Anyone that has ever moved farther than just across town knows how much of a pain it can be trying to acquire boxes. Sure you can go to Uhal and pay and arm and a leg for theirs, but who wants to cough of a lot of cash just for boxes. I highly recommend Discount Box. When you walk in it is like the box mecca of the world. About any size box you can think they probably have along with all kinds of tape, bubble wrap and foam. They even got bags of peanuts! But in all reality this place is beyond awesome. No one ever wants to pay more than they have to on shipping materials and this place knows that. They have boxes for dirt cheap. Happened in January of 2014 Will NEVER use this uhaul site again. Made a reservation, went to pick up the truck that wasn't on the site. Were told by phone representatives to go to another Mission Gorge site; making us do the runaround for their mistake! We go to the second site and they had no idea why we were sent their way, nor did they know whom we were talking about, when we told them who sent us to them. So, we got on the phone for the second time and by now all the centers are losing due to this mishap. The phone reps tell us that we now have to go to the Lemon Grove sight, while we live in the Mission Valley area. Again, WE are being told to do the runaround. Not even so much as an offer to have one of their main people at the Lemon Grove sight drive one over to us, to compensate for their mistakes. The phone representative was glib, at best. The people at both sites were apathetic to our limited resources with time and rides all over San Diego county. We had people waiting on our word for when to show up at our apartment for the loading of the truck. These people at the centers and on the phone did not care and definitely NOT problem solvers. I have used uhaul many times in the past. I've always excused their LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE and what little tact they may have possessed. No more. I'm DONE with uhaul. I've resourced another company (Budget) and they not only had wonderful customer service, they were $150 cheaper and had a bigger and better condition truck than usual uhaul trucks. Watch 'em like a hawk, challenge their suggestions, ask why this, why that, and isn't there some cheaper way. They will suggest packaging that is very expensive instead of cheaper solutions. Woman at the front desk is completely rude. I came in and as i was walking to the front she glared at me the whole time. When i got to the front she said nothing and i said hi i have to ship something.. and she said ok and then she got on her computer and she said zip code and i didn't hear her and she was like ZIP CODE?!!! i then told her and when i was standing there on my phone i felt her glaring at me the whole time. So I went there to have an envelope sent international through DHL. The guy quoted me $175 to mail an 8oz envelope. I thought that sounded way high, so as he typed in the information I quickly typed in the same info in my phone on dhl website. DHL website quoted me $75.93. A hundred dollar difference???? I went into the store today and the person at the counter asked me "can I help you" and that is where the customer service stopped. I asked for boxes 20 x 20 x 20 (15) of them and he brought them out and I paid. At any time did the employee smile or ask me if I wanted tape ............ NOTHING. I had 15 heavy boxes and 3 LAZY employees standing around do you think one asked if they could help me take those to my car or "can I get the door" NO? BAD, BAD, BAD customer service. Super rude owner! I would give no stars if possible. The prices are misleading, the amount posted in bigger bolder font is actually not the retail price for each, it's the bundle price. I had already put my item in the bubble mailer and sealed it when the lady at the register was charging me double the price. I asked her why the sign says $1.23 and not $2.55, she said "Oh that's the bundle price. The single price is down here.." (pointing to the bottom left of the sign.) I told her it's very misleading because for someone like me who is in a hurry, all I do is look for the big bold amount in the middle of the sign. She proceeds to call the owner and the owner is a super rude old man Who tells me that most of their sales are in bulk so that's the way they do their prices. I told him that this is the first time I've been here so I did not know that they sell mostly in bulk and that a regular person would just find the big price in the middle and assume it's for a one piece. He says to me "So you want us to lose on the sale because you can't read the sign?" I said "well I was thinking that as a sign of customer service you would work with me on a compromise." He said "I can give you the single price today if you agree never to come back in this store again." I paid my total and left without thanking this rude man. What an a$$. How is that a proper way of speaking to a customer?" He could just have said "this will be the first and only time we will do this for you." Mind you I look younger than my age but I'm a 35-year old woman who is in the marketing industry so I'm a grown person who happened to be in a hurry and needed packaging material and to be in and out of there, I'm not some dumb teenager who can't read. THis was my first time visiting Box Galaxy. The store was clean and the service was great. I found everything I was looking for and the prices in the store matched the advertised online prices. The clerk helped me decide the best way to store and ship fragile items and he was also up front about some accessories that aren't really needed but sure add to the expense (dish pack kits with inserts for example). Pricing is great, quality is great. Finally, the clerk even helped me load my purchase into my truck, I purchased the B package Plus and several mirror boxes for our fine art pieces. The 2 paintings arrived safe and sound but I am taking time out to write this review because I am just so impressed with the packaging! They did such an amazing job. I rented a U-Haul truck from these guys on 9/4/2014. Could not be more happy with their service. In and out in less than 5 minutes and they don't nickel and dime you to death like some locations. Much like another review, I too am shocked at some of the reviews here and can only assume the problem was with the reviewer and not the business. (Maybe not so shocked after what I witnessed here one day last year) I have been going to Box Galaxy for a while now, and deal with them on a regular basis now days. I deal in art and used to have paintings professionally packed at another store not too far away. It turns out that I was not only paying way more, but the packing wasn't all that professional. After speaking with the head packing guy at Box Galaxy I quickly realized that the people at the other place didn't really know what they were doing. Service is excellent, and these guys are fun to deal with. They have every kind of packing material you can think of for shipping, or even moving, with the biggest selection anywhere that I have seen. As for what I witnessed here one day last year... This review is based on a uhaul truck rental. Was convenient location and the check-in/ check-out process was relatively quick compared to a lot of other uhaul rentals I've done in the past. The store was clean and nice inside. Reasons for star reductions: 1- truck was dirty from previous renter. Guy even told us a previous user got mud all over inside and hadn't been cleaned yet. If it is that bad, it should be cleaned before allowed to be rented again. Got dirt on a lot of my stuff (rather annoying). 2- the guy who helped us was not very friendly and needs to work on his customer service. I'm tired of all the snooty/ hipster guys that give that sarcastic "whatever" attitude. I except full smiles and pleasantries if you expect me to be a return customer. read more

