The salad was pretty good. The red onion, olives and feta cheese were particularly fresh compared to anything in the U.S. and the cheese bread was super soft. We are used to the chewy sourdough one from San Francisco, but this was solid in a different way. I know this store got only three stars on here but it's clearly a different bakery now. They appear to have won a bunch of awards, but I am not sure since I couldn't read the French on the certificates on the wall. We stayed right across the street so it was convenient for us. This will be our go-to bakery while staying here. I plan to try their mini pastries with chocolate chips next. They were perfectly laminated and the ideal size for a borderline diabetic. I wouldn't travel across town to eat here since there's so many bakeries in Marseilles, but if you're in the neighborhood, this is a good place to go.

There are actually several Jacob bakeries/coffee shops spread out around Aix [I've counted 4, but I…read morecould be missing a few!] The formula works well: a variety of baked goods available to go or to eat in the back room of the coffeeshop. As with most French cafes, there's no pressure to eat and get out- patrons are welcome to stay as long as they want. Unfortunately the seating is not especially comfortable so I've never wanted to stay that long! The baked goods here are delicious- very crusty baguettes, buttery croissants and pain au chocolat. The coffee, on the other hand, is to be avoided. All in all, though, a decent place to camp out and get some work done.
