What an experience! Came here to celebrate with my wife for our wedding anniversary and it was amazing. The entire staff were engaged and made us feel welcome. Our waiter, David, was very polite and helpful to answering any questions about the menu or bar items. But the food was simply incredible. The menu was plentiful and had a good variety to choose from. For being a steakhouse, I think the MVP would go to all the other items. The caviar, truffle bread, wedge salad and fish selection was just so good. Also ordered the NY strip steak and that came out to perfection. Hats off to the chef. Bourbon Steak occupies what used to be the main lobby of the Westin St. Francis hotel. You can enter the restaurant via the Powell Street door during opening times. To access the hotel proper, one must go around the corner and enter via the door on Geary Street by the porte-cochère. There is a central bar area with high stools, surrounded by low tables on the perimeter of the space, and a more formal dining room up the stairs opposite what used to be the Clock Bar. I didn't have a reservation, but they were able to seat me at a table in the bar area. This very upscale restaurant is a collaboration between basketball star Stephen Curry and celebrated chef Michael Mina. Food is very good and service is excellent, but brace yourself for the prices. Carry your smelling salts. I started with the onion soup. The soup itself was quite good, but the crouton was a bit spongy and hard to break with the edge of the spoon. And I would have liked a good bit more cheese on top. For my main, I had a $110 US-sourced Wagyu steak (10 ounce, I think). Cooked to order and excellent, but ouch! A side of broccolini was also very nice. I had wine with my dinner and cognac with my Black Forest chocolate tart dessert. The wine was an inexpensive Cabernet Franc. I chose it not because it was only $18, but because I'm quite partial to Cabernet Franc. I should have known the "low" price meant an inferior vintage. It was all right, but I would have been happier with something else. The Remy Martin VSOP was very nice and went well with the dessert. I liked the tart itself, and the bold, sweet, tart cherry sauce added to the plate. But put together I thought the sauce tended to overwhelm the mild chocolate flavor of the layered tart. With tax and a 20% tip, the bill came to--are you sitting down?--$282.46. Just for me. As much as I enjoyed the meal and the excellent service, I probably won't dine here again soon. I heard it was hard to get a reservation when they first opened, looked like they're slowing down now. Luckily I was able to snag one for 9pm on a Sunday last minute. It's in a hotel and you'd expect it to be feel as if it was apart of the lobby, but that wasn't the case. It was majestic, with a sage green and gold interior. The hostess greeted us with a very warm welcome and seated us immediately. We were put in a booth as requested, which was very appreciated. Our waiter came over and greeted us with champagne on the house. We started with two drinks and their complimentary fry trio. We ordered the caesar salad, bone in ribeye and mashed potatoes. Bourbon Steak- huge miss. Came in on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate my sister's college graduation. We love a Micheal Mina restaurant so we were very excited for dinner. Our hostess was above and beyond kind. The 1 star is for her. Service the rest of the night fell flat! This was a celebration dinner- we were here to have a nice evening and were in no rush, but my goodness did we wait. Keep in mind there were only 6 other tables at the time. 5:15 seated with only a drink menu for 10 minutes. We had to flag a host down to have our waiter give us a menu and properly greet us. 5:50 we received our fries after begging a server for them. She was shocked we hadn't received them yet. 6:05 we finally received our cocktails. This was just getting ridiculous. 6:18 we finally got our food. At most, our food was warm. We had to send the pomme puree back because it was just way too cold! We started with the duck fat fries, an absolute home run. We ended up ordering 2 more! With the fries we had the champagne battered onion rings, which were airy and perfectly battered. I ordered the braised short ribs because Michael Mina kills a braised short rib! It was so delicious and melt in your mouth! The pomme purées when hot- delicious! The black truffle macaroni gratinee was inedible. It was just a gluey, congealed mess! Since it wasn't an ideal temperature, the béchamel just congealed on top and didn't soak through to the macaroni at all. The execution was just a miss. My dad's steak was underseasoned and nothing special. Overall it was just a miss. I'm not sure if I would recommend or come