When I contacted the office to schedule an appointment, I was met with blatant rudeness from the administrative assistant--an experience that, based on others' accounts, seems to be common. On the day of the appointment, we were sent back and forth between two offices with no clear communication or coordination. When Mr. Kelsay finally arrived and called my son back, he refused to let me accompany him, even though my son specifically requested my presence. My son wanted support in asking the right questions and understanding the legal process, but Mr. Kelsay denied that request. While I was waiting, I witnessed another young client being called in with their parent--who was invited to join the meeting without issue. I expressed to Mr. Kelsay that I felt it was important to be part of the conversation, and he flatly refused, stating he would not speak with me. After a 40-minute meeting, he emerged, handed me a barely legible handwritten note, and told me I could read that--adding that he still wouldn't speak to me. When I objected, he said, "Your son understands what is going on. You do not." I have never felt more disrespected or condescended to by a professional. My son left the meeting frustrated and confused, unable to explain what had been discussed. All he could say was that Mr. Kelsay told him he was "effed" and that the case would be continued. I ultimately had to dip into my savings to hire a private attorney. Mr. Kelsay is a state-paid attorney, and the citizens of Garland County deserve far better representation and professionalism than what we experienced.
