Good service, open late and AA discounts apply to fuel. What more could you ask for from a BP? Oh yeah, good coffee!

Like everywhere in New Zealand, but still a pleasant surprise, they have a real espresso machine and make the coffee by hand. The store has a fairly small selection of food and beverages in coolers. As for the gas, there's are several pumps and no one seemed to have to wait. It's in the side of the road leaving the airport. It's right by treasure island mini golf, which is just before the butterfly garden, and is probably a useful stop for those who need to fill up before returning a rental car, and who may be hanging out at the activity places by the airport. There's plenty of parking at the gas station.

The staff are friendly locals, who admittedly are slow to help you out (unless you get the nice older man who always gives impeccable service). The petrol can sometimes be on the more expensive side of things so I usually only do a small top up of petrol when I go there. Also because of its size there is only a really small selection of pitt stop goodies you can get there, which is a downfall. So there are no pastries and coffee and things like that, mostly sodas and chips and so forth.

Yep, it's open 24hrs and the staff must see some pretty crazy things. On the topic of pies, the Wild Bean pies are unusually excellent. Not just when drunk. And of course they stock the standard petrol station fare like chocolate, energy drinks, soft drinks as well as muffins, sandwiches and coffee. Two other key points about this particular BP: One, they have an ATM in the back of the store. Two, they can fill up gas bottles. There's a car wash, an air hose, all the usual trimmings you'd expect from a large BP. Probably not the cheapest petrol in town, but a good 'all-round' petrol station that provides many neccessary services.

I usually fill up 1-2 times a fortnight, depending on how much driving I do of course! They have many (petrol) pumps: stock diesel, 95 and 98 petroleum. The "On the Run" shop has a resident "Subway" and small coffee counter. They have most grocery items, beverages, car products, magazines all at premium price. Also there is a ATM inside. Bonus. All the staff are friendly, polite and efficient. Just need a car wash now!

No kidding though... we drove past the Mobil in…read moreAvondale after a visit to the New Lynn night market last Thursday evening and our jaws dropped: their fuel price for the regular ol' 91 octane was sitting at $1.97 a litre. Not only has it been ages since we've seen prices drop below the elusive $2 mark, but it was nearly twenty cents cheaper than some of the gas stations around town! This particular Mobil branch actually has two forecourts (to meet their increasing demand perhaps): the main one off Great North Road and another that you can enter via West Coast Road. Even at 9pm the place was still pretty busy but the line moved quickly so we were in and out within about 15 minutes. It's probably not worth driving out of your way all the way to Avondale (especially if you live on the Shore like me) to save money on petrol but if you're driving nearby and with fuel prices this competitive, it sure doesn't hurt to stop by and fill up your tank.

Anyway, this is a very handy petrol station in the peninsula. The main reason is that the pumps are not on Prepay, so you can just fill up and get on with it. In other stations you have to go in and tell them you want to fill up and this can be time consuming if there are people in front of you. I too found the staff here very nice - I have dealt with quite a few of them and they are all quite friendly. Sometimes I wonder how people who deal with the public can always be so bubbly because when I did this sort of thing years ago, I was fairly grumpy....especially if I was tired and dealing with dickheads. I must sample their coffee sometime because normally when I pull in here, I am rushing somewhere else.

We usually go to BP to fill our car just so we can have a Wild Bean coffee afterwards, our favourite being Newmarket BP's coffee! We ordered a flat white and cappuccino, however we did wait a while for it. And despite the good amount of fluff on the top and it being hot, they were very weak coffees. Will definitely re-visit this BP again as the staff were super nice and it is in a vey convenient location, but I just hope their coffee improves!
