Despite registering on time and paying the full amount (referral coupon s3friends did not work), I was not added to the mailing list and not assigned any team, and had no direction on where/how to proceed. I tried calling the numbers listed on the Facebook/Instagram pages for further information, but the calls never went through. I then reached out via email following the first week of play, but received no response. Finally, I reached out to the phone number (listed as s3 leagues corp.) on my payment receipt only to get an irritated response from the organizer asking me not to contact her on her personal cell phone. Repeated follow ups produced delayed and shallow email responses. After this entire ordeal, I was not added to the mailing list and was not notified of the cancellation during the rain out last week. I finally got fed up of such inconsideration and asked for a refund, to which I received no response. Last I checked, I have been blocked from the Instagram page for following up on the matter. This has been a terrible experience for me because at one point, I was eager to join this league and meet new people and make friends in the same manner that I did in the social meetup prior. The organizer of this group, Jessica, has proven to be incompetent, inconsiderate and disrespectful, and I would certainly not have even thought about joining this group had I known that she was the one behind the scenes.

When you join, you get $100 for the Equinox store (carry all major brands), and a free personal pilates session and a private PT session. I will point out they really PUSHED signing up for both after I completed my first sessions, which was annoying. I simply stated that private PT sessions are always super expensive, and on top of a gym membership would be way too much. Instead of accepting that, they pushed (in person and by email) to sign up for "just 2-3/week". I did not appreciate that in the beginning (lucky for them I was under a 1 year contract and couldn't leave just for that). They have something to offer everyone in the way of classes- pilates, cycling, yoga, running, and all types of HIIT. Absolutely loved some of the HIIT classes I took; the downfall is they have very limited times (during the week the latest class is 6:30 pm, and 5:30 pm on Friday). The popular classes get filled up FAST, within 15 minutes (you can set a reminder but if you're not available to book you're out of luck). Weekends also have very limited classes (only in the am). The gym itself is nice, lots of equipment available, pretty small floor space though and can get packed certain days/times. They do a great job of having clean sweat towels (and cool sweat towels) available and the gym is always super clean; they actually mop after each and every class, and spray down equipment. Gym, bathrooms, and showers are always very clean. Although a bit overpriced, they do offer spa services (facials, massages, etc.) and private training sessions (including for pilates). This location also offers a free steam room (other downtown location has a sauna as well), free lockers, and Kiehls products (shampoo, conditioner, body wash). I always appreciate they have little items available for after the shower- hair ties, q-tips, mouthwash, hair dryer, lotion, etc. Downstairs they have a juice bar, again with weird hours. Overall, I love the gym, just wish they offered more classes.

Also, having played for the BSSC in the past, I definitely feel that the Llamas are a sports club first and a social club second. While there are a few social events, they are far and few between the ones the BSSC holds, which I appreciate. I wasn't a huge fan of getting emails every other day on the next big social outing. I've played dodgeball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee with the Llamas. Some of the sports are more competitive than the others, but they are all a lot of fun and very reasonably priced.

That is per year! All told they wanted to charge $3780 per year when my friend pays $2520 per year. On top of that they wanted to charge me $8160 for 48 training sessions which is $170/hr. I would have more than likely paid for the trainers because they are known for this, but when they cannot give you a similar rate to what others are paying because they think you have the money is ridiculous. Especially when you are prepared to spend $8160 on just the PT. All told that is $11940 for 16 weeks of PT and one year at the gym. That is a lot of money for anyone to put down. With this amount of money I was able to get two weeks of health spa vacations in La Jolla, CA and I am talking to several independent trainers that have made names for themselves in the area and will get 16 weeks from them. It took me a bit to find out who is who and who the best PT trainers are in the area. Certainly not at Equinox since the trainer they were going to assign me too you cannot find any information about them. So for me I am now spending ... $280 at Planet Fitness for Black Card $4320 for 48 PT session, plus 3 more for free $6400 for two weeks at an all-inclusive health resort in CA $560 for round trip tickets Total all together is $11560 which is $380 less and much more enjoyable than Equinox. Let's check the checklist. 1) Year long gym membership with access to every gym at Planet Fitness has around the world 2) 16 weeks, 3 days a week of PT training with a top trainer 3) 2 weeks at a health spa resort 4) Oh yeah, traveling to California On a related note, I was a member of this gym years ago. They played funny games with me where they allowed people that live more than a certain distance away to get out of their contract with no problems. I was well beyond that distance. Instead, they changed my address to their location at 225 Franklin Street and tried to tell me I was not able to get out of the gym membership because I lived at the same building as the gym. I had to report them to the attorney general to get out of the membership. I would not have gone back if it hadn't been so many years and my business partner and life coach recommended that I go for the PT. Just goes to show that a leopard cannot change their spots. Avoid this gym! There are better gyms out there.

I go…read moreoccasionally on Tuesdays for blitz games, and use to go for a month-long Swiss on Thursdays, but now I mostly restrict myself to a Wednesday-night rapid (g/30) quad (or swiss, depending on the turn-out). It is hard to find a chess club where you don't run into one of the fixtures in the chess world -- the narrow-minded eccentric who lives and breathes for the game and spends all night channeling Robert Fischer -- and although BCC is no exception, for the most part you will find yourself facing off against friendly, sociable, and very adept, experienced players. The tournaments are usually well-attended (although recently attendance has been slowing down on my favorite Wednesday night rapid), and another draw is that BCC is home to a bona-fide chess celebrity (whom I have never met personally), Larry Christiansen. All-in-all, chess players of all levels are bound to find satisfaction at the BCC.

Avoid hub sports at all cost. You have a team that the their heads up their buttholes running the show that don't know crap about the sport or any type of basic communication.

Half of a League…read more Joined a basketball league in Cambridge. The league operator or whatever struggled to get guys in the league. Instead of waiting and refunding us because he was stuck at 3 teams for over a week. He begged us to ask if people wanted to join the league. Ok so we're able to scrape a couple guys together. We have a "full" league now. 2 teams all free agents, and 2 actual teams. Except of the 2 F.A. teams 1 team has 5 players and the other has 7. Meanwhile the other 2 teams in the league have full rosters, literally at least 10 players each. Ok whatever bad luck of the draw but whatever. Except the gym doubles as a soup kitchen, auditorium for a school play, (unfortunately, and with all respect) a wake was held there, Literally this was the smallest most ridiculous court I've ever seen. On top of the fact that it hadn't been cleaned in a solid 2 years, so extremely slippery. Fast forward the league saw 3 injuries all because of lack of traction. Then in the makeshift playoffs, everyone is hustled out of surprise ref fees, and scorekeeper fees. (never heard of a score keeper fee EVER) But more importantly It says in the rules F.A. Teams do not pay ref fees. But in order to play our playoff game 5 vs 4 might I add, we had to pay the ref and score keeper fee. Don't mess with their B-Ball leagues, they seem to just be a money grab. I requested a refund for my playoff game. Lets see if the shady guy writes me back. He didn't have a problem emailing me when he was asking me to help fill up his half a league. But WE'LL SEE. 4 teams, 1 severely unfilled, Weird refs, and terrible court.

Its amenities also include a gym with weights and cardio gear, real tennis, racquets, an events hall, great locker room, and to top it off - a fantastic bar (pool table, backgammon, and darts included). This is a traditional club and the atmosphere is exactly that. The locker rooms are dimly lit, include a sitting room, and are furnished with antiques. The bar has plenty of wood panels and antique prints. But don't be fooled -- the members are not stuffy at all. This is a group of fun, easy-going, and welcoming people. Its the best place to work out in town. And perhaps the best place to get a drink.
