Great casual spot for food & beer. Heard that Boteco Belmonte is a big chain in Brazil and typical for a boteco - kind of like a the Brazilian version of a local pub. This location in Copacabana is a block in from the beach. The open air atmosphere made for a great spot to relax and cool off after some time on the beach or sightseeing. Here you will have to get some street parking as there are not that many paid parking spots and I did not happen to see any lots around, I would say to just either walk here if you are around or take the term of bus. The place is pretty spacious and have a lot of sitting in a balcony style at the outer bother of the restaurant that they provide stools at the side walk. The place is very busy at night so some wait should be expected but we came at a Sunday night and it was just a 5 to 10 minutes wait nothing too crazy. Once we sat down the same old, not enough menus for the people on the table story. they gave all 3 of us 1 menu and the waiter came super fast to get drink orders.... I Never been here so I did not know what to order and just with one menu was extremely hard to get the orders so we asked him to come back in a bit and bring us more menus. He did the menus but once we were ready it took a long while to have him actually take the orders, as a matter of fact we just asked someone else for our food, but the guy was a buster lol so he had to cll the waiter who came a long time later and that when we realized that we still had not had our orders in the system yet, a mess really. Finally we got our drink orders in and we wee happy. I was planing on getting an adult beverage but it all took so long and the place has no A/C so I got super warm and decided to get a water instead, so here is a prime example that bad service caused me to spend less as a result and the worse was that is was just cause I was too hot and didn't have a proper menu count and a waiter portly taking orders to expedite the drinks. Here the Brazilian people make a salary and the service is automatically charged on the bill, here in this country is notoriously know for BAD SERVICE as regardless of the quality of service they will make the same amount of money so the wait staff could not care less. A interesting thing and very smart that I noticed here was the fact that they have some waiters walking around with trays of shots, or trays of small appetizers, they go from table to table to up- sell the items, this was genius cause if I am not intentionally looking for an appetizer and now it is so close and accessible I will probably get one, and that Is exactly what happened to us. I ordered a couple of appetizers, these people are geniuses. EMPADA DE CARNE SECA COM CATUPIRY- to me this was a disaster, it was super salty and incredibly odd, I based on this little appetizer would never eat carne sea again. BOLINHO DE CAMARAO COM CATUPIRY- this one was much better than the fist one I mentioned but still I was not very happy with the flavor. it did taste like the eat of the city had taken a toll on the flavor of this appetizer. LARGE PIZZA AMATRICIANA- we got the large, but if you are like me from America I must tell you that the large here is not the same as a large out there in the US. this large was finished by 3 people and with very little effort. however I must say that again this pizza just as the appetizers was a disappointment to me, the only positive I can say here on this pizza is the fact that I loved the oregano taste in it. this was a thin crust pizza with bacon in cubes, the cubes were too cooked and they felt almost like rubber, they supposedly had onions added to the pizza, I could not find not one onion on this pizza, this pizza was blend very blend. Over all in my opinion, I am not sure why this place is so busy. the service is nothing special, there is no wifi, they do not know how to count to give a proper amount of menus. the place has no A/C and the food is at best mediocre. So it was my last meal in Rio, and there were two things I wanted to eat before leaving - picanha and Bolinhos de bacalhau. My awesome local friend immediately said ok and brought me here. I had no idea it had multiple locations until just now. Makes sense cuz everything we ordered was quite tasty. The spot is very cool, located on a street corner. It was open air with tables on the inside and outside of the restaurant along the divider. We didn't order that many things. Just steak, fish balls and we also got these other balls which were basically fejoida in ball form. I was surprised to actually like it cuz I generally find fejoida kinda mediocre. Prob only cuz I'm not huge on beans and I haven't had a super good fej yet. The bacalhau was alright. I def had better at that famous bar/restaurant near urca with the view of the bay. But It did the job and satisfied my craving somewhat. Now the main event, the picanha. So so good. Cooked perfectly, salted just enough (not too salty like msot Brazilian dishes) and was already sliced too (nice touch that I appreciated cuz it saves me work). The fat cap on the picanha cut gives the meat great juicy flavor. There isn't much to say. Just look at the picture. It's art. It's lust. It's pure irresistibleness. Unless ure vegan. Then I'm sure it's probably disgusting and I feel bad for you cuz ure missing out big time. All in, the bill came out to like 30 something usd. Strong dollar paying dividends. The picanha was like 99brl. I'd do it again in a bloody, mooing heartbeat. I mightve given this place 4 stars if I tried more things on the menu. One really really good dish didn't warrant it. I'd def be back to try other things enxt time. The seafood pasta looked very delicious and smelled very tempting (table nearby). My friend also said they're known for their seafood too. While in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil my friend and I decided to spend the day at the hippie fair in Ipanema. After walking around the Fair shopping for souvenirs we became hungry and decided to stop for lunch. Right across the street from the park where the fair is held we see of a bunch of restaurants and this place caught our eye. We walked in and asked for a table for two and we're seated right away. The place was really crowded being that it was lunch time but that didn't stop them from seating us quickly. As I'm sitting at the table my friend went downstairs to use the bathroom and these gentlemen are walking around with appetizers on plates. They don't speak English but they come up to you and it seems like they are offering you to try the appetizers I wasn't sure what they were saying or even what the food was so I just didn't say anything. When my friend got back we finally looked at the menu and asked for some help from the waiter because we wanted to know how big the portions are and if could share a plate. The waiter helped us choose a dish that would be shareable and enough. The servers came back around with those appetizers and we ordered two, one was a vegetarian option of Bean and the other one was a shrimp option. These things were sooo good. I don't even know exactly what they were called but i'd get them again. On to the food we ordered a grilled fish with broccoli rice. The fish came with a shrimp sauce and it also came with french fries for some reason most of the meals in Brazil come with french fries on the side. When our food arrives the rice comes in a little pot and the waiter serve you the food. It was so delicious!!! The broccoli rice has so much flavor and it just wasn't what I was expecting. For some reason I was thinking that it was going to be rice made from broccoli but it was actually a fried rice that they add broccoli to. This is a popular dish in Brazil and it is served in many of the restaurants over there. The fish was cooked perfectly not over dry at all and the shrimp sauce on the side tasted more like if you were to order beans with your rice but instead of beans it had baby shrimp in it and the fries were cooked to perfection crisp & hot. With one order that we shared we were really full and didn't have room for dessert. I really enjoyed my meal at this restaurant. read more

