Really friendly florists. They are so helpful. Whenever I go in the staff seem to be laughing and having fun together which is really nice to see. The prices are fair too and good quality products. read more

The best flower shop in Baildon…read more No more needed to say
My favourite shop in Baildon, and a breath of fresh air for this small Yorkshire town just outside…read morethe clutches of Bradford city and happily nestled on the edges of Baildon and Ilkley moor, proper countryside. This shop is a treasure trove of wonder It started off less than a year ago in tiny premises just big enough to hold the sweet smelling array of floral blooms they specialised in. But around the edges were original and exciting selections of cards, gifts and things for the home. In August 2008 they extended into the shop next door and suddenly seemed to have room to breathe and shine brightly, a glistening gem contrasting gloriously with Baildon's rough Yorkshire stone buildings. They now have an even more impressive selection of cut flowers and plants, gifts, wrapping paper, cards, jewellry, baby things, bowls and more. The prices are very reasonable. The flowers seem pricey compared to supermarkets, but they're nicer and the service is 100% better and don't forget that flowers are a loss-leader for the big supermarkets, meaning they sell them at a loss to get you in the store, pushing local businesses out of the market - support local businesses! And the wonderful smell that hits you when you just walk past the shop so beautiful, floral, gorgeous. I think two women run the shop and they are both very friendly and happy! They obviously love what they do, they always have big beaming smiles and the shop is often still open at 6-6:30pm, they say they forget to close up because the day just flies by. It's the kind of shop that gives you a warm feeling inside, maybe that's a girl-thing?! I bought my Mum a lovely plant for Mother's day from here

Inside it is somewhat like a sort of beautifully scented meditation room, with some lovely water features splishing away in the corner. The lady who served me was very friendly and helped me to choose a lovely bunch of flowers as a gift for a friend, who was very pleased - I'm told they lasted over two weeks, which is quite good value for money! As a lovely alternative to supermarket flowers, which are hit and miss at best, try Amity Rose if you're in Ilkley Town!

Inside, I particularly liked the bold decoration that would bring a subtle effect to a home or garden - like the large stones with small indents just big enough to fit a tea light in. Even though it was a small shop everything was quite grand. There was a vase nearly as tall as me filled with lemons! I fantasied about one day having a house suitable for any of this but if you're looking for some extras for your home maybe take a look here for something a bit different.

It might be a more predictable choice of celebratory gift but if you are like me, there is nothing quite like a fresh, beautifully arranged exotic bunch. And for that kind of reaction, Tranmere Flowers is certainly the one. It might not have a little chocolate shop attached to it like Academy Flowers nearby, but take one look at the exotic rain forest like array of leaves and petals inside and you'll know it's worth a look! They certainly seem to have that added extra choice on virtually all options, from pot plants to bunches on display. They are also on Interflora, which I'm sure you may know, means delivery is a certified easy option! As well as a vast amount of floral arrangements they also have gift items, such as teddy bears, and lovely staff to give you a hand choosing should you need some advice. I'm not saying it's definitely the best choice in Otley, but you won't regret it if you end up here.

I can't help but love florists and this is no exception - there's just nothing like the smell of freshly cut flowers - every time I go in one I just want to hang around all day browsing and inhaling. Floral Expression also sells cards. They have a limited variety but most of them appear to be handmade and much more attractive than those you'd find in say, Clinton Cards. The woman behind the counter seemed lovely and helpful and though I didn't buy any flowers, I'm sure anyone choosing a bunch of flowers here would experience excellent customer service.

There were some lovely displays and so I went in to just have a little look around. Inside they had a range of different bouquet displays and floral arrangements - all of which appeared to be carefully arranged and of a great quality. The hyacinths in there smelt beautiful! I found that they do lots of arrangements to order, including birthday, special day and wedding day arrangements. There are also lots of fixed price arrangements to choose from! If you live near by and need something special I'd give these guys a call for sure.

In fact I imagine this scenario will be most invaluable to all those chaps (and in some cases romantic chapettes, like me) who wish to go down the specialised flowers and chocolates route for Valentine's day! They had a number of different selections on display, with some gorgeous ready made bouquets and some gorgeous bulbs and plants as well. They were selling two hyacinths for £5, which is great as they smell divine once they have bloomed! I think my favourite flowers that were on display were the lilies, which looked beautiful, and some lovely bright tulips and daffodils too. All in all this is a great little florist and chocolatiers combo which I will certainly be visiting again!

I ended up buying a fraction of what I normally buy and when I commented on the price I was told that the shop had changed ownership in the summer and their mark up was less than the previous owners. I was also told that the market had changed and things were a lot more expensive. Out of interest, I popped across the road to Tranmere florist and prices were much more in line with what I expected i.e. Eryngium per stem £2.25 as opposed to £3.95. If you're buying a few things, this makes a huge difference. My advice, if you have a vague idea of what you're looking for, try Tranmere first!

Even so, it was with delight that I discovered their somewhat more high end Daisy Chain shop here on Street Lane. Having just nipped in to Share for a look I immediately turned to have a gander in here, after all, Mother's Day is coming up and I needed some inspiration! I was standing outside just taking down some notes when one of their shop assistants (I assume) came out to ask me a little abruptly if I needed any help. I'm not sure if she felt I was loitering, or was merely a little over keen to serve, but I smiled and said I was just browsing - to which she let me be, which was nice. I wanted to get some price ideas on their offerings but I didn't really want to engage her in a conversation as to whether or not they were cheaper than the other local florists! So, I kept on with my pleasant browse and wandered in. Their displays and flowers are truly beautiful. They had some gorgeous bamboo and bulb arrangements in some lovely vases, some beautiful little flower pots for £5.95 and inside the store they had a huge range of gorgeous lilies, orchids and other beautiful flowers. The scent was utterly divine! They also had a number of lovely items, such as vintage style bird cages, which I assume would make for some gorgeous displays. As far as chain stores here in Leeds Daisy Chain truly has to be one of the premier places to go for flowers. Utterly lovely!
