The second store front is full of mostly African artifacts, mixed in with some more colonial and antique tables. The final store front (depending on the order you're let in) is mostly architectural salvage items. Everything is top-notch. Feel free to bargain with them. The most they can do is say no. Cody, the newest member of this team, showed us around when we were there and you could tell he was passionate about his items (mostly the African artifacts). Make sure you stop in here (especially if you are headed to Rancho de Taos for a side trip from the Plaza.

It is a nice store to browse, approachable, with nice local items you can get for your place that can remind you of New Mexico or great gift ideas, reasonably priced. The customer service is good, the gentleman working here when we visited was super nice and sweet. No frills store, right on the Main Street with plenty of cool, nice items. It feels like it's been there forever in the good way!

This store is the anchor of this small town of shops and local businesses located in central NM. I think 'Seco has one small bar/restaurant - but don't quote me on this. The Mercantile is an interesting place that carries a moderate amount of antiques, collectibles, a few gifts - most with a New Mexico or 'ecclectic' bend to them. All in all, I found it an interesting place to poke around and spend about 15 minutes - but my 11-and 8-year olds were quickly bored much more quickly. So when you are in 'Seco, be sure to check out the Mercantile, Holmes!

The woman who runs the store offered a lot of information about the different things that she had, but it would have been helpful if there was more information around to explain the different things in the shop. The different things were very eclectic, so it was fun to look around. We didn't end up leaving with anything this time, and I'm not sure we'd be back, but it's worth popping in if you're in town.

It turns out the pieces are fabricated from scrap metal from cars. I debated between the two, but fairly quickly decided to buy both. Returning the next day, I had the opportunity to speak with the owner, Cam, and she was great! I also picked up two more pieces, the Water Buffalo and Wildebeest ... all that's left are the Springbok and Sable. Visiting this little store is highly recommended if you're visiting or just passing through Taos.