What can I say! Absolutely love this place. Every single night here this place was packed! Me and my husband decided to check it out on our last night in Rio. Our server didn't speak English but that was all a part of our very authentic trip to Brazil. The beer selection was expansive and the food had so much flavor. We initially had caught a cab intending to go to ipanema. After discovering our driver spoke English and had been living in Brazil for 11 years, we asked for recommendations. He suggested leblon for a better time and dropped us off at the most popular bar, Belmonte. It was quite daunting with hoards of people spilled out on the streets all with glasses of beer in hand. The entrance of the boteca is where tables are assigned. To the left side of the boteca, there is a line to order drink tickets. Guys come around with glasses of beer handing them out to patrons with tickets. It's quite an interesting system. Of course this neighborhood is more expensive than copacobana. The people watching is downright amazing. I would definitely recommend this place. Come early to get a table. Ooops! I realized there's more than one location. I haven't been to the one in copacobana but have walked by and it was also full of people. read more

One lf the better botecos in Rio. Botecos are Brazilian gastopubs or izakayas. Some are small amd some the food is an after thought, tbis keeps it a bit more upscale version with a focused food with seasonal specialties and classics done well like frango passerinho or picanha steak. They even decemt salads. Great plqce to try caiparinhas- lots of fruits and good cachacas to choose from. I love the tangerine/lime/mint and the ginger/caju. read more

Our friend brought us here on a pretty chill night to just get drinks and talk. There were only about 2-3 other tables in here at the time so it was pretty quiet. Our server was pretty attentive and would ask if we wanted refills whenever one of the small glass of choppe was low. I actually don't like beer, but their choppe was pretty darn good! Prob the best I had in Brazil. I had their passion fruit capirinha and I love that they use real passion fruit. I miss Brazil and all the fresh fruit you can find there! We wanted to get some snacks so we also tried their fried camaron and bacalhau. They were pretty tasty with our drinks and not too salty like a lot of other places. This place is a lot of fun and always has good energy. Their service is good compared to what you find in Rio, and their food is great. Currently the "fashion" (trendy) bar in Rio. Always crowded with a fun, somewhat rowdy bunch pouring out into the street. I went six or seven times in my two weeks in Rio and each time was fun, no matter what night of the week. Beer is cheap, drinks are good, food is decent. The service was much better when I was there with my Brazilian friends as opposed to there with my American friends who have lived in Rio for years and speak perfect Portuguese. They have several locations, the one at Rua Teixeira de Melo is the one I go to when in Rio. It is also popular among the locals. The open empanadas the waiters bring around on a platter pair well with beer. The empanada with dried meat and catupiry cheese was like a small meal. Soups and main dishes are hardy. Caipirinhas tend tend to be on the sour side which is probably healthier. This is the only place near my pousada I could find that offers a top shelf cachaca menu, and it was quite an experience drinking it neat. We have been to boteco belmonte twice this trip the first time we just had a few drinks and a couple of pastels after the beach. The second time we went on a Saturday night for late night snacks and ciaprinah's. What a great atmosphere on a Saturday night lots of people out and about friendly staff. Know that the small food the waiters bring out on the plates are pick and choose and then charged to your table depending on how much you eat. These small bites are delicious again these small bites are delicious don't resist trust me. The Ciaprinah's are very good also. The area on copacabana where boteco belmonte is located seems to be a popular area with both tourists and locals almost every night it seems to be full of people. read more

Unlike the rest of Rio, this restaurant knows customer service and excels at it. A very busy place but you can easily pass time outside the restaurant at their outdoor bar while you wait for a table. Waiters come outside to take drink orders and also carry food appetizer trays for you to try and add to your tab. Word of caution, portion sizes are big here. Sangria is worth trying as are their tender meat skewers. They don't speak English but they definitely make the effort to serve you well. read more
