The last place I ever thought I'd be heading in my free time would be a wholesaler, but off I popped. Pleasantly, I was surprised at home much stuff I was actually interested in. I take it back, all hail Country Baskets. They boast over 30,000 continually changing lines, ranging from artificial flowers and greenery, to florists sundries, floral supplies, giftware and glassware. It's not shoes or diamonds but believe me it gave me plenty of ideas at sprucing my rather jaded bedroom up. Now if you are into your flowers and arranging a little more than I am, then you'll really love it. There is a fantastic choice of stock and I'd wager you'll be able to find most things you may've been hunting down to add the finishing touches to your arrangements. Add to that the bi-monthly workshops, tutorials and talks that are free of charge and it's a top destination for those with creative juices. You'll need a trade card but they're relatively easy to get and the kids have to stay at home thanks to the no under 16 policy. And whatever you do, leave the male at home. This is something he doesn't need to see and you'll be watching Match of the Day as pay back for weeks.

The wholesale price tag is a welcome change to the usual Next or M&S offerings, and the range of products will have your friends asking "Ooooh, where did you get that from?" This time of year is a big one for electrical goods. What the whole Christmas lights in streets,…read moreshopping centres, hospitals, houses, Universities.....you name it, they are likely to be wearing some kind of sparkley bulbs. And I'm sure the switching on doesn't always go as planned. I know absolutely nothing about electrical things, other than the good old 'turn on, turn off' trick if something isn't working. So I wouldn't bother calling me in a situation of electrical disaster. People who are more equipped and experienced would probably be you best bet, and much more likely to avoid any injury or death. Leeds have a large amount of electrical know it all's dotted around, one of these knowledgeables is Electrical & Contractors Supplies. These guys have everything you might need in the way of electrical goods, wires, screws, adapters, light bulbs, and all the other stuff that you need to make things light up. Or, if they don't have what you want they will know where to find it. They can advise you on any electrical related queries you may have, and would be happy to do so. So never fear, (ready for the pun) there is light at the end of the tunnel! Waheey!..Sorry....

I go here regularly for their excellent wrapping paper, 2 sheets and 2 tags are only 50p - a total bargain as they are great quality. They refused and ended the webchat. There is no phone number to speak to them - the number on Google just rings and rings and no-one answers - rang weekday at 1pm - phone rang solidly for 10 minutes without answer. Do Not Use. House of Fraser is a brand I've visited many times recently, mainly at my local Manchester store…read morelocated on Deansgate, that store basically is everything that this branch in Leeds is not, large and spacious, with the Manchester branch spanning across 6 floors and having more room across those floors for an enjoyable shopping experience, meanwhile this branch just feels rather unwelcoming and cramped. Unlike many branches of House of Fraser (HOF), this store doesn't really have much of an impressive feel to it, which is a shame. The selection of fragrances here seemed good, prices seemed competitive but there didn't seem to be any offers on, I did like how they had all the bottles in one area so you could spray them yourself, without different stands such as one for Armani and one for Hugo Boss, which in a way was okay as it made it easier to view a slightly limited selection of fragrances they had in store, however an issue was the mixing of male and female as there was about two female perfumes in the male fragrance section, luckily I spoke French and was able to read the bottle before disaster struck! The staff here seemed okay, they didn't seem too friendly, they seemed slightly helpful, perhaps average at best, yet slightly impersonal. I really didn't like this store mainly down to it feeling small and cramped compared to other stores, yet still this is a nice brand for a city like Leeds to have, and there is reasoning for this place not to warrant a single one-star rating, so I feel House of Fraser in Leeds deserves a slightly generous two-star rating.

This all changed on Wednesday 19th February 2014 when I approached the till operated by the assistant Ruth to pay for an item. I told this assistant that I wished to pay for the item using my Boots points and that I also had a discount voucher that I would like to redeem at the same time. She informed me that I was not allowed to use the discount voucher at the same time as redeeming points, I accepting this explanation without any problem. At this point she appeared to assume that I no longer wished to redeem my Boots points and once again she gave me the price in cash. I reiterated that I wanted to pay for the item with my points. At this, she very abruptly replied "you did not make that clear to me" repeating this more than once. I politely pointed out that I believed that I had made my intentions clear from the outset; she repeatedly insisted that I hadn't. Her attitude towards me was such that I felt that I was being admonished in the presence of other customers behind me in the queue. Not wishing to engage further in an argument with her, I paid for my purchase and left. If there was a misunderstanding between us, it certainly was not on my part and I hoped for an apology from her but instead I received a scolding. I believe I am owed an apology from Ruth as I left Boots Chemist very upset and reprimanded. I am a very alert lady in my early seventies but I was left feeling that I no longer had my dignity.