again. We spent $500 on a celebration dinner and it was horrible. We ordered most things on the menu and four of us decided to share the tomahawk. The meal started great with complimentary fries that were just perfectly crispy and fatty. Went here for one of my close friends birthday and the vibes of the restaurant was elevated but still chill. Our server was so attentive and did a great job at recommending stuff on the menu. All staff from start to finish was amazing! Friendly,welcoming and attentive. Not sure about the name of our server but on the receipt it was listed as Andrew, he was so patient and all smiles each time he or the others would check on us. We loved the look, feel and ambiance of the restaurant, very intimate and gorgeous. We loved the green color on the ceilings and the chairs. We were celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary and everyone took care of us, they all greeted and wished us for many more years. My family came here for Christmas dinner and while it is time to spread cheer, I have to be honest on this establishment. The service was slow, and it might have been due to it being nearly a packed house but by the middle of our meal, when most tables were gone, the checking in was still a ghost of Christmas past. Now let's talk food. I started with the ahi, which contained one taste note - SPICY. I couldn't taste the delicate fish as it was completely masked in an overwhelming amount of spice. This dish was also screaming for acid as well... The filet entree was subpar. The steak wasn't juicy and the best thing on the plate was the roasted tomatoes... now that is saying something. My parents both ordered the prime rib and when both dishes came out, we could hear the cow still mooing... thats how blue the steak was. For a restaurant that emphasizes meat- this is quite an embarrassment. The saving grace was the dessert . The cheesecake was perfectly balanced and delicious and the beignets were one of the best I have ever tried. Hats off to the Pastry Chef! Our visit to the restaurant started off poorly as one of the hostesses racially discriminated against my family (the ONLY reason I had to take a star away). We were quite obviously ignored multiple times and all 4 of us were SKIPPED over when the hostess went around to ask everyone else if they were our party's name. Dining at Bourbon Steak inside the Westin is an experience in itself. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful....upscale, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance and aesthetic feel top-tier and special. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the setting. While nicely presented, it lacked seasoning and leaned a bit bland overall. Not bad, just underwhelming compared to expectations. We visited during Super Bowl weekend, so the restaurant was extremely busy. Our food took about 1.5-1.75 hours to arrive, which was a bit much. That said, the customer service was outstanding. The manager came to our table personally, apologized for the delay, and offered complimentary appetizers, which went a long way and was handled with true professionalism. I'm still glad we went and would absolutely return on a non-event weekend. I suspect the food and pacing would shine much more under normal circumstances. read more

We've been talking about this place for awhile but hesitant to go because the prices are a little high. Finally, it was our buddies birthday so we said why not try it and support Steph Curry and Michael Minna. We made a reservation to make sure we got in. We got there early and they sat us down right away. Our waiter (Susa) came right away to see if we needed water or drinks. We ordered some waters for the table, drinks, and we also ordered the bread to snack on. The drinks came a short time later along with some complimentary fries cooked three ways. The fries were so delicious with the cajun, garlic, and plain. They came with three dipping sauces bbq, ketchup, ranch. The bread came right after we received the fries which seemed like awhile. We didn't order any appetizers but we did order the French Onion soup, and the wedge salad to start. For our entrees we ordered the Ribeye steak with scallops, the Short Ribs, the New York Steak, the Chicken, and the Filet Mignon. For the sides we ordered the mashed potatoes which came three ways, and the Brussels sprouts. Our entrees came out after awhile. My guys said that their steaks were cooked perfect (med rare), and good flavor. The chicken was cooked perfect and tender.My short ribs had some good flavor to it but it wasn't tender enough that you didn't need a knife. You would think since it cooks for a long time that it would fall apart. The mash potatoes three ways (horseradish, regular, and lobster) were really