Boots is the pharmacy/health and beauty equivalent of a supermarket. It's got a pharmacy section on the top floor, with pretty much every medicine you could think of and well-trained staff. The ground floor has health and beauty products ranging from sanitary products to bubble bath to make-up. Pretty much all mainstream brands are in here and Boots own-brand products are often exactly the same as more expensive equivalent brands, but half the price. They do a small range of food and drink for snacks and lunchtime, which tries to be healthy, but is just the same as you can get in most high street shops that are trying to diversify into lunches. Keep an eye out for lunch deals where you can get a sandwich, snack and drink combo deal for a good price. read more

Boots is pretty much the American equivalent of a drugstore such as CVS or Walgreens. They pretty much have the same type of product selection, including a pharmacy. I thought it strange that I had to go to the pharmacy for hydrogen peroxide and ask for it over the counter in supermarkets, whereas in the States it is on open shelves. The UK version is 6% strength while in the States it is only 1%, so maybe that is the reason. In any event, I was happy that they had what I needed. This seems to be the only drug store in Oxford, or at least the main one because when I need something everyone says "Go to Boots." And off I go. read more

One of my favorite stops when I come to the UK :) I love Boots and wish the drugstores in the US would consider modeling themselves after Boots. They have an amazing variety of cosmetics, that you can try any of at the store. They have great prices. I love the Meal Deal (a main dish, snack and a drink for 3.79! Great big Boots store right in the centre of Oxford City. This store has a wonderful selection of high end brands and normal everyday items. The perfume selection is great, all along the right hand wall from the front entrance. At the front of the shop are all the high end make-up brands like Lancome, Clinique, Dior etc a great selection all manned by slightly orange sales assistants (but not so orange as those in Debenhams). I love my expensive make-up and when it comes with Boots points for moneyback then I'm a happy bunny. Food items at the back of the shop, yummy sandwiches and snacks. There are lots of assistants manning lots of tills, plus more upstairs where they sell lots of gifts A couple of advantage card machines too which are generally hard to find in Boots' shops read more

The other day I needed some serious retail therapy, and since I live in the centre of town I found it easy and accessible to walk to the place where all the stores are in Oxford. This is a place where you have to walk on foot and there is interesting music playing all the time. You can't drive. I thought I'd go into each store one by one and that's how I found Boots. I started at one end of the street and worked my way down. This took me to a bank, then a place that sells Cornish Pastries and then a milkshake bar. (I got a milkshake at that place and it was DELECTABLE and I would've written it a review but I can't remember the name it had. Guess I'll have to go back and have another!) The first thing I noticed when I walked into Boots is that it has really good decor and I like that. The walls are very white and clean looking. The bottom floor mostly had perfume and toothpaste for sale so I decided I would go upstairs to see if they had anything else there. For going upstairs they have a choice of stairs or "lift" so I took the stairs (mini thigh workout!). Upstairs they mostly had stuff to take if you're sick, so I left pretty quick after I decided that I wasn't. Overall my first time in Boots was average at best. Even though it looked nice they didn't have anything I wanted. For a place that calls itself "Boots" I thought it was weird that they didn't sell any shoes. a very large store in oxford with two very large spacious floors, a great range of items available in store and instore pharmacy. the items sold here are haircare, bathroom , electrical , gifts, baby , photo dept , food and make up also fragrance section . the staff in general are very helpful though at busy times can be less busy and more stressful , there is a lift in store and stairs and escalators aswell , there did use to be a dentist but that closed down a few years ago , but this store still has a lot to offer in central oxford . This is a must visit place for all your health and beauty needs. read more

This Boots is a massive branch. They have a lot of make up and perfume counters at the front of the shop. Electricals like toothbrushes and hair straighteners are at the back downstairs, there is quite a good selection. All the essential toiletries like shampoo, soap are downstairs too. There are large food and drinks counters round the side of the shop, with a large selection of sandwiches, wraps and cold pastas, and the meal deals are great value!! Medicines, prescriptions, baby stuffs, photo counters, cameras, and lots of Christmas gifts are upstairs. Christmas gifts are great value with the 3 for 2! It is definitely worth having a Boots card, as you get points for each transaction, which build up so you can use them to buy something!! Regularly use the Advantage card points so you can look to see what your vouchers are, so you can get extra bonus points with particular items. The staff are really helpful, just ask if you can't find something and you will point you in the direction. Visited this Oxford branch yesterday and cannot praise two of their staff enough. I wanted to change my makeup completely, after years of the same brand. I was drawn to the NYX stand, as it stood out and was greeted by a very glamourous young lady called Megan whose own makeup was a work of art. She was very attentive to my needs and nothing was too much for her. She guided me through a complete change of makeup and was confident in her products but never pushy. She even managed to offer help and assistance to others at the same time, all with a smile on her face. Secondly, I needed some help with some other general products and I was guided around by a very pleasant young woman called Charmaine, who was perfect for my needs. Not many people know this, but the main Oxford Boots on Cornmarket Street is one of the few national stores that has special skincare collections like This Works, Trilogy and Ole Henriksen. I love to browse those brands and the new, more affordable range from This Works is brilliant. On the first floor, there is a spacious layout for prescriptions, vitamins and pain medications, and a large baby section. A great place for a girl on a budget! read more

