This is a unique roadside markets along the 40 that has real character, with a shop full of all sorts of unique items and tons, and I mean tons of giant fireworks! They sell them year round and have the good stuff, including some really big mortars, which were super tempting. There's also a dairy queen, and a few gas pumps, to round out anything you might need on your road trip! The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I dropped by at an off time to use the facilities, and they had no problem with that. Everything was reasonably clean as well. Overall you can't go wrong with dropping by here on any road trip. I travel to 40 a lot, and this is the first time I have stopped at Bowlin's. From the outside, this place doesn't look too impressive and small. Once you get inside. Oh boy! Was I wrong. They have some really cool stuff that other road stop sites do not have plus they have a Dairy Queen. Anyway, the staff is very friendly and one guy in particular by the name of Ron who helped me out tremendously. He had a wealth of knowledge regarding pretty much everything in the store, especially fireworks. You know, it seems like customer service these days is almost nonexistent, but this place proved me wrong again. Fun roadside souvenir spot with a wide range of cheap and expensive items. I bought a $12 baja and a $9 tee-shirt. They had a large range of styles/styles of tees, Baja's and other apparel. They also had some nice Knick-knacks like dream catchers and night lights. The bathrooms were clean, which is nice because they are the only option for about 40 miles. They also have gas but we didn't fuel up and I did not take note of their prices. Employees were friendly and one gave us a basic tour when we walked in "bathrooms this way, Dairy Queen that way and merchandise is in the middle". Nice place to stop. Clean and Safe. Don't be fooled. It's clearly a touristy place, but don't let that stop you from picking up some trinkets. Staff is helpful and not pushy with their sales. Not a good stop for Rving in a class A towing a vehicle even though the bill boards up to the exit said for Big Rigs, 18 wheeler parking. Now if you drive past the pumps there is a parking lot so that helps but the pumps were lined up straight when you pull in, not stacked, if traveling in a big rig I'd go t the next stop. read more

Super friendly staff in the shop!!! 5 star staff service, but only in the main shop. So many things to look at in here, souvenirs Everywhere! It's fun to stop and look if you have time. They were fairly large bathrooms, so easy to get the family in and out. MOST EXPENSIVE GAS IN NEW MEXICO!! They were literally $.80 more per gallon than the next gas station we drove passed. Way overpriced gas! The Dairy Queen was the absolute worst part of the trip. Ordered 5 sandwiches and a large cheese curd. Cost $55 and took about 20 minutes to get the order. The girl behind the counter was speaking to a coworker when I walked up to and continued to talk while I was standing there. Ok, take your time, I'll wait I guess ‍ she asked me if I wanted ranch or marinara with my cheese curds, so I said sure, I'll take both. She then charges me $.49 for a small cup of ranch. Really??!! She could have at least told me in advance that ranch was extra. While we were waiting, an elderly guy's food came out and she was calling out his number. He didn't answer so she called out the order and he smiled and said "Oh that's me". She dropped off his food then turned away rolling her eyes and had a huge attitude. Did I mention that she never told me my number, it was at the bottom of the receipt, but clearly the older man never saw it. He later went up and asked for a tartar sauce because he got the fish sandwich, and she loudly told him "no, I have to charge you $.50" then she hollered at her manager to loudly confirm she couldn't give him a free tarter sauce. Unnecessary, and completely rude to an old man. The fish sandwich was over cooked and cost $8 just for the sandwich. I'm assuming that old man was on a fixed income and just coming up for a quick lunch so he could get off the farm and say hi to a few people. My first impression of this place was 'wow'. They have a lot of souvenirs for sale ranging from keychains to clothing. I was traveling through New Mexico during the month of October and saw several billboards advertising for this place and decided to stop by and check it out. They advertise dollar ice cream cones so that was cool. There is a DQ inside the store so if you need food this is it! They do have handmade knifes for sale as well as jewlery made by native americans. Some of the zarapes and blankets on sale here are imported from Mexico and not made by natives. Walking around i did see several signs that said 'made locally' I did use the bathrooms but those could have been better-taken care of. The staff needs to be on top of those bathrooms to make sure they are clean. In terms of staff i did have one staff member ask me if i needed help and then started complimenting me on how cool my hair was. I ended up buying a mug for my mom and a shot glass for my collection back home. Word of advice, you can easily spend a lot of money here from all that they have for purchase. read more

