Boyes in Scarborough is wonderfully diverse! you can literally get anything here…read more The ground floor has a small food section, where you can pick up basics such as milk, tea etc and bizarrely, situated next to the 'grocery' section, is the furniture department. This furniture department isn't like any you'll find on these out of town shopping centres, at boyes that pack it and stack it high and theres often lots of remnants of packing materials over the floor. A lot of the furniture seems fairly dated, but who knows, maybe there's a market for old fashioned future as a lot of people chose to retire to this old seaside town. The next floor up, again, is a mish mash of what I can only describe as 'stuff' from toys to nail varnish remover - it's all here and generally, cheap cheap cheap! Upstairs there is the clothes department, in all honesty just keep walking as the clothes although are cheap, look cheap and are fairly badly made. The one Super duper (did I just say super duper? oh goodness I did, oh well, I'm going with it) the one super duper thing about Boyes is come December the Grotto arrives and the pull out all the stops!! It's located on the ground floor and to get to Santa you go through a beautiful winter wonderland that enchants the kiddies before they even meet the man himself! I make a special trip each year to take my daughter here at christmas, as my mum did with me - lovely

One of the main problems with the shop is the lack of parking immediately outside, it makes it difficult when buying a lot of heavy items, you can't even really pull up outside of either door because of where they are located. The queues at the till are another downside, they can be very long at times and very slow moving. The range of products is very extensive and very good value for money but you do need to check that they haven't at some point been trailed along the floor as alot of there items have.

The homeware part is great, upto date and modern pillows, mirrors, pictures, plates etc at good prices. Nowhere to park outside as it's at a very busy point in the middle of town, so if you do stock up on heavy household items you can struggle to get to the car. There are a couple of nearby car parks though. The queue for the tills is always long, no matter what time of day you go and during the summer the air conditioning had been turned off due to seagulls nesting in it and it was like an oven in there! Never mind the poor suffering customers as long as the birds are comfy haha! At the end of the day there are clothes piled everywhere and all over the floor, I pity the poor souls that have to go round picking everything up!

It sells toys, stationery, gardening items, tools,electrical items, cooking utensils, clothes, shoes, haberdashery, soft furnishings etc etc. The layout is a bit haphazard and I have found that negotiating the aisles with a pushchair can be very problematic. The checkouts can also be a bit of a scrum at times.

Yorkshire Deals also has a good range of plastic boxes, bins and basket that come direct from ThePlasticBoxShop and you can buy what they have on display or order items that suit your needs (I recently ordered three larger plastic stacking boxes for toy storage and have these in three days and was rung when they were in). Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to help and the shop takes cash and debit/credit cards. During the Autumn, they start a Christmas saving scheme where you can order branded/premium toys from a small catalogue and pay them off in the run up to Christmas (goods on receipt of full payment) which is very handy in the current climate (stops impulse buying!) and saves a trip to Northallerton or further for the same items. This shop is a mainstay for many people!

They also have things you often can't find anywhere else in town, like caustic soda which I seem to use abundantly on my recalcitrant drains. They also have a small range of dirt cheap bicycle accessories (e.g. pedals for £2.99 a few months ago) and wiring and faceplates for satellite and network/modem connections. It's all a bit of a hotch-potch really but now Woolies is no more I think Wilkinson's will come into its own.

A Wetherell & Sons is a family owned store that prides its self on its personal service and good customer service. Quite recently the store has benefited from a major refurbishment which to be honest was desperately required to take it out of the 'Grace Brothers' look to a more contemporary one. The new look store is fresher, brighter with new modern fittings and decor. The window displays are greatly improved as it the signage. I had a look at the clothing the other day and the brand names are quality ones as before but aided by the modern surroundings fit much better in the store. The Cafe has always been really good, much like the whole store but only now you can see it.

It is a shop you connect with quality and that is how it has allways been.Anything you buy from there will look good and people say they have things for ages and they stay looking good.This is the sort of shop we need in this town ,the kind people will come here for.
