It's been about ten years since my last visit. I'm rarely in this part of town but always wanted to return. Since my last visit, they've expanded the restaurant and even added coffee shop next door. I'm so happy to see that this little gem survived the COVID era and doing really well. I had laksa, one of my favorite dishes. I also got a noodle dish to go for my teenager at home. Since he's allergic to peanuts , I asked them for recommendations. It was delicious and my son loved it. (Borneo with flat noodles) Parking is always a pain in this part of town. I visited on a Sunday, past 1pm. Hard to get to but there's a structure parking with free parking up to 4 hours right behind. But there's structure was almost full. Just bring a lot of patience when driving around this area especially on weekends. read more

This restaurant is illuminating for those that haven't tried IndoSingaporlaysian food! The cuisines from all 3 regions morph into a trifecta delivering pure pleasures to the taste buds. The restaurant is tucked near a corner with limited parking in the back, but very close to a free large parking structure. From the street view, the restaurant doesn't look that big but there's actually a good amount of space inside for smaller and larger parties. The service here was very good, we were sat with no hassle and had been checked on frequently. Our server even helped us make our selection with some dishes we were unsure on. My favorite parts of the meal were the sweet creamy cendol, umami heavy nasi lemak soup, and the chunky pempek! The portions here are quite generous considering the prices of the menu, excellent value for your bucks. We love delicious bites on a budget. Great service - workers are friendly and take the time to explain dishes and recommendations. Very impressed with the flavors and portion sizes. Pricing is more than fair. We enjoyed everything we ordered - see pics. The Teh Tarik drink was very refreshing and tasty - the grass jelly was soft and flavorful. The Singapore Laksa was a large bowl and tasted very good. It had a good mix of ingredients. The Roti Prata was nicely fried and had a good crisp. Everything had good flavor. I don't usually have Indonesian food and it was a nice change of pace. My friend and I visited this restaurant for the 1st time last Wednesday May 21. We wanted to take a break from our usual East Asian spots and try a new Asian cuisine. This place was in one of my friend's bookmarks, so we decided to go here for dinner. My friend and I ordered the following: Gado Gado - I suggested this to my friend because I used to live with an older Indonesian/Dutch couple and they made this dish often. I would rate this a 7.5/10 Rendang - My friend and I have never tried this before. I thought this was tasty. My spice tolerance is pretty high, so I think I would consider its spice level as mild. I enjoyed this a lot because how flavorful it is, and it made me full quickly. I would order this again when I come back to this place to try other flood in the menu. I would rate it an 9/10 Hokkien Mie - This was also another food we have never tried before. My friend chose thick noodles for this, and it was pretty chewy. I thought it went well with the sweet soy chicken. I would rate it an 8.5/10 I liked the ambiance of this place. It looked cute and felt homey. Been craving Indonesian, Singporean food, because back in the days in Denver, I used to work with a Singaporean chef whom made the best Rengdeng Beef, and Ayam Curry, and Kway Tiao Chow Fun. So coming out to Borneo just brings back all the memories and the food here is legitimately heavenly goodness. Perfect food for a cool rainy day. Singapore Laksa was bursting with flavor, love the coconut and spices, just bliss. The Chicken Satay is probably one of the best I've had in the Los Angeles area, it just melts in your mouth smothered in peanut sauce, spices and fries crispy onions, I recommend anyone wanting to savor the cuisine of the south sea to pay a pilgrimage here. Borneo Eatery was fantastic! We got in, no wait at 06:45PM for dinner was a shock, and the food we ordered was delicious. The staff was extremely attentive and came by multiple times to make sure everything was going well. Our orders came out in probably no longer than 10 minutes and the decorations within the restaurant were cute and unique. I would highly recommend this restaurant even for a large party though I do feel it may take some time to accommodate a larger party than 6 just given the space of the restaurant. Borneo is the perfect, inexpensive, authentic spot if you're craving Indonesian, Malaysian, or Singaporean food! There's plenty of seating inside and their service is pretty fast. We ended up ordering the Singaporean laksa ($14.50) & satay plate with coconut rice ($13.99). The satay plate only comes with 4 chicken skewers (and 3 slices of cucumber), but they were absolutely delicious and were a good contrast to rich laksa broth. I so badly wanted to like this place, but after two visits, I do not. The menu is not descriptive, so I have no idea what the items are in terms of flavor profile. I figured with all the great reviews, I'd just order something from every category, ask the staff for recommendations, and surely something would be a win. I love malaysian/singaporean food so I knew I had to come try this place. On a saturday afternoon, there are a decent amount of people but the service was super quick and we got our food within 5 minutes. I ordered the laksa and it was so good. The portion was big and the laksa was full of flavor. The curry broth was so creamy and not super spicy, just to my liking. Yes!!! Finally, a laksa and noodles just like we have in Australia in the many Indo/Malaysian spots. Just amazing and sad it's taken me 20 years in LA to find the place but better late than never. I'm gonna be really honest. As a picky eater, this place is 1000/10. I've been here a few times and have tried multiple items on the list, and everything is absolutely delicious. I was skeptical about something new I tried today, upon seeing it, but it tastes 1000% better than it looked. And it didn't look bad, it just looked like it might lack a little flavor. Very friendly staff. Our server was from Bali and we enjoyed talking to him because we have been there three times. He explained how their menu