While many are fine, Grey Matter, Troubadour, and Federal Street Books in Greenfield are the three I return to again and again. Now that Troubadour and Grey Matter merged their stock (sort of), this has really become a can't-miss stop. If the Montague Book Mill is "Books You Don't Need in a Place You Can't Find," Grey Matter is "Books You Don't Want to Miss, in a Location that You Might." I never have enough time to check out all I need to check, and I always come away with a great find, and a great deal. Add to that the quirky humor and smarts of the owner and staff... Oh, just go!

As other Yelpers have stated, this store is packed with "inventory of every genre and subject", but just nothing for me. On a side note, I'm almost happy I didn't buy anything here today. The clerk was sitting at a desk right near the front entrance, no acknowledgement of me entering or leaving the place. Would it hurt you to say, "Hello" ? Sorry, lack of customers skills irks me a bit. Anyway, got back in the vehicle and headed to the next Used bookstore !

As a West Coaster I have many bookstores to patronize and usually order from Amazon as I read as…read moremuch as I can. However after finding this little gem of a bookstore I can now say I order from Broadside! The shipping is more than reasonable and the selection is as all encompassing as I see online. The staff is tenured and reliable, one of the staff "Brenna" keeps a running log of what I read and like and when they have three or four they go ahead and charge my card and ship them out. It is so delightful to find a package of books waiting for me when I get home, I just dive right in. Thanks Broadside, Brenna and the rest of the fabulous crew for making reading even more fun.

In addition to books of all genres, they sell a lot of adorable book related accessories - I do regret not getting the book earrings, but love my ribbon bookmark (the purchase of which helps with community hunger). They also have POSTCARDS! There's a bunch of local cards for Northampton and Smith, and the rest of vintage pictures, political, or just best described as random (but would be perfect for someone out there). I even picked up a free bookmark at checkout and enjoyed talking to Lexi, the owner, who is super welcoming and passionate about providing books, art and positivity in her community. Can I just tell you how SUPER PSYCHED I am that a) this…read morebookstore is actually still open (when you drive by, it often looks like it's closed) b) it's just down the street from my house c) they have an absolute TON of books Upon first glance, Redbrick (one word) looks like a relic of times past. The red brick industrial building has it's own parking lot, which is a bit of a kamikaze move to get into. Once inside, you're surrounded on all fronts by books upon books upon books. A treasure trove of literature! The books are grouped into general sections: children's, self-help, religion, cookbooks, fiction, classics, romance, etc. The distinctions between these groups aren't as clear as they could be, so this bookstore is more for the patient, the ones who get great joy out of finding a really cool classic or a collection of stories from their childhood. It will take awhile to peruse the whole store, but I guarantee you'll find some winners in there. Most of the books (paperback, hardback) and magazines are from decades past. I saw few "newer" books on the shelves interspersed. Some of the books, particularly the children's books and those by the windows, have had their covers sun-bleached. I, for one, love the classics and enjoy collecting antique books and quite enjoyed myself here. Many of their older books (away from the windows) have aged very well. I purchased two of Hemingway's novels, another smaller antique book, and a fictional hardback from the 70s, with a very "period" cover. We spent the better part of an hour in there, enjoying the opportunity to browse! Check out is toward the front, where a husband and wife team sit and chat, read, or browse the web. Being in business for 34 years (!), you know they really have a true love for literature and I really hope they have no intention of closing down. Their prices are pretty affordable: the four books (2 classics, 1 antique, and 1 retro) came to about $14. And, as a note, they do accept debit cards for purchases over $10. A sign spattered about the store claims that most books are 50% off, unless written otherwise inside the cover. If you're a bibliophile, an avid reader, a book collector, an imaginative mind, you'll absolutely love stepping back in time at Redbrick. I highly recommend this as a "cool" place to spend a little time and a little cash.

Since the Curious Cat is one shop from the corner, the parking is close. The store has a great use of space. There are books aplenty, with something for everyone. There's adult, teen, and child with different sections like local available. But there are also a lot of cute gift items, like a table of high end stickers, book tote bags, and locally made candles with scents like "indie books". Definitely watch their Facebook and Instagram - the store has three book clubs they're starting which are fun with great options! They're also later in the day so even working people can go!

Located inside of the Village Square is tons of small shops and restaurants, one being the Odyssey Bookstore. Offering two levels of books, endless selections, and tons of cool merchandise, this bookstore will not leave you disappointed. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. I love that I was able to support a local, women-owned shop. Books were priced accordingly with tons of good deals available. I can't wait to make another trip out this way so I can visit again!

I've been raiding these shelves for decades. Over the years I pulled out Katherine Raine's excellent two-volume set of William Blake studies, a first edition for review of John Updike's Carpentered Hen, and a signed first edition of Stephen Spender's first book of poems published by Fabers in 1933! All these books were well under $20 each. A first edition of Elizabeth Bishop's Geography III for $10? Yes, please. A proof copy of the first edition of J. G. Ballard's The Atrocity Exhibition with proof dust jacket for $10? OK, if you insist. A first of Raymond Carver's Will You Please Be Quiet Please for $20? Surest thing you know. Pencil-whipping used books appears to be a specialty here, and for the serious collector on limited funds, the place is an absolute God-send! A marvelous place to visit and well worth the ride out from Northampton's numerous troves of used and rare books.

They have old classics in fantastic condition, and the newest selections with everything in between. Boswell is the cutest cat who I had the pleasure of being followed by during my 30 minute visit. I was browsing when this beautiful black-and-white cat came strolling up to me from laying in the window. They also have Boswell souvenirs, such as gift cards and mugs. We played while I browsed, and she was so friendly at 12 years old! She was incredibly sweet and made this experience 11/10. They have an amazing selection of vintage books in amazing quality, which was my second favorite part of this store. Maria + Joe were fantastic guides, and there was no pressure to buy at all, although I couldn't resist supporting this awesome store. I will 100% return when I visit again. The quality of the merchandise was great, but a lot of the items were a bit overpriced in comparison to some other record store we have been to. Overall, not a bad shop! This is definitely a place to stop in at if you are looking to pic up some vintage records. They also have a ton of different items to support local bands.