good and whipped nicely. The sprouts were the best i've ever had, really good flavor and cooked perfect. If you do go plan on being there awhile because nothing is rushed there which was fine for us. Oddly situation in the Westin St Francis, where I'm used to the gingerbread castle and the pop up holiday champagne bar. They managed to turn their lobby and side area in to a restaurant and bar. When you first enter it's a little confusing, where to go and what it what. When you get situated and into the vibe it becomes more restaurant and less hotel lobby. Luckily got sat in the corner which was away from the back and forth of hotel passerby's. The service was excellent! The drinks were good. The Nikkei in the bay was delicious! For dinner tried the potatoe leek soup and the braised wagyu short rib. Both were delicious. The short rib was melt in your mouth fall off the bone. I saw this place on instagram and wanted to come for my birthday dinner. The ambiance was romantic and classy. It's located in the Westin Hotel in Union Square. They gave me a hand written birthday card which was sweet and touching. I love that you get complimentary flight of French fries. I got the Japanese a5 wagyu while my partner got the rib eye. My husband made reservations in advance to celebrate my birthday. We found street parking a few blocks away. We walked through the entrance of the hotel to get to the restaurant. The check in process was in an awkward position with the line blocking the bar and the steps towards the tables. As for the food, the most memorable dish we had was the Maine lobster pot pie. My husband still raves about this dish from time to time. Everything in this dish was delicious! It was just unfortunate how the other servers were walking behind the cart and we couldn't quite pay full attention to the unveiling of the pie. We got the bone in ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. It paired very well with the mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. We were so full that we only ate a few slices of the steak but it was still good even as leftovers. We didn't know the fries were complimentary and probably would've ordered less food if we had down. The fries and sauces were crunchy and loaded with flavors. The wedge salad was delicious and one of our favorites. Now the black truffle bread. I wasn't sure if we made the right choice to have one each but thank goodness we did. It was soooo good and I wanted more. We got the tuna tartare and it was our least favorite. As for the drinks, we tried a few and some were very stiff and not that memorable. The only one we really liked was the international smoke. Our Valentine's night started out rough (and not the good kind of rough). Not because of any fault on this business' part, but because traffic getting into and around SF was particularly horrific. Like some of the worst I've seen, and I worked in the city for years. As a result, we were running uncharacteristically late for our reservation. We were running around like chickens with our heads cut off checking into our hotel and grabbing a Lyft to the restaurant. Did I mention the traffic was unbelievable? We called the restaurant a couple of times, and were told they probably wouldn't be able to hold the table. I was bracing myself for the disappointment of being turned away after looking forward to this dinner for many weeks, but happily, when we finally arrived, they were gracious and seated us. So, first a bit of background. Bourbon Steak is a Michael Mina restaurant. We loved the original Michael Mina in SF, and had a very special Valentine's dinner there one year, so we were stoked to try Bourbon Steak for this year's celebration. The restaurant is located in the Westin St. Francis hotel in Union Square. Last time we were in this hotel, Clock Bar was still around - that place was awesome, btw. Now it's been completely redone with a brand new attractive lobby bar which like every other spot in the city was packed out on Valentine's night. The check-in staff welcomed us and escorted us through the lobby and into a dimly lit, sophisticated, very grown-up dining room. The walls are dark green, with a floral/forest-y motif, very pretty. Tables are spaced far enough apart where you can have an intimate conversation. The servers donned dark green suit jackets, very classy. Our lovely server Rebecca introduced herself to us and gave us time to settle in. We started with a couple of cocktails, lemon drop for me, tequila and lime juice for RB. I'm particular with my lemon drops, I like them with minimal sweetener. I want to taste lemon, not sugar. Some bartenders don't understand this, and make them on the sweeter side anyway, but here, the lemon drop was perfect, exactly how I ordered