worked which helped us decide on what to order. We have had countless good meals in Bali but never had their dish similar to Pho. First, we had their Roti Prata (bread) a flour based pancake grilled until perfection and served with an Indonesian curry sauce, oh so so good. Perfectly grilled was so right with so many delicate flavors in the sauce. My wife had the Hokkien Mie with thin homemade egg noodles lightly seasoned and topped with sweet soy chicken, char siu, marinated egg and vegetables. I had Hakka Mie with medium homemade egg noodles lightly seasoned and topped with char siu, fish cake, fish ball, marinated egg and vegetables. The food bowl is served with the broth on the side and you add the amount of broth you prefered. They will also bring more broth if needed. Power tip: My girl found this hole in the wall place. It was clean and apparently got the Michelin Bib Gorman's recognition in 2019. Came in on Sunday for a late lunch around 3 PM. Plenty of seats. Service was friendly. Food came out super fast and piping hot. The Nasi Campur was tasty and filling. The laksa was lightly spicy and also delicious. The food was great for the value. A cozy shop on the Main Street of Alhambra that's always filled with customers. They offer Singaporean and Malaysian style dishes. I came here during lunch time so there was a 15 minute wait. I ordered the lemak and laksa. They were both delicious. The flavors were very clean and prominent. The one thing I have to point out was that we got our lemak way before our second dish. Our laksa took a bit to come out, roughly 15 minutes? The staff had walked back and forth a couple times past our table. It's made with a strong shrimp broth based with light curry aftertaste; the addition of crispy fried shallots elevated the taste. The soup arrived pipping hot filled with generous ingredients of fish cake, tofu, shrimp, bean sprouts, corn... the house made egg noodles were amazing! Definitely get it with egg noodles. Very good I thought. The Beef Rendang was good, but I thought the beef shank was a little chewy, needed to be more tender. Overall flavor was good with all the components (fried tofu, curry egg, and spicy peanut anchovy) on the plate. Service was efficient and Ambiance is ok. The place looks renovated and very clean. We've been coming to this eatery at least a few times when visiting Alhambra, and until today, I had never accidentally dropped a drink in this restaurant. I came in with my senior parents and newborn to treat them for helping me with my baby. Since we were in the neighborhood, we decided to stop by. Unfortunately, the service today was disappointing. First, the waiter, who had limited English, took my order. I specifically asked if the chrysanthemum tea came with refills, and he said yes. When I later requested a refill, I was told I had to pay for it. I chalked it up to a misunderstanding. I spent over $100 on food, including a takeout order for my spouse. While leaving, I accidentally dropped his bagged drink. When I asked if I could get a replacement, the waiter brought over another staff member, who told me I would have to pay for a new one. I understand policies, but a little customer service and goodwill go a long way--especially for a long-time customer. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Best laksa I've ever had! Granted, I haven't had that many... but certainly they do it well above the other places in the area that serve Indo-Malay-Singaporean cuisine. I highly recommend the Singaporean Laksa ofc, the Nasi Campur which is as beautiful for the eyes with its many elements as it is delicious, and the Borneo Seafood Style Rice Noodles which are smoky, umami, and satisfying. We were unfortunate to come in around the time a party of 25 rolled up to the small restaurant and pretty much we were left unattended and waiting for long periods of time due to the overwhelming amount of orders coming in at once. It was a subpar service experience, but they were aware and did apologize several times, so I'm inclined to come back and honestly, they can't help it if they're slammed. A friend and I decided to try this place out since we've never been before. We parked in the parking structure behind the movie theater and walked over. We came for lunch on Memorial Day and were seated instantly. To share, we ordered the roti prata, chicken satay with coconut rice, and the laksa. The best dish by far was the chicken satay. The chicken was so tender and the marinade was so flavorful. The roti came with a curry based dipping sauce and if you get the large size it comes with two roti. The laksa was also good but the broth could've been a little more flavorful. After tax and tip the total for the two of us was just under $50. I definitely recommend this place for the chicken satay alone but I'll be back to try some of their other dishes! read more

Went during dinner time and the service was very kind and fast! They were able to answer our questions as it was our first time there and were very attentive to our needs. The restaurant has fun colors and is very spacious. We ordered roti for the table and I got the Hokkien Mie with thick noodles. Came here pre-pandemic and decided to visit this place again. This restaurant is known for their Indonesian food and Singaporean dishes. Yet, this restaurant is quite inconspicuous to the human eye as there's other notable restaurants along Main Street in Alhambra. Previously, I had ordered the Nasi Campur, which was so good as it featured different types of meat such as char siu, Chinese sausage, and chicken. However, one thing I didn't like about the dish was the lack of veggies so I wanted something less meat-ier this time around. My friend came here and ordered the Hakka Mie so decided to try that out! Wasn't sure what to expect but the noodles kind of tasted like a thicker and chewier texture of ramen. The broth came separate and you pour it in. This dish also came with fish balls, soy-marinated egg, char siu, bean sprouts, and fried garlic. It was very flavorful so definitely felt pretty full afterwards. Overall, it was not bad and definitely was craving something noodle-y that day. I think I would prefer Nasi Campur though just because it offered more variety as this dish felt like I was just eating a bowl of ramen with different toppings than usual.
