Sometimes I'll duck in for a sandwich to take to work. I have been happy with all their food so far. The staff seem friendly and polite. They have been very helpful. Once the hot bar attendant made me fresh empanadas and I was very impressed. Great service. This store has all the typical convenience store fare. Lots of drinks, chips, candy and gum. There is also a Burger King and a Sbarros Pizza inside the store. This place is big inside and there is plenty of room. During the summer, they have an air gusher that blows cold air when the front doors open. Such a nice little treat for customers on a hot day. They also have a Savings Card where you can get your gas and earn rewards. There is plenty of space to park and access is not a problem. The store is clean and orderly. All good!

Kwik Shop's newest entrant into their presence in town is by far the largest, a new mega-station…read morethat combines two small dining spots with drive-throughs (Sbarro and Burger King, the latter not yet open). With about six gas slots and it's sparkling new pavement, it's new enough that it still looks like it just opened. And thankfully, unlike the corporation's other fuel options which are famed for their brutally slow pumps, the ones at the new location are just fine and filled the tank without you physically aging while doing so. The interior is clean, modern, and has all the usuals and a bit more that you'd expect at a regular C-Store. Surprisingly decent beer cave option with plenty of choices, coffee, snacks, etc. and a small dining area. The SBarro pizza actually looked worth trying... we'll see. Didn't try that option, but as a rule, pizza has never seemed like the thing to try from a gas station. Your mileage may vary, pun intended. Plenty of staffing inside, and everyone looked on the ball, something you can't say about the corporation's other locations. Will this positive start continue? I'd like to see that. One thing I didn't experience though: the hook for most Kwik Shops in this town is that they work with your Dillon's card so you don't have to take out a second mortgage to fill your gas tank. Why this is the case is a mystery but one I'll explore soon. New entrances from two sides of the street are improved over the previous set-up, not surprising. With drive-throughs for the two small chain restaurants they'll draw some additional folks in. As someone that is very much not a fan of this company due to the deplorable conditions and pump speeds at their other stations, mark me as wait and see what develops, but for now, this is a pretty good start. I'm also not a fan of a company that tears down other businesses to build something new that wasn't really needed in this town, but what was here was a sorry match of stores in a badly dated strip mall--some with questionable reputations (like, why would that dicey massage parlor really be open until 11 p.m.??? yea...)--or empty and shuttered windows. It was far past its prime and won't be missed.

That being said, despite some wear and tear, it's still a very solid gas station, and they've added some modern QT additions to it, like QT kitchen, which makes it little extra nice when you are on the road. This location has seen me through my college days, and honestly still is my go-to when I'm in and around Lawrence and in need of gas. On my most recent visit, I was driving home from a family gathering in Manhattan, and we all treated ourselves to little milkshakes. Honestly they are really decent little treats for a gas station. In addition to that, the restrooms are clean, and it's a decent little stop.

I was wedded to the Dillons system because I liked their fuel savers program. But I started shopping more and more at HyVee. It just made sense to start getting my gas there, too. The HyVee Fuel Savers program is not as good overall as the one at Dillons, though. HyVee gives you rewards on only certain items you buy. Dillons gives rewards on how much money you spend at the store. Don't get me wrong- there have been some great savings at HyVee. The difference in the programs is slight. The cashiers and staff are very friendly and the store is all sparkly clean. They also have convenience store pizza!! It's a favorite. Great pizza, price-is-right gas, and great customer service.

A quick stop into Presto (Circle K) cures my lunch ills. I can grab a quick burger or burrito for lunch. They also have chips and my favorite- popcorn. They have nuts and other healthier options. I like that they have lower price options, too. They have a wide selection of drinks, as well. I don't often buy beverages here but I have eyed their selection. The thing I like about Presto is that it is easy access. Parking is easy and it's not out of the way. Also, the clerks are very nice and friendly. They always speak to you even when they are busy. They are friendly without being overly into-your-business. Prices are reasonable, access is easy and staff is friendly. For a convenience store- this place is pretty good.
