It had been two years to the month since I had new headshot photos taken, and one year to the month since I had updated my headshots with headshots from the previous year. I was looking for something serious and edgier and not so much looking like the affable Dad. I googled LA Headshot Photographers and looked at easily 20-30 websites over a week. I was getting frustrated because none of the headshots that I saw stood out enough to the idea that I was looking for. I made a post on Instagram in regards to my frustration and an actor friend sent me a message with Brads Website. I remember looking at the site and within minutes I knew I found the right photographer. In fact I showed several sites including Brads to some co workers and 100% of them chose Brad Buckman as the photographer I should use for new headshots. I sent an inquiry, checked availability and chose the one available time that was free one week later. I went into the situation with no expectations but hoping for the best. Within a few hours I received an email from the studio manager confirming my appointment and gave me a clear outline of wardrobe and expectations when I arrived for my photo shot. Additionally I received a Thank You email from Brad selecting him as the photographer, wishing me a good weekend and thoughts to reach out if I had any questions regarding the photo shoot prior to my arrival the following week. Any nerves I had at this point were squashed. I sent the link of the website to my agency so they knew who my choice was for new photos and I received a huge thumb up. Upon my photo shoot arrival I was met by the studio Manager, Kat who set me up with the dressing room and rolling rack. She actually assisted in opening wardrobe bags and hanging items for me. As I unpacked some makeup (I chose to do simple make up however there are makeup artist options) I explained my thoughts on wardrobe. Brad came over and I met him and we hit it off instantly. While I was getting myself situated Kat and Brad went over my wardrobe and told me their suggestion of the different looks which I was in full compliance. I was in their hands. Throughout the shoot (three looks) Brad and I spoke of traveling internationally, his kids, my work, acting etc. It was the most comfortable time. It made the situation flow and it is why I believe I was able to get the shots I wanted. Kat checked on me during each outfit in regard to music to play. She even took my Slate Shots in each wardrobe change on my iPhone for my personal use on casting websites. I was at the studio for nearly four hours. To be honest it went by so quick. It was everything I had hoped it would be and the results exceeded my expectations. I cannot recommend Brad Buckman enough. His demeanor throughout the session is why the shots turn out the way they do. The experience is friendly, professional, comfortable and relaxed. Brad is rad! I've shot with a handful of photographers and never had great results until my shoot with Brad. He was referred by a few actors I know . Their headshots looked great and they also raved about him being a cool guy. Brad knows his stuff technically but he also made me feel completely comfortable and confident, and I had FUN shooting with him! I know, FUN shooting headshots, right??! If you are a professional and you want to look like one, hire Brad because he's a total pro. Jessica, who runs his studio, was wonderful at handling the logistics and addressing all of my concerns so that there were no unanswered questions going in. I shot with Brad a couple weeks ago and am still reeling at how incredible it was. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed outside by his lovely assistant. I had just barely sat down when Brad was behind me smiles and all. I used a stylist for my shoot and was thrilled with her expertise and ability to accentuate who I am. I was afraid of feeling to "made up" and not feeling like myself, but instead she helped me to feel more confident. Both Brad and the stylist helped me to choose my outfits and then we were ready to go. The shoot was about 3 hours long, with an hour for each outfit. Brad gave me helpful direction and was very quick with his setup. Everyone at the studio was unbelievably kind and professional. They affected my entire day in a positive light. I will definitely be going back again next year! I went through my shots online and am overjoyed with how they turned out. Even better than I expected (and I had high hopes!). Two words: DONT GO!! Chose Brad, because his work online looked great. So I decided, "Hey, headshots are an investment, I'll spend the 700 dollars because he's a NAME, and they'll be amazing." -- I couldnt have been MORE WRONG. Before the shoot (literally 10 min before we started) He asked me A) If I had any angles, etc I didnt want to be shot at... I said YES! Please dont shoot me from 3/4, its not flattering on me. LOW AND BEHOLD I get my pictures back and over 70% were shot from 3/4! B) As I was laying out my outfits ( I chose 3 looks) I made it painstakingly clear which outfits were number 1, 2 and 3 in importance. I asked, if there was a couple minutes extra, would he mind snapping a few in a fun shirt i also brought.... He said "Sure, in fact lets start with that." I thought cool, it will get me loosened/warmed up. He said we didnt need to shoot in order of importance of outfit, it was about "lighting." - I trusted the man whom I thought was worth $700, and went