There is a wide range of health and beauty products on sale, as well as electricals, medicines, baby products and lunch food. There is a pharmacy upstairs so you can collect your prescriptions from here as well as get some advice from the pharmcists. There is also an opticians here which has a good range of frames available. It has recently introduced three self service tills on the ground floor, meaning you can get your items quickly if it is busy and there are long queues on the main tills. read more

I'd like to share the distressing experience I had today 10.12.13 at 6.33pm at the Boots store in St Ann's shopping centre, Harrow. I purchased a varnish which I had tried and tested on one nail and was about to leave when I noticed a few more colours, I tried one which I genuinely assumed was a tester (it was grubby). I painted just the one nail and the colour came out clear however in the bottle the colour looked pink so I proceeded to place the varnish down. At this point a Boots advisor approached me and abruptly told me that I would have to purchase the varnish, shocked at her tone I told her I'm not obliged to purchase it and the colour was not what it looked in the bottle. At this point she told me it was common sense not to try varnishes, she was going to fetch the manager and told the security guard to make sure I didn't leave the store. This made me feel like a criminal, as if I'd stolen something, was demeaning and embarrassing. Sushila the store manager (I believe that is her name) came over and said I'd have to purchase the varnish, to which I replied absolutely not as the colour is misleading in the bottle compared to the painted nail. She carried on to explain about hygiene and I told her I understand that but as there is testers for lipsticks and eye pencils I assumed the same went for varnishes. Now surely, it would be a lot more unhygienic to have lipsticks and eye pencils testers than varnishes? At this point she barked "are you finished will you let my speak?" and if I carried on the way I was she would make me pay. The way I was? I was barely allowed to get my point across and as I had a sore throat and lost a lot of my voice I couldn't manage a lot of conversation in the first place! She threatened to ban me from the shop and get me 'removed' but on what grounds? I had a sore throat and couldn't even speak, was being spoken to like dirt infront of my ten year old Sister who at this point looked like she was going to cry. I reiterated to her it looked like a tester and had been trying on many before I purchased the first one, a statement which she ignored. I felt I was being ganged up on, I had the security guard to my right (he seemed like a nice fella and smiled when I jokingly told him he's making sure I don't leave the store only because I tried on a varnish on one finger, when the advisor went get the manager) the manager directly in front of me and her employee on my left. Did this manager have a bad day? Has she even got any managerial experience? Is she on a power trip? I have no idea but what I can say is she lacks people skills, she does not know how to resolve issues fairly, her approach is aggressive, rude and patronising. Upon leaving I informed Sushila I would be making a complaint, she asked for my name, I refused and at which point she barked "because I will forward your name onto customer services as well" shocked at this point I couldn't believe what I was hearing and had no words for her disgusting attitude. I work for one of the most expensive and lucrative brands in the world and would never dream of treating any one of my clients like this. This situation could have been resolved easily if the advisor and manager approached me differently. It was a cheap £4.99 item and I may have paid had they been kinder and explained that they don't do testers for varnishes just make up etc. The commotion they caused was unnecessary. I have never been treated to badly in a store before in my entire life, I shop at Boots as it's my first choice toiletry store but I'll never visit the Harrow branch again and will ensure I tell everyone what a horrifying experience I had there today. I have emailed customer services, I've also tried to call them but they're closed, I will definitely call again first thing tomorrow morning. I cannot believe in this day and age we have people like this working in established stores, I suggest Boots extensively re train the employees involved on customer service (that's if they've even been trained before) and have a lengthy talk with them about their future working for the company and how to resolve issues without having to ruin a customers day and making young girls leave the store near enough in tears. I'm not looking for free vouchers, money off coupons or free products, I'd appreciate a personal letter of apology from Sushila herself. read more