it. The Valentine's menu was prix fixe, $150pp. It included a starter course, a main, sides for the table, and dessert. I opted for the butternut squash ravioli for the stater, and the lobster spaghetti for the main. RB had the bacon-wrapped scallops for his starter, and the filet mignon as the main. We both got the cheesecake for dessert. There was plenty of food, and I would have been happy to share one full meal, but I don't think that's an option. I ended up having most of my food packed up, I can't eat that much in one sitting. But everything was delicious. The lobster spaghetti was my favorite part. They did not skimp on the lobster, the spaghetti was perfectly al dente, and the sauce had just the right amount of spice. I don't eat red meat but RB's medium rare filet looked perfectly cooked to the ordered temperature, and he was very happy with it. We decided to order a bottle of wine. The sommelier came out to talk with us and was very pleasant. When my partner mentioned his affinity for Duckhorn wines, she asked if he had any Three Palms, which he does and loves. This somm knows her stuff! We went with a bottle of the Freemark Abbey 2021 cab, which paired well with our dinner. We took our time enjoying as we tend to do, and were checked in on but never rushed, which I very much appreciate. Valentine's Day is the most important holiday of the year, eventhough I think everyday is Valentine's Day with my partner. But that's a different story. Every V Day we go to a nice, no very nice restaurant. This year, Bourbon Steak. We have been to Mina restaurants before, even on V Day in San Francisco so we knew what to expect regarding service, drinks and food. And it was dead on. Traffic was horrendous in to the city probably the worst we have ever seen and we use to be here every day. We were running late and in fear of losing our table table because we were late and there is a 15 minute table hold. Well luckily after a couple phone calls along the way we were still able to get our table. Thank you to the team. Service was flawless eventhough we "disrupted the flow" being late. I get it running a restaurant of this caliber is an orchestrated dance of sorts. My partner started of with a perfect non sweet lemon drop with little ice crystals floating on top. Being the one trick pony I am, I had tequila with lime. We also ordered a bottle of the Freemark Abby 2021 cab. A little dryer than I remembered but still excellent. We sarted of with oysters together. My partner had the squash heart shaped ravioli and lobster spaghetti. I had the bacon wrapped scallops and the Filet cause someone needs to work on the out of control cow population. We shared a Basque cheesecake and took one to go. I had two of the best dishes of my entire year in one night. First of all they started our group off with a complimentary glass of champagne and a clever pairing of three different styles of French fry each with its own dipping sauce. For the appetizers, the Steak tartare is a must have and the Crab Cake Pot Tart was ridiculously good and unlike any other dish I've seen. Like a cross between spanakopita with a crab cake filling. The steaks are all deliciously prepared to your specific level and the sides are quite generous. The wine library is extensive! Mostly beyond what I was willing to spend but still a healthy number of options that won't break the bank. We had an amazing dinner at Bourbon Steak! The meal started with a complimentary trio of "baked potatoes," which were more like a flight of gourmet French fries -- each with its own unique flavor and paired with three different dipping sauces. So nice to have Bourbon Steak back! Went tonight and everything was great. Venue is fantastic - huge open ceiling with a luxury vibe and attentive staff. Our service was great as everyone has come to expect from a Michael Mina restaurant. What can I say? I think as far as Steakhouses go in SF this is right up there with the best. SF isn't a steakhouse city but there is enough good steak places now to put us on the map. Bourbon Steak is a welcome addition. Everything we had was delicious. Our attentive server knew that my wife is vegetarian so she brought out the famous duck fat fries that were vegetarian! I didn't even notice until she told us they were not cooked in duck fat. They were still superb. That kicked things off for us. We had: The Wedge: 8/10 They cut it in half and put the egg and bacon on the side for me. I thought it was good but not as good as good steakhouses that give you a huge one with chilled blue cheese dressing. Burrata Agnolotti: 8/10 This was an interesting dish and satisfying, just not mind blowing. Filet Mignon: 9/10 I ordered it with the truffle butter. I thought that would come on the side so I was a little