It's worth noting that Poets Nest is not open on Monday or Tuesday evenings but when Wednesday comes around the wee bar really comes alive. As traditional as they come, expect fiddle'd'dee music when you enter and expect to be greeted by the widest Irish smile from the bar. I opted for a pint of Guinness, obviously, while my girlfriend went for a white wine. We were able to pull up a pew at the bar and enjoy our drinks. For real hospitality call in here for a drink. Unfortunately we just missed the live music but it would be worth scoping out when they have bands playing.

Pat, Una, and their staff were wonderful. We were fortunate to be there during the euros, so I was able to take in the matches (my wife was less enthusiastic about this part). If you want to experience the Irish Midlands this is the place to go; both my wife and I travel and we try and avoid the touristy areas, preferring instead to spend our time meeting new people, and this trip provided that. Being American, I seldom get to have a good talk about football, but Pat was happy to oblige here. He's also made sure that every time I see Archie Gray take the pitch I will think of Weirs.

I cannot believe how large this pub is inside! We stopped by after seeing it on a "Traditional Pubs…read moreof Ireland" poster, and because my grandfather's name was James Griffin. The atmosphere was perfect! It was early Sunday morning, and there were already a few locals inside having their morning beer and reading the newspaper. I did some exploring because it looks so small on the outside, but you get in, and it just keeps going and going. Looks like they get large crowds during the evenings, and even offer lots of live music and DJs. The bartender was friendly.

I went for a cup of seafood chowder to start, followed by the steak sandwich. The chowder was just okay in my opinion. A bit too salty and not as thick as I like it. However, I may be a chowder snob. The steak sandwich in the other hand was unreal! Chunky chips, thick sliced bread and the most tender cut of steak. Perfect for a sandwich. I engulfed all the food. The chips were a winner. Fureys tends to be a busy spot, so you may have to wait to be seated. The staff are amazing and handle your wait really well. We were seated and taken care of really quickly. Definitely worth a visit if you are passing by.
