Lovely and friendly staff, good food that is standard across any boudin. Easy parking. Plenty of seating. Great fast casual place for lunch or to pick up some fresh sourdough or baked goods. We had sandwiches and salads for lunch and they even brought out food to our table and cleared our table afterwards (wish I had known about the clearing to tip appropriately while ordering). This place is in a parking lot with a lot of other food places so parking can be challenging during lunch time. I walked in and was immediately greeted. The place smelled amazing and the gentleman at the register was very nice and patient with me since it was my first time. I came specifically for the clam chowder but fell in love with the grilled cheese! The Brie grilled cheese with apple slices and fig jam blew my mind! I'm so sorry I wrote the review on the wrong Boudin location in SantaAna/Orange mall, it is very possible the Boudin food is much better at the Orange mall as I liked the one in South Coast plaza, I'm reposting this in the correct location in Huntington Beach. I last went to Boudin about 10 years ago after shopping in Nordstrom South Coast Plaza, it was not bad, all I had was a bowl of clam chowder. I never paid attention to the history but the order took so long so I read the history, wow there is such a monsieur name Boudin, boudin is French and it means blood sausage, it's kind of weird. He started his restaurant in San Francisco and made the sour dough a household name. It was established in 1849 by Isidore Boudin, son of a family of master bakers from Burgundy, France, by blending the sourdough prevalent among miners in the Gold Rush with French techniques. Boudin franchise came to Huntington Beach at least 6 years ago but I never went there, while waiting for my order at Zankou next door I ordered a clam chowder. I saw on the menu a combo a soup and 1/2 sandwich for $13.49 sounded like a good deal so I chose clam chowder and California burger. The burger was a big joke, the beef was literally black, hard as a rock, the description was so beautiful, avocado, special sauce, etc.. bc it was 1/2 I betcha the 1st 1/2 was many hours ago, I should have returned it had I lived closer, a total waste of money. OMG that was the biggest disaster ever, the clam chowder had no flavor, I added white and black pepper, more salt, nothing worked. If you want a good chowder, go to Market broiler. This restaurant chain is now incorporated w a CEO, it's mass produced and even selling in Costco. The corporate food is usually bland, nothing like what it used to be. The restaurant was almost empty and 4 tables had the sour dough bread left behind, I was glad I did not pay $1 for the bread bowl as obviously it was not good if everybody left it behind. I read some reviews so it is possible the salads might be good, my review was just on 2 items listed above. It was our first time to this location as we were driving around the neighborhood. There aren't many Boudins and I love their Sourdough bread! This is a fast casual restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. They also have a self serve drink station. Open Faced Dungeness Crab Melt - wow, this was pretty delicious! It had a great crab flavor but wasn't overwhelmed by the bread Boudin Burger - I took a bite and it was good Brie, Apple & Fig Jam - OMG this was super delicious! I couldn't decide between this and the crab melt so I ordered both expecting this to be our dessert. It did not disappoint! I would definitely order this again every time I'm here. The only small change I would make is slice the apples a bit thinner. Otherwise, it's a must get. Sandwiches come with either side salad or chips. We got both and the salad was not great. Maybe I just didn't like the dressing? I'll get it on the side next time. But it didn't taste fresh. The kettle chips were bagged and they were good. When i finally got someone's attention, my food wasn't ready yet (which I guess is better than if it had just been sitting there getting cold)...so was 20 minutes after scheduled pickup time. My daughter and I ordered without anyone else ordering in the restaurant at the time yet then waited for our food for an extended period of time despite seeing it ready on the counter. Julietta then prepared to go orders 7 times before delivering our food. My daughter's warm food was delivered cold which we didn't bother to address. Hardly any chicken salad on the sandwich. It was basically a few chunks of chicken that didn't even cover the whole bread. Usually I get a sandwich loaded with salad made with nuts, celery, grapes. It was just bits of chicken. My girlfriend tuna salad was also horrible. Same as chicken salad. Hardy any tuna. No flavor. Never going back. I did complain to counter person. The arugula I think was great combo for the sandwich. The last but not least the bread had a slight toast crust to it but yet soft for eating. The first bite made me feel that this was a place I was meant to eat at. It came with a seasonal green leaf salad with croutons. The dressing was balsamic a bit over dressed but it was bearable. I didn't mind the tart from the balsamic. Next was the pizza it had a tart sauce with cheese and cherry seasonal tomatoes with finely julienned fresh basil. The crust was nicely toasted with a little rim so the pizza toppings stayed in. Temperature was perfect. They also have Peet's coffee. So I made an iced coffee. Delish. Went in her on a whim. Was in the parking lot about to go somewhere else and just wanted something different. Am so glad I did. I got the chicken club on toasted sourdough. It wasn't like a triple decker club at all - it was between two pieces of, I don't know - different kind of bread. I'm not technical. But it was fantastic. Seriously, top 5 sandwiches for me. Dude up front was super nice too. Mentioned that this restaurant is using the same sour dough starter since like 1849. That's crazy but whatever. Was really good. I also bought bread to take home. I'm more upset with the service. The place wasn't even busy, practically empty, so the person who took my order had no excuse for being rude. The person was almost hostile. It was like I was interrupting his/her non busy self by wanting to place my order. One of my family members said I should have spoken up but I'm not confrontational. I just didn't leave a tip. You can never go wrong with a bread bowl with clam chowder from here. If you pair it with a sandwich (I always lean towards the Brie and Apple sandwich) it's a match made in heaven. It is A LOT of bread so if you are not into carbs, idk why you went there lol but it's a pretty great comfort food spot if you're looking for a hearty meal. For takeout on Thursday, March 14, 2024. I received an offer from Boudin through my business email for 20% off a takeout order which would allow me and my family to try the 100% Dungeness crab meals of the Crab Louie salad, open-faced Dungeness crab melt, and crab & corn chowder. We would be in between doctor appointments and I planned to pick up the food after the first appointment. I placed the order online for pickup at 11:00 a.m. Two family members like being able to choose two items for a combo. One had broccoli cheddar soup and a half sourdough patty melt; the other, a half turkey avocado sandwich and half Crab Louie salad. We also ordered a crab and corn chowder with the bread bowl and the open-faced crab melt with mixed greens. For dessert, we ordered a lemon bar, a raspberry chocolate bar, a fudgy brownie, and a semi-sweet chocolate chip cookie. The caramel lover had to have a small sea salt toffee caramel milkshake to go with her sourdough patty melt. We also got our bread for the week with the sourdough lunch box. It was quiet when we entered the restaurant an hour after opening. There was one other person waiting for his order. I went up to the mobile app order counter and a lady helped find my takeout order. Another young woman got right to work on making the milkshake. The takeout order was packaged very neatly and compactly. It was a high wind day so I enjoyed the crab and corn chowder in the bread bowl the most. The mixed greens was the right choice with the open-faced crab melt which is rich and had a little too much pepper for me. The other people started enjoying their lunch before I could take photos of their food. The sourdough bread is fresh. I don't normally eat the ends but because the bread is fresh I ate an end piece. This is my second time here, and I just want to say this is a must when I'm in the area. So far, what my family and I have tried has been delicious! The menu selection is great. You can get a burger, a salad, or even a pizza! (Even have a beyond burger for vegetarians). I just had a bread bowl-broccoli cheddar soup and it was fantastic! The staff here is always friendly.