surprised to see a pretty huge slice of it on top of the steak. I allowed about half of it and scraped off the rest. The filet was cooked medium and it was very tender. It was salted very nicely with just a hint of salt on the exterior and the truffle butter complemented it very well. I enjoyed and savored each bite. Whipped potatotoes: 10/10 These are divine. Super creamy mashed potatoes and yeah, probably a stick of butter in them but they don't taste overly buttery and are a dream. Black truffle macaroni gratinee: 9.5/10 The mac n cheese type dish at first isn't terribly impressive but as that mushroomy truffle gratinee that is spread on top starts to kick in after each bite it's a real winner. Light and creamy with bold mushroomy truffle goodness. Charred broccollini - 10/10 An attempt to make this at least mildly healthy. To our surprise it was one of the best dishes. The charred broccolini had the perfect crunch and tender interior. We also ordered onion rings but couldn't possibly eat even one of them. All in all I loved it as I have all other Mina restaurants. The vibe and atmosphere are wonderful. Service is fantastic. The food is excellent. It isn't standard steak house fare; I think he borrows from French style with a lot of cream and butter but it works and everything is salted perfectly. Normally you'd be tasting salt in everything with food like this but it's balanced perfectly in all dishes. To top off the evening Steph Curry came in with his family and some friends to dine a few tables down from us. Undoubtedly he'd like to see how his bar is doing downstairs which appeared to be doing just fine. It was cool seeing the legend in his own skin out having a good time with his peeps. Last thing I'll mention is Union Square was absolutely buzzing. It was so nice to see after so many years of doom and gloom there. Had the opportunity to eat at Bourbon Steak on Day 8 (of being open) and it exceeded expectations! It was my first time eating at a Michael Mina restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I love how the restaurant is in the Westin, particularly because we can valet the car and not have to worry about it. The bar & lounge area offers a stylish, elevated atmosphere and the main dining area's high ceilings add to its grand, upscale feel. The tables have plenty of space between them, and the chairs are plush and comfortable. We ordered: - Burrata agnolott (3.5/5): Very solid pasta dish - loved the light flavors and pillowy filling, but overall it did not wow us. - Brussel sprouts (4/5): Cooked perfectly - definitely recommend to add to your order as a side. - Tomahawk steak (4.5/5): Incredible tomahawk steak cooked to a perfect medium rare. Loved the flambé tableside unwrapping they did before the chef sliced it up for us. The meat was exceptionally tendor and the chimichurri sauce enhanced the flavor! Celebrated a friend's birthday at Bourbon steak over the weekend and it was such a lovely restaurant and private dining room. We had a group of around 24 ladies and we had a room off the main restaurant. The food was good, though it was a pre-fixe / family style menu, so I couldn't really order anything a la carte. The drinks were great - wine and cocktail selection was solid. The best thing I had was the NY Strip steak. Even though there were leftovers that they packed up for us, it didn't feel like there was enough food. I know when we were passing around the plates, seemed like a lot of folks were taking really small portions because it didn't seem like there would be enough for everyone. If we had our husbands with us, I think they might have gone home still hungry. Chicken and Salmon were also good, still moist, but didn't stand out. The beignets weren't warm either which I think could have really elevated the dessert experience because all the sauces were reallly yummy. Service was really solid - shoutout to the entire team and to Madelena(?)/Madeline? (I'm so sorry!!) for her kindness and warmth the entire evening. We stopped by here without a reservation on Sunday night as soon as they opened. We weren't able to be seated inside the restaurant but they sat us at a table in the lounge. Our server was so attentive, everything we ordered came out quickly and we even got a complimentary appetizer (fry trio) We had to get the famous tuna tartare and it did not disappoint. It's inside the Westin Hotel, the decor leading to the restaurant entrance is absolutely gorgeous. We were seated right away, the service was top tier. We were there for a birthday celebration. Everyone enjoyed the entrees & sides. Two people agreed that the steak was better than BoBo's I was in shock because the guys love BoBo's Steak. Others had the salmon and said it was delicious. The waiter suggested the