My husband and I have had our taxes done here the past three years. Like the previous reviewer, our tax situation has gotten a lot more complex over that time-- being in and out of the military, being a student, having babies, getting married, having investments, etc. Last year, after the DOD didn't provide information showing they paid some of my student loans (which counts as income), we received a letter from the IRS saying that we failed to report income and owed upwards of $4K (we had previously received a refund). We were obviously quite distraught, but as it turned out, the IRS messed up in their calculations and a simple phone call from our accountant cleared it up and we didn't have to pay anything. It's going to cost a bit more than going to a chain, but I think it's well worth it to know that it's done right. The accountants know what they are talking about and they stay in touch throughout the year with reminders, checklists, etc. It's also pretty cool how they provide you with a summary folder afterword that includes your tax return, as well as a neat visual analytics sheet of your information.

I was asked each question multiple times and then asked if I was telling the truth. I was not seen on time. At the end of the process I ended up paying in order to get my documents back in my possesion and I did not have them file for me. I went to another private tax preparer. I tried to save money by going here and ended up spending more than I would have if I had just gone to the more expensive private preparer. I will never use H&R Block again. If you want to work with a person I suggues going to a private preparer and if you do not need it I would suggest using TurboTax. I went in for customer service and feel that I did not receive it making filing my taxes even worse.

Never in my experience has that been more true, and shame on me for not adhering to that. Owning a small business, tax prep obviously enters a new level. We had been with the same accountants for just over a decade and was never really displeased with the service, just the cost. As years went by I personally became better at my own preparation to spend less time in the accountants office, but fees kept increasing, so finally decided to seek a new accountant. I had been solicited by IRS Masters for my business and decided to give them a try after ensuring desired cost savings. Should have turned and ran at first visit to their small, cluttered, unorganized and far from professional office space, but hey, comes with saving on cost right. Met with apparently the lone CPA a couple times. We had discussion about the fact that we ALWAYS file extensions due to unpredictable delivery of K1's yada, yada, yada. As the date approaches, my previous accountant called to re-confirm filing extension as they had every year before and again informed them we had moved on. Expected service from any professional accounting firm is my perception. So just as I got an uneasy feeling a couple days past filing date, I call to confirm that appropriate extensions were indeed filed as expected. After four, I repeat four phone calls, it took 9 days to finally get a phone call in return to tell me that in fact, no they did not. WTF!?!? Thanks for the IRS penalties! No wonder they have to actively solicit for business. How fast can I get taxes ready and find a new accountant right in the middle of their busiest time of year? Will end up being a painful, costly lesson.
