I took in my "this can't be fixed" favourite handbag and the lovely lady behind the counter took my precious and asked me to come back tomorrow after it went through an assessment. Coming back the next day, I was greeted by the lovely gentleman who does a lot of the repairs and he told me it could be fixed! He then proceeded to explain how he would do it and asked me a couple of other questions. Frankly I love this approach :) A few days later, I come back and my "can't be fixed" bag was ready to go back into rotation. Apart from shoes and fixing bags, they also sell handbags, purses, belts, travel goods and offer a heap of services such as shoe repairs, key cutting, battery exchange, watch repair, dry cleaning, garmet alterations and shoe colouring. They were fabulous and such lovely people that delivered such a great service. Very rare to find. Totally rate it.

Throughout the day if you are anywhere near the Humanities buildings (next to the market) you'll be able to smell hot jam donuts. These donuts are made fresh and are so delicious and sugary that they are an instant energy boost on cold day. In the summer the students flock to the ice cream van that dishes out soft serve and gelato. I personally think the price is a little steep (around $5 for gelato), but judging by the dozens of students lined up by the van I am clearly in a minority. The market also includes some great second-hand bookstalls where you can pick up some great finds for only $5 or so. A couple of weeks ago I managed to snag a copy of Suetonius's "Twelve Caesars" for $5 and a couple of months earlier I got "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" for the same price.

My poor feet had been hurting from all the walking and travelling that I've been doing. Because I had already worn down my former Orthaheel sandals, I was due for a new pair. Shoes are great, but living in Hawaii and California for nearly all my life has conditioned me to wear sandals on a regular basis. I needed something quick, easy, and comfortable when I head out the door. The Walking Company provided many options for that! Many shoe stores I've visited rarely stocked orthopedic footwear- the only exception being the podiatrist clinic. Unfortunately, there is not much selection in design in such places. While my primary aim was to find orthopedic sandals, I also had a strong preference with ones with pretty designs. Although I have a foot problem, I don't necessarily want to advertise it to the world! Some footwear brands, such as Vionic and Orthaheel, offer this extra feature. I like the illusion of wearing cute sandals that don't look like orthopedic crutches. If I'm going to be spending extra money on special sandals, they best look nice! In actuality, I didn't have to spend extra money for nice sandals at The Walking Company! They were having a sale and much of their shoe prices were reduced. A pair of Ahnu sandals that originally costed $149 were on sale for only $89. The prices are still a little steep for me, but most orthopedic footwear is expensive. This was a pretty good deal. Also, they have a return/exchange policy that's pretty good. You can try out the shoes and see how it feels at home for a few days, and if it's not the right fit you are welcome to return it. The staff was really helpful and friendly! I am probably the most indecisive person in the world! It takes a while for me to decide what I really want. When it comes to making a decision that's going to affect your daily life (i.e. shoes, sandals), you want to make sure it's a worthy investment, right? The lady helping me was very attentive and wasn't put off by my lack of decision-making skills. After spending a while deciding between all the options, I decided to check out the Ahnu sandals. It can definitely be difficult to find shoes that's just the right fit. If you want a wide selection of footwear, I would definitely recommend this place. They cater to both men and women. From sandals to boots to orthopedic ware, they've got you covered!

I am a big fan of Merrell's as they have the vibram sole that I know will last climbing any mountain. The Walking Company stock the largest range of Merrell's that I have been able to find which is probably why I keep coming back here. They also have a large range of other brands that would suit any foot and purpose.

After reading the Yelp reviews for Bared Footwear promising nice shoes that were good for your feet…read moreand podiatrist recommended, I immediately made plans to get down there and check it out. I used to have orthotics and have a bit of a dodgy body so it piqued my interest. But mostly I thought their mens' shoes range could be the answer to my hospitality-worker husband's problematic feet and recent pain issues. He now has a really lovely looking pair of work shoes that won't kill his feet. Bonus for me, I found two really nice pairs of casual shoes for him that he equally loves. So while we didn't get them all there and then (shoes here cost between $200-$290 a pair) it looks like I will finally get to stop nagging him to stop wearing thongs out and get him into some decent weekend shoes soon! Wife win. The women's shoes range have flats, loafers and heels. Most have an ankle strap to hold you in and stop toe-clawing. I found them a bit bulky for what I'm used to, but they're super comfy and I think I'll probably end up with a pair of the loafer style that comes up higher on the foot and doesn't need the strap. Right now I'm holding out for their new season winter boots as I myself do a fair bit of running around on foot. The staff were really friendly and knowledgable. They assured us that if there were any problems with the shoes at all, we could bring them back and they can refit the insole to sort any issues. Apparently they get people bringing back shoes after years to readjust the sole - making the price tag not only worth the investment, but actually a pretty good bargain for what you're getting. The buckle actually broke on my husband's shoes on his first day of wear which we were pretty surprised by, but they fixed it immediately and gave him some free polish for the inconvenience. Definitely sold on these guys.

I've bought high heels from Bared and was stunned by its quality. Made of actual fabric (leather…read morelined) it doesn't give you a long-wear (which I would expect from $250 shoes) and had stitches poorly done. The customer service is what makes me say that I'll never shop with Bared again. Take a week to reply, instead of helping with a refund try to sell more and generally don't seem at all keen to help. The fact that they don't do refunds was also poorly advertised on their website, so I only found out about it when it was too late. Such a waste of my time and money!
