This is a wonderful place to shop for gifts in the middle of nowhere. From outside it doesnt look like much although I really enjoyed the rusty vintage cars out front. It also has items related to the Southwest, the desert, Native Americans, Mexico, and space aliens. Some of it looks good, but I wonder how authentic it is. Prices are naturally a little high. I love road trips and love souvenirs. However, there are only so many shot glasses and keychains one can buy over the years. It is hard to tell which roadside pitstop will have more than the usual offerings of souvenirs. I am not a fan of items that are made in China especially along the road that is known for having a vibrant culture such as the I 10 freeway that runs across the southwest of the US. This location was a wonderful find. They had a wide variety of bags, blankets, jewelry, tshirts, ceramics, Native American cultural items made by Native Americans. I could have bought the whole store. Back in the day, trading posts would sell these items to tourists and also help support the local artistic community. It seems this location is keeping that tradition alive. Yes, you will find your usual and expected kitschy items such as name tag keychains, mugs, postcards, and even a wide array of fireworks. There is something for everyone. Aside from spending quite a bit of time and money here, I was especially impressed by the staff who was not only friendly but also happy and joking with me. They not only helped me decide between items to purchase, but also carefully wrapped every single piece that I bought. When I got home, I almost panicked thinking that some things went missing and did not make it into my car, but I found that everything was so wonderfully wrapped and had its own individual box. They really took the time to care for my purchases and to make sure that I found what I needed and had a great experience in their shop. Nice little pit stop. They are nice and let you use the restroom if you need to, but be sure to look around they have plenty of goodies to chose from. I just needed a clean restroom. Bowlin's has a very nice restroom, and on top of that, their selection of goods hit the spot! First they have a wide selection of Black Cat Fireworks™. Since it's right before the Fourth of July, firecrackers seemed like a very necessary thing. Then I got into a conversation with a very friendly and knowledgeable lady about the Indian jewelry that they have there- it's all local handmade silver with local turquoise and some Arizona turquoise. There is also lapis lazuli jewelry, and I saw some rhodochrosite- beautiful jewelry, well-crafted. So as we were going to texas from california we kept seeing these huge billboards. We decided sure why not, looks cool. As we pulled in the place looked a little creepy. My husband and I were a little skeptic about this place. I should know looks can be deceiving. As soon as I walked in I was blown away by the different items they had. From the shirts to the fire works! All at reasonable prices in my opinion. They didn't really have food, more like snacks but that's okay. The bathrooms smelled clean! (Huge plus!) We stopped in to grab a souvenir and take my grandsons to the rest room. Ages 2/3, and the staff was NOT nice. The male named Larry was rude to my three year old grandson who was playing with a toy and literally stared him down. Yes a grown man stared down a 3yr old. Tough gun toting Larry all 75 years of him. We were about to purchase but decided not to condone his behavior towards us. That's why racism continues, people chose to pretend like it isn't happening.