These guys are scum. They double charged me for my box rental. What's worse is I asked them to combine the three pieces of mail I had there into one envelope and send it to me at my home. Instead, they sent 1 letter at a time IN AN EXPENSIVE PADDED ENVELOPE NO LESS, THEN CHARGED ME NEARLY $12 FOR A PIECE OF MAIL THAT WEIGHED 3OZ! The prices for most shipping materials are one-third to half what others are charging. I was very impressed by their selection. They had just about ever piece of packing material you can imagine there.I was even able to reduce my costs another 10 percent thanks to a coupon on Google right now until the end of the month. They carry peanuts which are made of cornstarch and ones made of recycled plastic. Take your pick. I strongly recommend this place. (They were previously known as "Discount Box and Shipping" but have changed their names. They also offer packing services for both UPS and FedEx. I don't know about other ones. Check out their website too because the prices for everything are right there. (This place is a complete 180 degrees from my experience at a price gouging shop which I reviewed earlier today which would not even give estimates for their services). read more

Today my driver attempted to purchase a couple of boxes to ship a package out. He let the person at the front know the measurements and weight. The individual at the front counter let him know that this type of shipment was possible however they could not ship on our account so we had to drive to another fedex location. Upon arriving to two other fedex locations we were told they did not allow "piece mailed" boxes and therefore we could not ship with fedex. I called the owner personally to discuss this with him and he was helpful in trying to get us a freight quote that was lower than previous quotes but his was almost double (not his fault). However, when I did ask him if he was willing to offer a refund for the boxes that did not work due to the fact my employee was given mis-information he refused. Your experience may var and our experience might be an isolated incident. I do believe in the world we are currently living in we should strive to make our customers happy and coming back. read more

I advise you to always take your UPS package to a legitimate UPS Store instead. I was lured into their store on the basis of seeing a UPS trademark when unknown to me at that time Discount box Galaxy took no responsibility for any packages left there. I have photographic evidence showing how they confuse their customers by displaying the UPS logo on their outside window including the UPS Shield. Because of this I thought they had to be affiliated with UPS as at least a drop off point for UPS but later after leaving a $300 package thinking it was protected by the receipt they gave me, only later finding out according to the receipt they gave me, that they took no responsibility for the package I left. In addition the tracking number they put on the receipt was wrong. Later I learned that they were not an actual dropbox for UPS at all and my package could have been easily stolen by either them or the general public as they obviously had no reason to protect it nor took any reasonable steps to protect it. Avoid leaving packages here unless you don't care if they wind up lost or stolen. The receipt they gave me states in writing that "they take no responsibility for the package left for UPS, FEDEX or USPS." When I confronted them about this issue the manager rudely kicked me out of their store. read more