This place is so cool!! They have a bunch of different native american style collectibles and pieces and it feels like a museum when you are inside. They also sell very hard to find fireworks and the staff is THE BEST. Very friendly and kind and ready to help you find what you need. In a spot where we really needed to get gas and take a break but did not see anything coming when we started seeing billboards every 500 ft or so for about 10 miles. Fireworks, DQ, Gas, Restrooms, Handmade Native American Jewelry, you name it, this place said it had it. So, we stopped. Real long building. Only about 12 gas pumps. DQ at the end. If you're only wanting to stop for a second, do not go here because I must have spent an hour. They have so much cool stuff to look at it is unreal. From cheap to expensive. I did half my Christmas shopping. This place is full of unique gifts. Everything you can imagine. You must see it to believe it. I visited your establishment yesterday and found a beautiful men's turquoise ring in one of the display cases underneath the locked glass. I was in the market for one and really liked it so I jumped in with both feet against my better judgment (maybe). I have almost regretted it entirely since then and feel that it has been my $143 mistake. I have worried about its authenticity, given its price and where I bought it from. I mean no offense to your establishmeant, I just question my decision and regret it. In an attempt to make myself feel better about the authenticity of my ring I searched on the internet and found the yelp reviews. One of the responses Flying C made to a customer's issues contained the following language: "When purchasing Native American Handcrafted jewelry and many other items, you will receive a certificate of authenticity with the artist's Native American census number." I received no certificate of authenticity with the artist's Native American census number. Instead I got a photocopied piece of paper certifying that the jewelry was made by a Native American artisan and that it was warranted for 90 days. Instead of finding solace and comfort in my purchase, my situation was made worse. There is no artist stamp on the inside of the ring as I have now learned there can be. Anyway, I'm disappointed. Beware and ask lots of questions, I guess. I have a beautiful ring but its beauty has been cheapened by my uncertainty as to who made it and what materials were used. I should have exercised more caution... but tough lesson to learn--I don't even know if I have any recourse at this point. I am no longer even in New Mexico anymore. I have tried to upload this review with pictures of the ring and the "certificate of authenticity" but they won't upload using my iPad. read more

Joke. Joke. Joke. First... be careful. The "two" exits come up quickly from the East. It's geared for truckers however as stated in other reviews, this IS NOT a trucker fuel point. There are two pumps with diesel and you may be able to fill a moving truck or RV if lucky. You'll also know you're getting ripped off since gas is about 30-50 cents more than all other fuel stations (paying for signs...); and the famous DQ... never EVER have I seen anyone weigh the ice cream for a sundae. I was like really? The server didn't even fill the cup up. Service is slow. Bathroom needs fixing... so this is all overhyped to get ya in the overpriced place. Folks are friendly but that's about it. Skip and head to the next stop. It's a full travel center.... unless your wanting to see what all those damn signs were about... stop and laugh. Really cool gas station with a ton of variety in their souvenirs and items. They had items ranging from typical gas station items such as snacks and drinks all the way to cowboy boots and other things that embody the New Mexico cowboy image that many people likely have in mind. The workers are quick to direct you when you walk in whether you are looking for bathrooms or the connected Dairy Queen. Everything was fine except the restrooms which generally don't hold a ton of weight (generally 1 star), but for a gas station where people generally go it is very important. The handicap stall was flooded and creating an aroma you could smell as soon as you walk in. I saw a handicap man struggling in a wheelchair in the restroom which wouldn't have been a problem given they had taken care of the restroom. "Expletive deleted" this place! Normally when I create a draft on my phone i just type random letters and hit save. I felt so strongly about my experience here that I actually typed out that first sentence including the deleted expletive. Since I want to keep this family friendly,I removed it from this final draft. This place sucks. Let me repeat that: This place sucks. Let me count the ways. 1. Location - The billboards advertising the DQ and store begin many many miles away. Since it is sort of in the middle of nowhere people flock from miles around. How does that suck? For starters, the place is packed. The line for the gas pumps was at least ten deep and the parking lot was overcrowded. The line for the pumps blocked the parking area, but we lucked out and got a spot on the side by the DQ. Since all we really wanted was a bathroom and snack from DQ we figured we would just enter there and be on our way. Hell NO! Every freakin entrance to this place is blocked except one entrance and exit towards the middle of the building. Apparently they want every person visiting to wander through the aisles of fireworks, cheap shirts and other assorted junk. Because there was only one in and one out, it was ridiculously packed. Making matters worse was the gaggle of jackasses who wanted to block the doorways waiting for their group of randos buying junk. 2. Stuff - I have never seen a more random collection of junk in my life. There were fireworks of all varieties, knives of all varieties, clothing, strange signs, and even a stuffed Buffalo. I'd imagine the plethora of people coupled with the limited access would make this a nightmare if some lunatic started igniting all those fireworks. 3. DQ - This is not your typical DQ. It is small, understaffed and packed with people. Waiting for our food was made more difficult by the large amount of junk on display including a display of signs that would fall over when anyone brushed past it. I left this place disgusted and hope to never return. read more