along. Until He says "Alright, and were done!" EXCUSE ME? I said!?!?! I didnt even get to get a single picture in the MOST IMPORTANT LOOK!!!! Which he saved until the end!! He then asked me, we'll do you want to add another look? It's only another 150 dollars (or something close) NO!!! IM NOT PAYING FOR YOUR INCOMPETENCE. FINALLY: I get the pictures back, and when I tell you NOT OOOOONE PICTURE out of the 300-400 pictures he sent me was usuable, Im not lying. Just to make sure I wasnt crazy, I showed them to friends, parents, managers, agents, teachers --- Everyone agreed that A) The person didnt even look like me, B) "I dont mean to be mean, but you are much more attractive in real life" and C) Why does your face look SWOLLEN?! People, I realize he is a big name in Headshot-dom but he is one of those photographers who probably amazing before he got a name, and now all he cares about is the $$$ Its obvious in the POOR QUALITY of the product and his INDIFFERENCE to the client's happiness. read more

I'm surprised more actors haven't taken the time to write a review for Brad! He's exceptional to work with and my shots came out great! No pretentious attitude or curve balls in the process to throw me off my mission for excellent shots. My agent said they're hands down the best pics I've produced! Upon meeting Brad, we had a thorough conversation about what exactly I needed from him. I gave him all of the notes my agent requested as well as my own thoughts, and he listened and gave me exactly what I had asked for. I know that seems like a simple concept, but I've been around the headshot block quite a few times, shooting with many of the top rated photographers, and oftentimes I'd end up pictures that were just....blah. Whether it be improper lighting, poor focus, weird poses, poor background choices for my hair color, ignoring my requests, rushing a look, disinterest in the session as a whole, weird vibes, unprofessional studio space, pretentious chatter, etc. - Brad was a breath of fresh air! He works out of an awesome studio space in Hollywood and has excellent lighting equipment and technique. Plenty of backgrounds and space to play with. He's what I had been expecting in terms of professionalism and quality in a photographer. Never (until Brad) have I left knowing full well that the session had surpassed my expectations. I am a working actor in Los Angeles and I was referred to Brad by a close friend and very successful actress. We had done a pilot together a couple of years earlier and she called me to tell me how much she had been working lately. Of course I asked her what her secret was and she told me it could be summed up in two words: "BRAD BUCKMAN"! The photos she took with Brad had moved her from the ranks of "working actress" to actually being an actress in demand. She has been around for a while and I trust her implicitly, so I called Brad's office and spoke with Jessica. I was happily surprised by Jessica's care and compassion, and impressed that she offered me an opportunity to meet with Brad personally, just so we could feel each other out. A few days later I met with Brad in his spacious, professional studio, and we just sat down and talked. We spent nearly an hour together, just getting to know one another and my vision of what I needed out of my new head shots. I left that meeting feeling that Brad "got me", and truly understood what my representation and I needed. I was eager to get started. One week later I arrived excited to embark on the next phase of my career. Unlike some of the people that gave unflattering reviews here, as a veteran performer, I am used to leaving my ego at the door and letting the experts direct me. As a professional, I don't question the director or cinematographer on set, and I was sure as hell was not going to question the judgment of a professional of Brad's status. I trust the process and I trust the artist. It's my job as an artist to put myself in a position where other artists can do their best work. I brought several outfits and trusted Brad to pick what would work best. He encouraged me to bring my own music so that I could set the mood, and I left the rest to him. THE RESULTS WERE OUTSTANDING! No disrespect to the many photographers that have shot me in the past, but these head shots were the best I had ever taken, and far more than I could have possibly hoped for! My only complaint, if you could call it a complaint, is that I had an embarrassment of riches in Brad's photos. Of the nearly 600 shots he took, so far it has been a struggle to get down to my top 150 photos! I can't imagine how I'm going to be able to get down to my best 3 or 4 pictures. Maybe 3 or 4 dozen! In closing, I cannot imagine how anyone could have had less than a stellar experience with Brad. He was a cool guy and a hot photographer. But, then again I worked on a film last year that one actor constantly complained about the director. I loved the director (as did nearly the entire cast), and he directed Christopher Plummer to an Oscar in the same movie. Brad is truly the best headshot photographer I've ever used! The shoot is so relaxed and comfortable. He takes time to communicate with you before the shoot so he knows exactly what types of roles you're going for. He knew exactly how to capture the right look for each character type we discussed. I needed a little guidance since it had been so long since I had done headshots. He made everything so easy and enjoyable!
