Bob Kaufmann kept a beloved 99 Mercedes going far beyond expectations and found used parts to make it more economical to keep running. Same for a 20-year-old Miata. A few weeks ago, our son visited us for two weeks from Virginia. He drove here in a 2014 Acura MDX which had a throttle surging problem where the RPMs would bounce up and down especially on hills. Three different repair places were unable to fix it. Knowing a lot about cars, I diagnosed it as a throttle body gumming, clogged fuel injectors, a vacuum leak, or faulty spark plug wiring. WRONG. Bob asked our son two simple questions and said that Hondas likely show this when they need the transmission fluid changed. He did this and also cleaned some clogged valve, and our son reports the car ran flawlessly all the way back to Virginia. Bob is a gentle, soft spoken college graduate (aviation), who has a daughter who is a violinist in New York. He has traveled extensively through Europe and not what you find in your typical mechanic. He only employs one other person, so when you take your car there, the diagnoser-in-chief will be the one fixing your car.