Branzino, I went with it. However, I should have followed my first mind and went with the RedSnapper. The Branzino was bland & fishy . Yes very much so, they had sauce or something on top along with a vegetable. The fish did was not good . I asked them to please take it back. I didn't order anything else . I was so disappointed. I did eat some of the Brussels sprouts that I ordered as a side , great flavor but too hard for me. Oh the chef served us 3 different flavors of French fries as appetizers. That was nice of him . The fam and I went for Christmas Eve dinner. I had reserved the Matinee Menu which was $125 for 3 courses. There was a bit of a mixup and they did not know the that was what we ordered but they pivoted and printed out the menus for us. The soup course came with the wrong soup, but they fixed it with grace and went above and beyond to fix it. The restaurant is beautiful, a great place for a very special occasion. The service from everyone is top notch, from server to food runner to manager. And the food is delicious! The only tiniest complaint is that some of the sides came cold, but the mains were amazing. I was already full by the time my steak came, and I finished the rest of it for Christmas morning breakfast and it was still perfection. Been wanting to stop by to check out Michael Mina's Bar located as one walks inside the front Powell Street entrance. Arriving at 4 pm when they opened, Bartender Carlos recommended this easy going Japanese whiskey which was okay but I was spoiled after a recent trip to a place called Crouching Lion 30 minutes after one leaves Brigham Young University from the North Shore of Oahu where I had a 27 yr old Japanese whiskey "Teitessa." Now that was a shot to remember! Fast forwardc to the present, after having my shot, I had Carlos make us a New York Sour which was great. Carlos was great and engaging even though the Saturday rush was upon him starting at 4:45 pm. Highly recommend coming here for a libation or two especially now that Union Square and the hotel are decorated for the Holidays. read more

I checked out bourbon steak the other day. My friend made a reservation but due to some miscommunication with the staff they could not get us seated for over 30 minutes. Unfortunately, they were a bit busy so we couldn't sit inside, but we were able to get seated outside near the bar area. We tried a couple appetizers that were pretty good however, nothing wow'd me. I did enjoy the crabcake pop tart. Overall, I think I had higher expectations. However, we didn't try the steak so I will have to go back for that I guess.. read more

I've had amazing experiences at other Michael Mina restaurants, but unfortunately this location really missed the mark. The service was honestly terrible. We were seated and didn't receive menus for about 10 minutes. Our server eventually came by, but after ordering wine, only one glass was poured and we waited another five minutes before the second was served. We also had to ask two or three times for the complimentary fries, and they didn't arrive until after our entrées -- and by then they were cold. It was really disappointing, especially considering how beautiful the restaurant is and how great the food tasted. We ordered the short ribs and the swordfish, and both dishes were delicious and full of flavor. If I were visiting from out of town, I wouldn't come back based on this experience. I hope the staff pays closer attention to guests, even on busy nights. The lack of attentiveness made us feel unwelcome, which is such a shame given how stunning the space is. read more

Disappointing. Michael Mina's restaurant unfortunately did not live up to its hype. Food mediocre at best. Service was good and the venue decor was nice in the elegant St. Francis Hotel in Union Square. I had the lobster pot pie (2 of 5 stars). It left a lot to be desired. First off the lobster is NOT fresh. For $125 I expect a fresh lobster or at least something tasting close to fresh. Yes I have been spoiled by my time in Maine (those lobster shacks can't be beat!) but even the Chinese restaurants in San Gabriel Valley understand what fresh seafood is all about focusing on having live seafood tanks to assure freshness. but fine steakhouses like the Palms can do fresh Maine lobster better! So I was majorly disappointed but entertained by the presentation of the freshly baked crust and large pot with veggies and sauce which had a taste not quite what I would call amazing. I did taste some veggies broccolini (5 of 5 stars) which was really good as well as some mashed potatoes (4 of 5 stars) and starter French fries (3 of 5 stars). One of our party had the French onion soup which was thumbs down. Maybe I should focus on steak next time if there is one. read more
