer. There is nothing like it, crunchy shrimp with a sauce that makes you want more! I always order some sort of fish and have never been disappointed. My favorite being the grilled Salmon with lemon butter. They also have delicious wines and make fabulous cocktails too! UPDATE: Our money was returned and we received dinner passes. Management did the right thing. Upgrading my rating. My wife and I love Bonefish. The food is typically very good and tasty. We went to Manalapan location for the first time. As expected the food and service were good. However, both of us got very sick when we got home a couple of hours later. My stomach is typically very tolerant and I rarely get sick from food. But even I felt very bad. It was definitely food poisoning. We are never going back to Manalapan location! read more

My daughter and I had dinner here one mouth ago and it was terrible. The waiter was great but the food and the 2 young hostesses were not good. My daughter ordered Chilean sea bass and it was mushy along with the green beans. Not good. Food: Both the Bang Bang Shrimp and the Shrimp stuffed with Lobster were way too rich. The flavors had no subtlety at all. I barely tasted any lobster, it actually tasted like imitation crab meat. Price: Overpriced, considering the quality. Service: Friendly and efficient. The food is always very well prepared and the service very good. However, too many of the dishes are prepared too spicy for my tastes. Even when I ask them if a particular dish is spicy and told it is not, I find out that it is. This limits me to only a few dishes on their menu. read more

We visited the Bonefish Grill at this location when they first opened and had a terrible experience. Much of it had to do with growing pains and staff getting used to the menu etc. So I gave them a pass and reluctantly went back months later thinking the kinks would be ironed out. Boy was I wrong! Rude Rude Rude is the attitude at this "chain" restaurant. The front staff could care less about jobs and spent time chatting with each other completely neglecting to pay attention to those coming in trying to be seated which created a large backflow. The manager here is a jerk here as well which reflects in the staffs attitude. The only saving grace from 1 star was the food was not bad and pricing wasn't either. But I cannot stand bad service not matter the quality of the food. I will not be returning. read more

I love Bonefish in Manalapan. The atmosphere is great and very welcoming from the time you walk through the door. Food is always served fresh and delicious. Servers and staff are very accommodating and pleasant. I have yet to have a meal that I wasn't happy with. Portions are a good value for the money. Highly recommend!! read more
