The course has shaped up nicely and always a joy to play. They have a clubhouse that could use a bit of work but it's a good place to have a cocktail and snack after a round of golf. Northern Pines Golf Course is a driving range, golf course, bar, banquet and event center…read more I'm here to talk about the golf course, and yet I'm here enjoying a cold beer in the summer sunshine on the outdoor patio after my round of golf, while a crowd is here getting ready for a night of wedding fun and festivities. They are enjoying themselves at both the large and very nice inside event space and the well groomed outside event space (separate from the back patio and driving range). The golf is a regular golf course. It is nine holes and they consider a full round doing the course twice (9x2=18). Do not let this discourage you because this is a very fun, very challenging and surprisingly forgiving course that you will want a second chance to master. This IS NOT A PAR 3 nine. This is a fun course with very different holes, some flat and some with surprising elevation. There are par 3 holes and "everything in your biggest club" long holes. Number nine is a mental challenge uphill. Number two tees off from high above the fairway. Trust me, the fairway on two is forgiving so go for it. The price is a good value. The course is always in good shape. I've walked this course, but I prefer to get a cart. It's a long course. It's easy to underestimate nine hole courses and to underestimate golf in farmland. Not good: No beverage cart girls Not good: Overgrown weeds in spots that obviously began life as landscaped spots Good: Wildflowers!!!! Wildflowers as far as they eye can see! Very Good: Views of the greatest Great Lake of them all. True story: I saw a deer. I inadvertently scared some baby birds. And I singlehandedly rescued a turtle on the 15th hole.

They are not the easiest greens to read and they are really fast. The staff is great, the greens fees reasonable, and the pro-shop has a decent selection of balls, tees, gloves, and attire to keep you playing. They do not sell, fit, or repair gear but they do sell food and a basic assortment of beer, snacks, and pop. There is a decent practice green and a nice outdoor range/hitting area to warm up before your round. The course itself is a lot of fun to play and I recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Butternut Hills Golf is an excellent course in northern Wisconsin. Any level of golfer can be…read morechallenged by the course. Some sand, some water and some narrow fairways - but a fair course if you can hit your ball reasonably straight. Greens on some holes are tricky - but all but a couple are in great shape. I like to walk - but it is tough on this course because of the distance between some of the greens to the next tee box. So, unless you have time for a 5 hour round - probably best to take a cart. The green fees are a little pricey - but I normally only play this course on the weekends- so I assume they jack up the prices on the weekends to take advantage of the cabin owners. However, I enjoy the course enough to pay a little extra.
