My partner and I were exploring outside of lisbon and needed a place to eat. I saw this on multiple guides and really wanted some porce! Food: 5/5 Super fresh. It seems like this establishment is just him and his wife thus the limited seating ( 9 seats). It does take time for the food to come out so do not come here if you are in a rush! But, the food is well worth it! Everything was tasty and well worth the price! Service and Vibes: 5/5 There is nothing bad I can say about this. The most charming , special lunch experience. Every dish we had was superb ; melon with Jamon, steak and baked fish. All perfectly cooked and seasoned. Now THIS is my kind of place! When a friend heard that I was heading to Evora, knowing how I love good food and great wine she suggested Botequim da Mouraria, and was I glad she did! I went for lunch and after wandering the streets trying to find this place, finally pulled open the door to this cute corner bar with only 9 seats at the bar. Know if you go that when the seats fill up, the owner, Domingos, pulls the curtain on the door. During my stay, he had to turn away people so know before you go that the 9 seats fill up fast! Domingos loves his customers and is quick to suggest something for you ( he also has menus in a variety of languages but just go with his recco as they are all spot on!). And trust me, you won't walk away hungry as the portions are large and filling! He started me with an amazing red wine which was one of the best I've had on my trip. For my starter, I had a sheep's cheese baked with herbs and fresh bread. Delicious! I was then served a tossed salad and then my entree which was perfectly prepared lamb chops served with freshly cooked potato chips. And if that wasn't enough food, I was served a tasting of three different desserts all of which were very good. Domingos wife is in the kitchen turning out all this amazing food while Domingos takes care of his guests out front. It felt more like a meal I had in someone's home rather than in a restaurant. And Domingos likes his guests so much, he takes their pictures and adds them to a reel he plays on a monitor in the corner as sort of a "scrapbook" of who has been at his bar. This is one of the best restaurants in Portugal and it reminded me why I fell in love with Europe in the first place. You need to arrive before the opening time for dinner in order to get a place to sit. Once 9 people who up, they are full and no more people will be seated at that meal. Get the black pork steak, mushrooms, ham and melon, and quince dessert. The veal steak also looked amazing. My two year old son was being really hyper, almost hitting the owner in the face with the menu and throwing his sick over the bar, and the owner was consistently nice and patient. read more

If you happen to be one of the lucky first 9 to get a seat, you're in (otherwise you have to go elsewhere--Domingos only does one seating). After that, take off and let Domingos guide you. He will take care of each customer personally, and if I were you I'd just let him pick what you should eat. This is really more like a "family-style" one seating dinner. Though alone (which made it easier for me to get a seat as I was #9!), I quickly made friends with the girl next to me and then an American couple from Florida. The real experience is just that: this is not a meal at some restaurant. You get to experience Portugal, local foods and wines, and make new friends with your dinner mates. This place has won a spot among the best dining experiences I've ever had -- both for the quality of food and for the warm hospitality. I noted some earlier comments stressing the need to arrive early. I followed them, arriving about fifteen minutes early prior to lunch opening (12:30), but no one else showed up early and I ended up being the first one served. Perhaps it is more important to show up early for the dinner shift -- 12:30 is still an early time to have lunch by Portuguese standards. I took Domingos' recommendations on the menu and everything was superb. Starter was bread with cured sheep cheese, main course was a generously sized veal steak that happened to also come with a simple, very fresh lettuce-tomato salad and a platter of fresh, light fried-to-order potato chips. Nestled in the heart of Evora, a small town in southern Portugal is where two friends and I found this food lovers dream. A friend of mine read numerous reviews in different traveling websites/guides. The eatery is more of a bar seating roughly 9 people, carefully watching in amazement the owner and his wife mastering exceptional Portuguese cuisine. We shared 5 appetizers or dainties as called in the menu, and each had the veal for our entry. Each item was uniquely rich and powerful in flavor. This review is not about the food which by all accounts sounds phenomenal. We waited this evening for over an hour (and there was another couple there before us) and at one time there were a total of 19 people who made the trip to the restaurant and were waiting for it to open. It never did. Unless there was some sudden emergency, there is no excuse for not putting a sign in the window telling people that "it is closed today". Everyone is entitled to take a holiday or a day off but next time have the courtesy to post a sign letting people know. read more

An amazing top 5 culinary experience. As stated in previous reviews you need to be there at least 15 minutes before opening. It is a small intimate space with recommendations for food and wine being perfect from Domingos . His wife is an incredible cook the combination was awe inspiring. If you find yourself within 50 miles of Evora this meal is worth the detour. read more

My wife and I drove through Evora on our way to Faro to check out the old city. It was roughly noon when we arrived so we decided to do one of our favorite things, eat. I looked on tripadvisor and this was #1, it 100% deserves the top spot. We were unsure what we wanted coming in but the husband (who works the bar) basically chose our entire meal and his wife (the cook) absolutely crushed it. I can't endorse this place enough, if in town definitely make this a priority. Enjoy! read more
